      I loved this a lot more than I thought I would, since I love Erutan's original video (with her drawings) so much. Great cosplay and acting, great cinematography as well. :D The girl who played the fairy even looked as though she were singing--I know it's lip syncing, but it felt as if Erutan's voice was coming out of her! And yes, both attractive people in the leading roles who matched their parts in the story. (Those gorgeous critters, too.) Great job, guys. ^_^

    Something I realised while reading the lyrics of this song and the video shows it as well, it takes a long time for one man to cut down a tree that size. Hours. Meaning he listened to her scream in agony for hours to stop while he chopped down her tree and he was so obsessed he didn't care.
    EDIT: Thank you for the likes!!!

    This is so beautiful but sad.
    If he had truly loved her, he would have stayed in the forest with her, instead of destroying the Willow that she was so obviously born from as a fairy.
    Her cries as he cut down the tree that she was a part of, would also have affected him so he wouldn't have been been able to do it to begin with, because would you cut off an arm or leg of someone you truly love, or run a dagger through their heart, which is what he effectively did to her.
    Another thing is him destroying a beautiful ancient tree, that had seen generations rise and fall.
    I cried from sorrow and balled up my fists in anger while watching this video.
    And that he simply got on his horse and rode away after literally murdering her whom he was so obsessed with. Ugh.
    And to think this is how many people are in reality with those they're supposed to love. 😓
    This was so powerful in so many ways.

    This is excellent and so much effort was put into this. This is a throwback to my late childhood. I still regularly listen to erutan while I'm working. I have two things.
    1. This makes me happy to see that Kate Covington still has such a strong fanbase. Despite the issues she has been dealing with in regards to her voice we absolutely love her talent!
    2. My tip for helping with the lip syncing.... she did very well with the timing but when Kate was singing you could tell by her voice that she was feeling emotional and that would have bled into her facial expressions. There were a few times during the beginning that her facial expressions didn't match the intensity of Kate's voice. I understand she was going for the whole serenity vibe that the willow maid gave off, though. That's a hard balance to strike.

    wow, in this song there are actually 2 messages, and maybe more that i didn't get
    1 you can see the obssession that sometimes people calls love but it is not, how that kills the other half while love should bring happiness and not grim
    2 how we take from the nature whatever we want even if those things shouldn't be taken away, without thinking that we're killing the earth
    beautiful

    The way he hesitates to pick the flower and decides not to shows how in the end he realized she was never meant to leave the forest, and the way he drops the axe next to it shows how he'd given up and made peace with the fact that he cannot always have things go the way he wants. I think it's nice character development that was not in the original story clip from eturan! It definitely paints him as a little more likable character in the end, rather than him just leaving after what terrible things he'd done.

      @@mellimon7239 well as much as your opinion is respectable imma have to disagree in the original song i believe she's genuinely meant to seem arrogant because she's probably (i'm guessing) isn't human was raised in forest and surrounded by animals i don't believe that the character understands what arrogance even is, as to the actress she was hired to play a part and (in my opinion) played it well. Not saying that your opinion is wrong or anything and, I'm not accusing you BUT maybe we shouldn't judge the actress as a person solely based of a part she played in a nice 8 minute video. all this being said this is just my 2 cents do what you will with it and have a fantastic rest of your day night whatever.

      She's a forest nymph. She's not a human. In the stories, they're closer to fairies than humans, and forever bound to the tree they're born from. They don't understand human emotions or human sin, they simply exist as a spirit and don't carry any negative feeling, and they don't try to.

