My favorite interpretation of this song. Been following Erutan since she was KateTheGreat19 back in 2009. Glad to see her music is still being appreciated.
This is a fantastic interpretation of a favourite song. It was an inspired choice to depict the willow tree as a living spirit in her own right, and not only as the maiden's enchanted home.
And he fell to his knees and wept The depth of his mistake to ken His anguished tears did water the flower That was once his true love And so back into the forest he ran Back to the willow he cut And his own blood did he draw The last blood his axe would draw And on his anguished blood and tears He vowed to forever protect the forest Alongside the spirit of his true love And thus still today Upon the soft breeze you might hear his vow "See me now...I will protect this place"
I do not think he truly loved the willow maid the feeling I believe he had was lust and the obsessive need to possess her as an object. She told him no twice and wept over her tree once he cut it down mercilessly. No offense to you the added lyrics were nice and I'm sure they would have been sung beautifully but I don't think it Fits
@@scorchinganimationstudios3204 I agree. These lyrics are nice and sweet but this man would not undergo such a change so quickly. He was forceful and cruel.
It's like the two were sisters magically bound to the same tree. One a fairy, the other a dryad. Willow was the elder and the warrior. She protected her sister from many lovesick men. The fairy, Róisín (Irish for little rose.) would sing for Willow, who loved music. They spent many happy hours together under their tree and together they protected the forest. then the hunter came. He heard Róisín's song upon the wind. Willow saw him first and knew that he like all before him would try to take her sister from her. From the forest. She warned Róisín and then stood behind the tree and watched. Sure enough, he asked her to come with him. Róisín said no. "See me now. I am a ray of light in the moon dance. I cannot leave this place." Willow stepped in front of Róisín and told the man to leave. The next day he returned with a yellow rose. He proposed to Róisín, begging her to be his bride. Again she said no. "Don't ask me to follow where you lead." She said as she stood by her sister. The man was reluctant to go so Willow fought him and told him the next time he returned, she would show him no mercy. On the third day, the hunter returned. Willow saw the ax and knew his intentions. He would cut the tree and kill them both. She stood between Róisín and the hunter and gave him a warning. "Leave." She said, "I will not ask twice." He replied, "I will take the green-eyed fairy, She is to be my wife." Willow attacked, fighting the hunter with all her strength. "Róisín will never be yours!" Willow shouted. She was strong, But the hunter was stronger. He forced Willow to the ground with his blade. "I shall set her free!" He said. Róisín heard him, saw her sister, and cried out. She ran to Willow. "No!" She screamed as the ax spilled Willow's blood. Róisín wept as she tried to stop the bleeding, her tears mending the wound. But the hunter cut her sister's namesake and as it fell, Willow looked up at her sister and took her last breath. "Now your willow has fallen and you belong to me." He said. Róisín's heart shattered. Her strength was gone, and she did not fight as the hunter dragged her through the woods. As She took a step out of the edge of her forest and collapsed on the earth. The hunter knelt next to her begging her to stay with him. Róisín heard her sister's voice, "I am waiting for you." Her eyes closed and her body melted away. In her place was a perfect shimmering rose. The hunter stayed until the sun came up and the flower wilted. As he walked away, he heard Róisín's song and Willow's flute. And every night, this is the song the spirits of those two sisters sing, to warn other men away from their home. The hunter knew his obsession was the cause of their pain. Since then, he has taken it upon himself to protect the forest. Listening to the songs of the Willow maids, and vowing blood from those that would try and take from the forest what should never be taken.
@@ChristyAilene thanks! I also like to point out how well you did in this, especially since you did this in the forest. In sandals. Walking through the woods in shoes that flat is the worst! and you did a fight scene in them! impressive! beyond impressive!
Happy to support. Your biggest issue will be getting the video in front of people. I saw it because I am a fan of the song and play it often. Your video popped up one day in my options. Sad song brought to life so well. It sucks he wound up killing her, but she was a Dryad that was bound to the tree, just a soul. The lesson to be learned...no means no and you could ultimately destroy that which you seek due to greed and covetry. He shoulda listened and the warrioress trying to protect the tree shoulda been a warning, though I believe she was meant to be the tree the Dryad was bound to.
actually some parts of the song make it sound more like he mistakenly thought she was a normal woman forcibly confined to the forest perhaps through means of dark magic tied to the willow and so he thought cutting it down would dispel the dark magic he thought was there....only to realize at the end that there was no dark magic at all and that the woman he'd fallen for was a Dryad, hence my above post on a possible addendum to the song....and drew his own blood with his axe and used basically every drop of it in his body along with his anguished tears to fuel a magical promise for his spirit to protect the forest forevermore incidentally I picture the times that he must manifest physical form to execute that promise looking like the fight scene in a movie I don't know the name of but Chuck Norris I think plays some form of mountain forest guardian defending the forest from loggers and I picture the times the young man in this song must take physical form to protect the forest as he promises in my post looking a lot like those fight scenes :-P

Yes, the tree is OK with him being there if the maiden is OK with it.
As soon as he makes her uncomfortable, she gets aggressive

Iam a NDE and my remembrances are of the willow maid on the forest on medieval Ireland as many other past lives as in Ireland
Lyrics
A young man walked through the forest
With his quiver and hunting bow
He heard a young girl singing
And followed the sound below
There he found the maiden
Who lives in the willow
He called to her as she listened
From a ring of toadstools red
'Come with me my maiden
Come from thy willow bed'
She looked at him serenely
And only shook her head.
'See me now, a ray of light in the moondance
See me now, I cannot leave this place
Hear me now, a strain of song in the forest
Don't ask me, to follow where you lead'
A young man walked through the forest
With a flower and coat of green
His love had hair like fire
Her eyes an emerald sheen
She wrapped herself in beauty
So young and so serene
He stood there under the willow
And he gave her the yellow bloom
'Girl my heart you've captured
Oh I would be your groom'
She said she'd wed him never
Not near, nor far, nor soon
'See me now, a ray of light in the moondance
See me now, I cannot leave this place
Hear me now, a strain of song in the forest
Don't ask me, to follow where you lead'
A young man walked through the forest
With an axe sharp as a knife
I'll take the green-eyed fairy
And she shall be my wife
With her I'll raise my children
With her I'll live my life
The maiden wept when she heard him
When he said he'd set her free
He took his axe and used it
To bring down her ancient tree
'Now your willow's fallen
Now you belong to me'
'See me now, a ray of light in the moondance
See me now, I cannot leave this place
Hear me now, a strain of song in the forest
Don't ask me, to follow where you lead'
She followed him out the forest, and collapsed upon the earth
Her feet had walked but a distance,
From the green land of her birth
She faded into a flower,
That would bloom for one bright eve
He could not take from the forest,
What was never meant to leave.
So beautiful.
