In another dimension there would have been places of worship for Mark and Dire Straits members. They all like to stay underrated for some unexplainable reason.
We are in 2024. A Brazilian man, far way from his home, seating alone in an Irish pub, in a raining day. Alone. Just him and his pint of Guinness in a lost pub in Dublin cold city. This song starts to play in the pub. A 5o and something years old man alone in a pub find rejoice and starts to remember the first time he heard that song. He was what, 20 and something years old? It doesn't matter: that song brought him back so many good memories from a very long time ago. God, what a wonderful experience. How good was the feeling to remember the past, the friends, the memories from a very long time ago. Thank you for sharing this beautiful music. Thank you for bringing me back so many good experiences and memories. Happy Easter!

If you ever had someone you keep searching for in every face, in every crowd, in every place. Someone you'd wait forever to see again. I know I do. And maybe on the other side I will. This song continues to mean more to me than I will ever be able to put into words.
My first wife and I used to play this (on cassette) on our various trips out to the desert and river trips, in our lumbering '79 Scout Traveler. She loved this album. She passed away in 2004, and this song gets me every time I hear it. It's been awhile, and I sold the Scout years ago, but I still look for her face. Never shows, but I keep looking.
David Kirby My condolences; first on the passing of your soulmate. Second on parting ways with the old International. At least you still have the song. I had a '69 1400.
In 1992 I went to a music store and bought 5 cassette albums. Michael Jackson's Dangerous. Dire Straits On Every Street. Donna Summer's Mistaken Identity and Enigma's debut album. Think what a beautiful time it was.

Nothing else to listen to when you’re alone in the car. (This and anything country) ...And then your family ride with you and they’re like “not this again” but then they all start to hum the lead guitar at some point and your faith is restored 😀
Incredible how he layers the walk out & brings this quiet song Home with utter THUNDER....... Totally impossible to remain still as Mark/Dire Straits walk this Home.
That “walk Home” ... is utterly amazing... starts quiet then..... builds to such a pounding finish... your heart starts racing in time with the music as MK is “Going Home.” (Pun intended). Indeed, a great accompanying video capturing the sense “On Every Street.”

The outro is as close to perfect as there is. The basic, yet powerful, beat of the drums, the simple melody Mark plays throughout, the subtle piano and bass but the part that does it for me is the haunting tones of the pedal steel guitar. Absolutely brilliant. I get goosebumps every time I listen to it. I could listen to an infinity loop from 2:51 on.
I looked for this song for 7 years. I heard it in the car when I was young, 6 or 7, and it was always my favourite. I finally found it and I'm so happy
I never really knew my real Dad he disappeared out of my life when I was very young. My Mum had a boyfriend when I was growing up for around 10 years of my life. It never worked out between them. He was nice to me and learned me a lot...It’s his face that I still look for on every street. Hope you are well Paul!
That comment has just obliterated my heart! I raised my ex partners little girl from 18 month old for 4 years and loved her like she was my own, I never see her now and I'd love to think she had the same outlook as you when shes older.
Jeff Porcaro on the drums, MK on the guitar, DS in play...this is a piece of art! One of the most darkly romantic songs I've heard. The words are bound to take you on a 'rewind tour of life' making you remember everyone whom you loved and who aren't there with you anymore...
Lot of comments about the second half of the song and the guitar work. Let's also take a minute to appreciate the first half and Mark's often overlooked talent as a story telling lyricist. This is one of his most haunting and beautiful lyrics.
2:50 onwards the magic moment when a band, without talking, without looking, feels eachother with some undescribable connection to make this absolute magic. it's amazing when everything fits and comes together. this is what i still miss about Mark Knopfler today; the dire straits. Knopfler alone is great. But with the Dire straits, it was legendary. I do miss that.
The first time I listened to this song, the chord change and his voice on “your injured looks” made me cry instantly. To me this song gets in touch with a longing. In my case there wasn’t a particular face i was looking for on every street… but yet I feel familiar with looking for that face everywhere, that one person I still haven’t found.