      It's a common _topos_ of ancient folktales, yes you can read it as "man falls in love with a magical woman" but I'd rather say it's more "human vs nature". There are many legends similar to this one, like the selkie for example. Each time the woman is connected to the nature and when the man eradicates her because of his selfishness she dies and he's left with nothing. Also, these stories take place long before feminist awareness

    • @CosplayMay
      @CosplayMay 3 роки тому +15

      @@dianapohe There's no "it's more (...)" or correct meaning. Erutan made this song during the 21th century, and I am pretty sure she intended for the meaning to be as open as possible. Also the story of a man imposing his will on a woman is definitely not a rare one and is deserving of awareness as much as any other meaning.
      Also : "In Celtic mythology a man will often claim a sea nymph or tree nymph as his bride, but I never read any story where the fairy had any say in the matter." as said by the singer herself about her song, clearly this interpretation has its importance as well.

    • @dianapohe
      @dianapohe 3 роки тому +4

      @@CosplayMay well, as you said there is no correct interpretation, this is why i kept the conditional tense in my comment 😊 and i never said you can't give it a literal interpretation. It´s based on similar folk tales where a human man takes a fairy/other magical being from the woods to marry, and the creators noted that usually in those stories the fey in question doesn´t get much say in the matter... So they made this story as a worst case scenario of what grabbing a fairy without asking her could lead to. I have loved this song for years. SO nice to see it brought to life. I see it as a metaphor of man forcing nature to his will and destroying it in the process.

    I loved this video and the whole interpretation of the story. This Erutan's song is amazing and congratulations to the actors and the entire production team. I particularly liked the way the actor played the young hunter. I think that frustrated look on his face represented very well the feeling of "Oh she keeps denying me and I want her so bad, I'm so frustrated! I'm going to have her no matter what!", and to me that seems so consistent with the behavior of some men (I'm not generalizing) that it's taking by force what they want, regardless of the consequences for others, which is part of the message of the Erutan song. Once more, congratulations for this amazing video.

    Video ini membuatku sadar tentang rasa yang selama ini tidak aku mengerti, mengapa aku tak ingin meninggalkan pasangan hidupku walau apa pun yang terjadi walau dia tak seindah dulu saat pertama aku mengambilnya dari keluarganya.
    Bait terakhir itu benar benar menyadarkanku, "dia tak bisa mengambil untuk ditinggalkan".
    Terimakasih untuk video ini, salam dari Indonesia.

    Also when I first heard this song, I remember thinking it was about a couple who fell in love but the woman would not leave the willow because she would die but I can see now the love could be seen as one sided. Really interesting perspective!

    In the end we mankind destroy the richness and purness of the earth by our own hands.

Or some of the mothers who have murdered either their husbands or children (sometimes both). Stepmothers who murdered the step-child. I watch a lot of true crime and while women are less often and less likely to do such things, women still do sometimes. Men, on average, are more likely and more often guilty of this degree of selfishness, yes, yet women still can do so as well.

As a former history teacher I had the occasional student submit some interesting projects, some group live action submissions, this project is exquisite and I hope you much success in your studies in whatever field they are in. I hope you will make more 'projects' like this in the future, I will be watching for them.

      Btw I can see why you turned off comments on The Washing Machine short film you did. It was brilliant, very moving, that last bit when she ran inside looking for Gabby, I knew the ending already. I taught in several inner city and rural schools with very poor families. I came very close more than once to taking a few parents apart over situations like that especially some fathers. One school I was at serve grades 6-12,- I taught grades 6-8 but made many friends among the older students. One girl, showed me and the gym coach the drugs she was going to see that day so she could feed her 2 younger siblings and herself. She did not use, she was trying to graduate (11th grade at the time) so she could take custody of the kids. Her dad only came around when he needed a place to crash or to steal something to sell. Her mom was a crack whore and spent every bit of money on drugs and clothes for herself. We could not turn her in, she knew that. She was always asking for advice how to survive and escape- the coach came from the same area and same circumstances and I have a way with people, especially students, they trust me and know I would never do wrong for them. That kind of situation and the one in your film are far too common, more common that the public knows or wants to know. That film should be submitted for an award. It reminds me a lot of the sort film "Cipher in the Snow" ( ua-cam.com/video/5oZDzuHPQVs/v-deo.html).
      You have some real talent.
