I've owned my 2001 for 15 years. It's an extra cab long bed 5 speed manual. Rubber seats, rubber floor mats. No frills, manual window cranks. A/C, PS, PB. Bone stock. three lift pump replacements. Never had any leaks. Just under 400,000 miles. Love this truck, could never part with it. My sister has a '97 Cummins SLT Laramie Extra Cab 3500 dually automatic. Nice video, thank you .

Great video. Thanks for sharing. I have a 1997 Ram 2500 extra cab long bed 5.9 12V Cummins diesel automatic. The stock torque converter had a stall speed of 2100 rpm. Acceleration was painfully slow. The stock transmission was prone to failure so I had it rebuilt and beefed up bulletproof with aftermarket forged components. At the same time I had a 1500 stall torque converter installed. Wow! What a difference! I love driving this beast! Unless you're in a football field, forget about making u turns towing a trailer! LOL!

A couple of things that were a surprise to me when I bought my 96 12v 5spd, and they should be mentioned. 1. Oil gauge is delayed and terrible. 2. Volts drop when grids cycle. Oil drip are ok....to a extent

Yep, and pay out the friggin nose for it too!! Pretty safe if you just get a decent lift pump, unless of coarse you have one lying around or money's no object.
‘P-pump doesn’t go as wrong as often as the vp44’...understatement of the century for diesels. P-pump runs for over a million miles, and can lift fuel without a lift pump if they have to from other failures, vp44 fails once lift pump fails, or around 150k miles

Ur dead wrong bucko mabye learn some more before you hate while yes the vp fails as soon as lift pump starts going bad as long as the lift pump supplies good fuel that vp will last a very long time more than 300k miles mines at 210 and stock vp running strong
@@thundershot2105 I literally said it fails when lift pump fails, thats exactly what you said as well. of course, if the lift pump supplies fuel it can live a long time, the 150k is just when i heard of lift pumps failing. read my statement again, bucko. My airdog seized and i drove my p-pump 50mi on the highway, slowly, it did it just fine no boost, doubt a vp would make it to the shoulder.
99 ram Cummins engine stock bottom end can handle 1000hp no problem. Also the VP44 is perfect just replace the lift pump with a fass or raptor pump. On the automatic transmission if it goes bad use billet shaft ,servos and accumulater. Throw a triple disc torque converter. This truck should not give you any problems for a long time.

Nice. I see more 2nd gen Rams out there than any other truck brand in a 2nd gen. Got to love these Rams.
The engines on these things were absolutely bulletproof, but sadly the rest of the truck would fall apart around the engine.
Any engines outlive the bodies of the vehicles true fact too
