Indeed, a very weird border. However, the border between Belgium and the Netherlands in Baarle-Hertog and Baarle-Nassau is ever weirder. An enclave in an enclave of an enclave, a border running right through the front door of a house, a city hall smack on the border and used by the authorities of both countries, order your food in one country and pay for it in another country, ...

That was my thought too. There are several parcels of land from each country within the other.

We have an odd border between Denmark and Germany too, where the border runs in the middle of the street in a small village.

I would have mentioned this too. It was part of an area vote after the War, and the population on the one side had a different opinion than the other side of the street - so the actual Border Control is at the end!

In the Saarland, we also have a border of that kind between Germany and France. Additionally, the fence of the central graveyard of the capital Saarbrücken is directly at the French border.

@@Bioshyn As a former Long Distance Walker I have passed the border from Belgium to NL with two Belgian nose-drops inside, Baarle Nassau and Baarle Hertog (I think to remember?)! And I do believe that even houses inside those have different nationality, to make it even more complicated? Finn. Denmark

Apart from Baarle, Nahwa in the UAE deserves a mention. It is a village in the UAE, which is surrounded by an exclave of Oman situated within the UAE. Anyone who travels through this territory in a straight line will have to cross a few borders and checkpoints.

As a former Long Distance walker in this part of Belgium, we never quite knew in which country we was walking, as also NL has a narrow part going down, with the town of Maastricht, and we took a dip into Germany also to Aachen.

I studied in Aachen back then. We regularly went inline skating on the Vennbahn. Really nice surface on most of the track.

    Farm
    Small town: Population of 5,000 - 20,000
    Medium-sized town: population of 20,000 - 100,000

""The rental price for a Railbike is €40.00 for one ride.
For groups of at least 8 Railbikes, a discount of €5.00 is granted.""
At the one end there's 30min time to strech and/or buy snacks. They turn the bikes around and getting back is quite a lot downhill...

I live in southern Germany, close to the Swiss border. We have Swiss trains, we drive on Swiss roads, no deal, thanks to the Schengen Agreement. Büsingen is 100% surrounded by Switzerland. You can only get to Kleinwalsertal Austria via Germany.

    This is still clear.
Take a look at a report from the city of Baarle.
This city belongs to Belgium, no, Netherlands, or Belgium, with one foot in Netherlands?
There are houses there that have changed the front door to live in another country

The correct name for the railbike is a drasine. There are numerous disused railways all over France, Belgium, Holland and Germany where drasines can be hired.

We don't call it a "village". You do. "Village" is an english word, not a german. We call it "Stadt", "Städtchen" or "Kleinstadt". So I donÄ't know if you could call it a "village".

The craziest border is between the USA and Canada. In the town of Derby Line, half of the library belongs to Canada and the other half to the USA. 😄

Sooo ... isn't it time to re-negotiate with Belgium?

    • @flitsertheo
      @flitsertheo Місяць тому

NO. First, the Fennbahn is only a small part of an agreement which if renegotiated Germany could claim half of Poland next. See the map in the video. We, or rather they, are not going there anymore.
Second, the weird border brings tourists and UA-camrs, a bonus for local businesses.

With more than 20 Belgian enclaves in Dutch territory, and a few Dutch enclaves in some of those Belgian enclaves, it's a lot weirder than the one presented in that video, IMO.
