Aperture scientists were ahead of their time, that thing is impressively good at redirecting any physical force directed at it. Dunno why they decided to encase Cave's head in stone.

I realized it said soon as he said it, but I also tried getting his attention by ringing the desk bell a bunch.
At the end, I REALLY love the flawless cut of Johnson going "Hey hey HEY! I can't talk over the sound of you shooting me!" Then he recounts what he spoke about, and flawlessly continues...
this system was actually developed and put in place for half life 2 lost coast, glad to see they made more use of it here once again.
i remember hearing that that type of code was being developed by valve while developing hl2 but it had come out too soon and they couldn't implement it, but they could add it into hl: lost coast, when you shoot a seagull the fisherman will berate you for killing it, then go back to what he was saying.

I love how we as the player keep failing at everything, even failing at killing Cave. Also the praying mantis society was hilarious and awesome and now I wanna know what that glowy green thing is
The praying mantis worship Cave Johnson and foresaw his death by toilet in the prophecies so they built that back up power source that is the thing of glowing green.

more like the Writers, Musicians, Programmers and Artists are allowed to do whatever, and if it doesn't result in a product, that's fine, they can just move on to the next thing.
It's why they "don't make games anymore;" they do but there doesn't seem to be much pressure to actually put a product out. Add in the fact that valve never releases things unless it's "finished" (if you don't believe me consider the fact that they have a habit of throwing things out and starting over- HL, HL2, Portal 2, TF2) and you can see why they don't really release much to the public these days.

So the Turrets basically started out as a defective model of a Aperture Science toilet seat, accidentally filled it with Bullets by a loose pipe filled with ammunition.
The funniest part is that they still load the bullets the same way: just dumping them inside the body
PLUS, WE FIRE THE HOLE BULLET. THAT'S 65% MORE BULLET PER BULLET
Actually, I hate to bring up Portal stories :Mel, but technically they already had Turrets before in the timeline, since Portal stories Mel was during the beginning of aperture innovators, and is canon I believe

I can't believe a simple showcase of the Steam Deck's controls let us in on what happened with Cave _(not to mention, he's probably in a cave now)_ Johnson. It might not be Portal 3, but DAMN is it the closest it's ever felt in years. I hope we get more from the Portal series, but knowing Valve, yeah.

It’s nice seeing actual people, albeit mainly silhouettes of people, in the Aperture facility. I love the being alone in a abandoned salt mine with nothing but AIs feel of the other two portal games but this, with warmer lighting too, is a welcoming change :)

Absolutely nuts how we finally found out what happened to Cave Johnson in what is basically a tech demo for the Steam Deck
Well...if it worked for Steam and VR....
This can be actually semi canon. You see somewhere in development of portal 2 there was a concept that Cave Jonson’s mind was placed into a cube and was left in the lowest point in salt mines plugged in and we killed him.
It's also (kind of) a tech demo of Source 2. I know we already got that in Alyx, but this one is the complete package in everything. Lighting, physics in small details, water etc.
Well ya know Valve doesn’t care about canon so you can believe whatever you want honestly

its actually pretty impressive that valve chose to bring back j.k. simmons to play cave johnson again in a 30 minute long tech demo for their steam deck. gotta love their respect for the franchise still going strong

So, Cave Jhonson actually didn't die, he was just abandoned after killing his engineers when he got mad while his mind was transported to a supercomputer, just like Caroline and GlaDOS... except, he acutally KEEP his own mind and... was left behind, abandoned, suffering alone.
And now, according to this game events, his mind is still trapped in the supercomputer (now powered up infinetly by a probably fusion core made by a praying mantis civilization) and has connected it to the "toilet turrets" and sings with them... for eternity, in some cave in some place down underground the old Aperture facilities. (Maybe he is the reason why the turrets sing in the first place??? thought in Portal normal turrets sings and talks in feminine voices, while this old turrets sing in manly deep voices. Maybe it's just a Caroline and Jhonson thing... to sing opera songs and has transmitted to the turrets in their control... that would actually be really wholesome)

i really hope the reception of this small demo can prove that portal is worth continuing, they have the talent and a fanbase who loves what they do, this honestly feels like a proof of concept for a portal 3 game with the main villain being cave johnson: the founder of portal

I assume desk job takes place in a universe where cave survives but loses his body and mind to science.
The main continuity has signs that cave almost survived (the abandoned chassis in the multiplayer ending) but he most certainly didn’t. Otherwise you’re right on the money.

grady may have lied and pinned all the blame on us for completely fucking destroying a massive underground warehouse that may have been one of the largest on earth, but actually going through real training just to be our parole officer was really cool of him.

seeing how well the game is designed then seeing all those people in the credits and knowing this game is free regardless of if you bought their device or not is why valve will always be #1 for me.
meanwhile companies like activison release the same game year after year using recycled assets and over priced microtransaction in a game that's broken at launch and filled with hackers yet still wanna charge full price years after the games launch.
Yeah man, some companies release the same games every year and others release no games or they release tech demos that either require you to buy a VR headset or are a nothing with no real reason to justify their existence. Valve is such a great company.

The number of Easter Eggs in the intro is incredible and one that I instantly noticed was the giant chicken which comes from an old portal 2 prototype where I was planning a level where due to Aperture's experimentation with chickens, we would have to fight a giant chicken as the boss of that level
also the part where cave asks us to kill himself, it was an ending in f-stop
Another less subtle Easter Egg is the crates from Half-Life 2 at 0:43 being filled haphazardly, so in typical Aperture fashion.
The mantis army probably was the best easter egg. "You'll know when the test starts"

Coolest thing for me that for the first time we can actually see PEOPLE. Not robots possessing minds or cyborgs. Actual Aperture workers. I wonder if we can use no clip to get a more detailed view on their models

I didn't realize this was an official Valve game until the credits rolled! That makes sense, the quality was really high and I thought it was absurdly impressive for a Portal 2 mod. I love the "new" lore this adds to the universe.
Cave being alive makes me so excited for the future of the Portal Universe of games. If there is a Portal 3 in development, I really hope that Cave could become a more prominent character.

Only persons who knew it was Grady, protagonist, Cave himself (who is in the cave) and several scientists (I think they are either dead or just too scared to tell anything about Aperture)

OMG! I just realized the ending was foreshadowed by Aperture's previous tech demo, the VR Hand Lab! At the end of that game, at the bottom of the bottomless pit, you can see Cave's giant metal head!
makes you wonder how much of the half life and portal lore is/was already written but they refuse to release it to public. MOST of the "late released" Tf2 weapons were already planned at release date.
