As much as I love Portal 2's aesthetic, there's just something really special and unique about Portal's original look. It's so creepy and lifeless, yet it works and made the first game feel so much more isolating. I wish Valve would return to it in some capacity, because the dead-eyed look the cores have makes it feel so alien and deaf. This mod, while rough, gives Portal 2 the general eeriness it was missing. I know right!! I really wish they kept the eerie atmosphere of Portal 1. It doesn't really make sense that all of the goofiness of Aperture happened in the same universe as HL. The comedy in Portal 1 worked because it was just Glados being crazy, not trying to be funny.

Apparently not everyone knows this but portal 2 is also a visual reboot. So while two things might look different, they are the same thing. The glados at the beginning of portal 2 has more similarities to portal 1 glados than the later portal 2 glados does. This probably means that the glados at the beginning of the game is just the revamped model of portal 1 glados. Same thing with the cores and the cubes and the elevators. They all look different but are meant to be the same thing
Geez. There are some things from Portal 1 that I miss in Portal 2 (this ominous orange glow and most of audio design), but models of personality cores are definitely not one of these things.
