"Thou Must Live, De, and Know" is one of the greatest cutscenes in all of gaming, and I don't know anyone who wasn't deeply affected by it. I've seen it probably 40 times now, at the very least, and it STILL gets me to damn near tears and a runny nose 3 years later.

The emotions hit so hard with this one. Welcome to the latter part of endwalker, this train has no stops.
The emotional damage never gets old :D
Hydaely/Venat waited for you and the right timeline for 12,000 years, and during that time she only had your stories of the future to guide and comfort her. She probably knew about Minfilia, Ardbert, The First and everything up to you travelling to the past to meet her, but changing anything would mean that the timeline would be different so all she could do was watch and hope that events would merge as she was told.
So yes, when she says "I birth a world of suffering, to mire and plague", she really understood that even though she chose what may be the lesser of two evils, it was still evil, but necessary for humanity to continue.
I've seen people argue that she had other choices, but I would argue that she probably exhausted all those options as it's established that she's a consummate researcher, and she understood that it was going to be an uphill struggle to convince a people who'd never known suffering of any kind about a threat to their existence that was created using a form of energy that all but a few of them have heard about (and even those few don't really understand that energy).
Also, the "Hear, Feel, Think". She was telling you about the threat and how to prepare for it from the beginning. "I wish to HEAR your words. Share your FEELings, and know your THOUGHTS"
Couple fun facts about Venat's walk:
Each of those blows that happened to her are meant to represent one of the Rejoinings. Each Rejoining did insurmountable damage to Venat, but she kept walking.
I forget where I heard it, the black sludge was originally supposed to be blood. But the various ratings organizations would of upgrades XIV to a mature/adult rating, so they changed it. Personally, I think its better the way it ended up.
I don't know anyone who wasn't an absolute mess after that cutscene. You are certainly not alone.
Heck, I've seen it about a dozen times, and I'm still a mess every time.
You deserve all the praise in the world for being that emotionally vulnerable on camera.

What's especially painful about the cuts back to Shadowbringers for me is that, upon learning what Hydaelyn and Zodiark truly are, some of us felt we had good reason to doubt her.
_Yet even then, in spite of our mistrust towards her, she still looked out for us._

3:09:37 You were asking where he's going, but if you listen to Venat's dialogue, it's clear Hythlodaeus just volunteered himself to join the sacrifice to summon Zodiark.
He was saying goodbye to Emet. Ever the selfless friend, he gladly sacrificed himself to stop the final days with a smile. 😔
Near breaking point before the cut scene, I knew it was going to be rough!

Oof yeah I don’t know a single person who didn’t did kicked in the heart after that cutscene. Can’t hear Answers without tearing up anymore so thanks for that Ishikawa!

The fact that Hythlodaeus says goodbye to Emet and sacrifices himself as part of the group that summons Zodiark is bad enough, but add on the fact that as soon as he dies, he recovers the memories of what happened in Elpis, but is powerless to tell Emet. ㅠㅠ
ADD ON, all of Shadowbringers Emet is presumably nice to us because he SEES the color of our soul and MUST KNOW that we are a shard of Azem, his friend, and only once we kill him does he remember us from Elpis, I like to think that is why he smiled at the end of Shadowbringers.

Hythlo says on the moon that we’ve never met. The souls sacrificed to Zodiark never got to reach the Aetherial Sea. Hythlo isn’t cleansed until we free him from Zodiark.
Emet remembering us does account for him helping us against Elidibus though! He was helping to close the loop!

Watching that cutscenes makes me cry all the time too endwalker just the best expansion over all

She just had to take the long road like Madame de Pompadour.
i had an easier time processing the graha->exarch->graha memory/personality shift cause i treated it as a regeneration
graha later will have a speech that could pretty much the doctor's speech
We all needed several minutes or hours or days or weeks or months or years to process that cutscene.
Also: Hermes is hot because they gave him a avian features and a prominent Adam's apple. He looks very unique!

I like to think we saw a recreation of the real moment when Venat completed the ritual that summoned Hydealyn into herself. That, with all preparations made and certain knowledge of the future, she still couldn't help herself but to try to reason with her people. Because she didn't want to do the horrible thing she had to do (".. that Light split the world, and every life upon it!!" Hades roared). And that's the regret and sorrow we see when she fails... and then we see her become, we see her take on the mantle of Hydealyn and go on to the battle with Zodiark that would sunder creation.
But it still doesn't hit as hard as the depiction of her walk through history. Each calamity brutalizing her, diminishing her, but nonetheless knowing that all was for nothing if she can't endure and go on to catch up with.. you, her Champion.
It's pretty amazing that even though nobody asked for it, this game just went ahead and coughed up a passably good attempt and defining the meaning of life.

i find it woefully unrealistic that the WoL didnt break down sobbing after that cutscene, like cmon babes, feel something
Nah we the players get to cry for both us and WoL
I believe the WoL doesn't feel anything in that scene but a large gaping emptieness