Will, the one and only Jeff Porcaro on drums is driving this sucker home at that point. Such little subtle cymbals up until that point too. So beautiful. RIP Jeff, what a groove.
This song reminds me eternally of a certain girl who once approached me at a baker several years ago quite soon in the morning. She spoke to me in a very kind way. She asked what kind of perfume I wore. I was looking at the offered food, lost in thoughts, still tired, reacted dumb, answered "Just usual shower gel". I did not pay attention, didn't even care to turn my damn head to look at her as it is considered polite when you are talked to. I barely noticed her appearance but, boy, it was so calming and her voice was pleasant. Most likely I wouldn't even recognise her if I saw her again. When I realised what was going on, she had left. I never saw her again and today I still blame myself for being so stupid. Of course I would want to get to know her, but I would give a lot just to let her know I apologise for my rejecting behaviour as maybe she took all her courage to talk to a stranger like me.

That outro!! It just doesn't get much better than that. I love this man's soul. He gives it to us with each and every song he's written/performed. His music has become such a very dear friend of mine and I could never thank him enough for that beautiful relationship.
This song is a gorgeous masterpiece (one of many for Dire Straits imo)--Knopfler's haunting gituar melody and beautiful lines like "the moon is turned upside down" to denote the chaotic, overwhelmed feeling of painfully loosing love, and "every victory has a taste that's bittersweet" which, of course, is deeply true about adult human experience--nothing is either good or bad, just happy or sad, but tinged with its opposite emotion from the memories of having experienced the other side of what your feeling now--Dire Straits is no longer, but hope that Knopfler continues to share his genius with us
The last two minutes are the searching of the girl the movvements across the streets, on every streets....simply genious. Magic. Music speaking telling the story
I have no idea how this ever worked out but years after this album came out(i missed it somehow), i purchased a cassette of it for my car(an old car) and for a song which talks about streets, this song sounded utterly amazing whilst i was winding through forested roads down in beautiful Somerset, England...not far from Cheddar Gorge if my memory serves me well. TAKE THIS SONG AND THAT TRIP ON A BEAUTIFUL SUNNY SUMMER'S DAY IN SOMERSET, ENGLAND......and i swear it will change your life. It bloody well changed mine. I became a songwriter that day...and still am. Now i'm changing other folk's lives. What an honour. Kindest regards, Sonic Foxx.
Saw him solo in Pittsburgh years back and never checked the 'set list'. The place respectfully erupted at the sound of, " There's gotta be a record of you someplace". Made a great show even more memorable.
this song brings tears to my eyes everytime, thank you lord that I was born just late enough in human history to enjoy such a superb composition ❤ mark knopfler, you re a genius
For some strange reason Mark Knopfler is not included when people talk about the great musicans of the last 50 or 60 years. In my humble opinion the guy is right up there with the very best.
Господи, это божественная песня... Слушаю её лет 30... И ищу её лицо на каждой улице, хотя моя любовь всегда рядом! Дай бог ей здоровья и быть со мной! Алла хак бар!
Brilliant, moving song. The older I get, the more it’s about looking for my children who have left home, and my dad who just passed away. It hits me like a punch in the stomach, but gives me great joy at the same time. What a divine gift this is.
Yesterday, I learned that my mum have terrible illness while listening to this song. Today, I'm crying all day and put this song over and over again. Be strong, Mum!
Wonderful rock ballad. Mark Knopfler shows once again his qualities of immense songwriter. Poetic lyrics and rafined melody. The sweet guitars and the melodious sax create a dreamy atmosphere until it flows in a epic and awesome outro. Mark you are a legend of the music and I'm grateful for the emotions that you give me during my life.
Probably I'm wrong with that, as I was born on 1994, but as long as I listen to this song and watch this video I feel like I miss those days that I never lived or at least I lived with no consciousness of it. Sometimes I wished I was born earlier just to be young or adult enough to be able to see a live concert by people such as Dire Straits, Queen or Michael Jackson.
I will donate once I can to St. Jude. I believe in unconditional love and the capacity for giving to everyone who needs the very simple idea of being seen.

