Hi Andrew, the tube on the bottom of the filter is just a drain tube it's only connected to the filter, they often fall off and are found in the engine tray.
Hi there I have my Jaguar xf 2012 2.2 diesel and my issue is this . I press the accelerator all the way down and nothing happened. It accelerates so slow as the car is on safe mode . Any advice?
Hi Arnie, thank you for watching and for your feedback. As you rightly point out you can prime the filter when fitted, I showed it primed off the car for clarity. If you replace the fuel filter without priming, the engine initially should start, run for a few seconds and then stop ( fuel pressure if already in the fuel rail allows this ) then it's a case of turning the engine until it starts. The drain tube fitted underneath the fuel filter will not lose fuel if the plug on top is tight.
@@crystalclearmechanics thanx I was meaning to fit the filter, Then fill it with fuel. I don't see the need to fill and hold finger over tube ? Why not just fit then fill with fuel ?
Hi Arnie, yes you can do that but if you don't hold your finger over the drain ( where the tube fits ) the fuel will come out as soon as you put it in.@@arnietwo11
Hi, thank you for watching and for your feedback. It's good practice to use the manufacturers parts but I have used aftermarket filters supplied by the customers and they have worked without any prolems.

I have a 2014 jaguar xf 2.2 diesel with 105.000 miles and I have a problem with the fuel consumption. On a long journey it is around 7.5l/100km(37mpg) not driving fast. I usually cover 400 miles with a full tank driving mostly outside town. I have no error codes, the car runs normal, I have replaced air filter, oil and oil filter every 6000 miles. Recently, I ran a can of liqui moly diesel purge directly to the feed and return pipes of the fuel system but nothing changed. What else do you think I should do?

@@stefandraganescu1946 Hi Stefan, How do you measure your fuel consumption ie car onboard computer or driving over a tank full or do you fill up the tank drive a certain number of miles say 60 then fill the tank again to see how many litres / gallons used? The intank float / fuel level sensors do have issues and can show false readings. Have you always had the bad fuel consumption, if not when did you notice it and was any work carried out on the car previously?. Have you confirmed there are no fuel leaks? Have you checked for air/vacuum leaks? Your car has covered 105,000 miles, has the cam timing belt been replaced? It is due a change. Let me know on the above then we can go further.
Hi, thank you for your response! Yesterday I filled up with 53.3l(11.7 gal) that lasted 657km(408.2 mi) since the last fill up. I calculated a fuel consumption of 8.1l/100km(34.8 mpg, I hope my conversions are right). 400km were done outside town and the rest in city driving. I don't know if this is right for this car but my girlfriend's 3 series gets 5.6l/100km(50.4 mpg) on the same outside town commute and with 50/50 city/outside driving. I'm not expecting such economy but for me it seems pretty poor for the jag. The fuel consumption is the same since I bought it one year ago. I can't find any evident fuel or vacuum/boost leaks and the timing belt was changed by the previous owner. The car runs fine but holds the revs at 2700-3000 when going uphill at 25-30 mph even that there is not sugh a big incline. Other cars I've driven change gear at much lower rpm. I think it is holding the 2nd gear for too long. Sometimes it does a similar thing when going from a stop, it takes pretty long to change to 3rd, revving the engine to 2500 and holding it there a bit(usually shifts at 2000) even though the accelerator imput is small and I expect it to shift faster and at lower rpm. Also, on the first few miles of the day, when coasting I feel the downshifts like a little brake applied for each gear. Usually I can't feel them. And the last concern is that on a longer trip, alfer a couple of hours, I experienced a loss of power, it was very hard to overtake and to accelerate uphill, the revs were climbing slower than normal but they went to the redline as usual. The car didn't show any warning or check engine light and there was no error code stored. The next day the problem disappeared, it didn't happen again but also I haven't made such a long journey since then.

I am assuming from what you say that it is a fuel issue. I'll explain the fuel system first. Your car is fitted with saddle-bag fuel tanks so called because the tanks fit either side of the prop shaft and are connected above the propshaft, on the drivers side tank ( UK cars ) it is fitted with a recirculating electric pump within a swirl- pot ( see my video Jaguar xf in tank transfer replacement ) that causes a vacuum which then moves fuel across the tanks. The low pressure pump which feeds the high pressure pump is integral to the high pressure pump ( fitted to the back ) this fits on the top and back of your engine. The low pressure pump sucks the fuel from the swirl pot within the tank through the fuel filter to the high pressure pump. There are several causes for low fuel rail pressure but your issue appears ( from your description ) to be tank related and is a common problem usually caused by a bad electrical connection at the tank or a problem with the in-tank pump or swirl pot pipe connections, the fuel float connected to the swirl pot also play up. I would advise to first check your electric plugs at tank and that your in tank pump is working, if that is all good then remove the swirl pot / electric pump as the video shows ( easy job ) and do the obvious checks, pipes connected etc. Check the tank pump is working / not working before you remove it as disturbing it can cause it to start working. The fuel filter could be a possible cause but I can't see that the fuel level in the tank would unblock the filter. Try / check the above and get back to me and we can go from there. Thanks again for watching. Ps, check that you have fuel in the tank as the fuel float can give a false reading.

So found an issue because of your help!!! The connector on the pump in tank is completely burned out, the connector itself and the bit on top of the pump has burned. Is there a way I can send you an image? Not sure if it will be replaceable without replacing the full pump or not
The plug at the bottom of the filter has no electrical connections at all. Just blank slot. Odd. Have same with my xf.

Great but why can I not just prime it once it's fitted. I think I might make a mess, lose fuel when trying to put that tube back on in engine bay ??

I pulled the plug up on my filler and broke off 2 pins that are attached to the pug.