Yes, I agree. It's a beautiful one.
Adoro questa band da sempre, non so spiegare, ma i loro suoni arrivano a toccare le mie corde e mi accompagnano in modo perfetto.
Mark knofler reali produced some classic songs never got bored with them
❤
One of the best songs from dire straits
Yes my friend x
Agreed sir 👍❤👍
Both words and music and the change of pace are absolutely brilliant
He's made many classics. I think this is in his top-3, which is a huge compliment. Amazing song.
Kindest regards,
Sonic Foxx.
P.S. PLAY THE SONG AS LOUD AS POSSIBLE WITH YOUR WINDOWS DOWN AND THE WIND RUSHING OVER YOUR HEAD FOR BEST EFFECT.
GOOD LUCK.
❤🥀🎸 so intense beautiful !
Saw him solo in Pittsburgh years back and never checked the 'set list'. The place respectfully erupted at the sound of, " There's gotta be a record of you someplace". Made a great show even more memorable.
Mark knopfler: the legend ❤
Still one of my best Dire Straits songs..Mark Knopfler is a Genius !!!
this song brings tears to my eyes everytime, thank you lord that I was born just late enough in human history to enjoy such a superb composition ❤ mark knopfler, you re a genius
We need to slow down our lives.
was there ever a more inspired artist than Mark Knopfler? He says it all, he has it all, and he is ever so humble and calm
The sun,the fog,the lights and the night, people on the move. Words like a poem, heavenly guitar. Mark, you are a gift for the human race!🎧🎵🎻🔝
This song moves me deeply... I can't explain it, but it... shakes the structure of my emotions... it's beautiful...
Same ❤
The best dire straits song ever, and the best guitarist ever, mark knopfler ,take a bow.
Whole body gave goosebumps on that outro.... nearly about a minute....
For some strange reason Mark Knopfler is not included when people talk about the great musicans of the last 50 or 60 years.
In my humble opinion the guy is right up there with the very best.
Beautiful video adaptation of a timeless classic.
best song dire straits ever made imo
O tak Best song - Poland👍
Brothers in Arms
Best DS track changes for me every time.. depends on what mood I’m in. So many great songs and MK is still churning out great masterpieces today
Here's a guy who found his way to be of the most usefulness for the rest of mankind- and enjoying it thoroughly. Lucky guy
One of those songs that should be much better known, one of those eternal and magic songs
Господи, это божественная песня... Слушаю её лет 30...
И ищу её лицо на каждой улице, хотя моя любовь всегда рядом! Дай бог ей здоровья и быть со мной! Алла хак бар!
Guys.
That orgasmic drum beat that comes in at the end
That's the genius of Jeffrey Thomas Porcaro right there
And Paul Franklin pedal steel guitar.
Brilliant, moving song. The older I get, the more it’s about looking for my children who have left home, and my dad who just passed away. It hits me like a punch in the stomach, but gives me great joy at the same time. What a divine gift this is.
This song goes right through my soul!!!
Same ❤
One of my favorite DS songs. Jeff Porcaro playing the drums and that chord progression are insane.
Dire Straits have so many songs that are simply timeless and a treat for the ears. This is on the list. Class.
Just heard this for the first time. What an incredible song. One of his very best. The outro chord sequence is sublime.
This song is so beautiful it hurts.
Yesterday, I learned that my mum have terrible illness while listening to this song. Today, I'm crying all day and put this song over and over again. Be strong, Mum!
One of my all time favourite tracks.
One of the greatest guitar players in the world. The band is Iconic
2:50 I remember hearing that the first time as a young Kid..I instantly was blown away..so beautiful
Never heard this song til this video (I was in my 20s when it came out) and I too am blown away
I was a kid too, in Navy High School.
Absolute quality of the highest order!
I will donate once I can to St. Jude. I believe in unconditional love and the capacity for giving to everyone who needs the very simple idea of being seen.
Without a doubt this is one of the best fan videos on the entirety of UA-cam. Well done sir.
Thanks
agree :) my favourite is this one ua-cam.com/video/8Zgde18-gc4/v-deo.html
or this one ua-cam.com/video/lLYD_-A_X5E/v-deo.html
For a see
Fully agree!!
Affirmative.
Jeff Porcaro's drums drive this song...one of my favorite outros ever!
the outro of this song is so famous, that the brilliance of verses probably don't get enough credit... I'd be honored if some Dire Straits fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performance of ON EVERY STREET on my YT channel in tribute to the genius songwriting of Mark Knopfler. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital enhancements. Thanks and RESPECT to the legends.
Yeah great drums totally agree
@David Schilter yes! RIP Jeff Porcaro🕯️
This is the most beautiful song I 've ever heard.
such a hauntingly beautiful and sad song, I wish it was longer... also criminally underrated 💔
