    This AK was made possible by zack/AKGuy, but it was under strict instructions to follow the AK105 blueprints. The base rifle was a saga 5,45, which uses the semi auto version of the AK74M receiver (factory Kalashnikov), the barrel is the same barrel as the 74M, so are the bolt, carrier and trunnion.
    What Zack had to do was fit the factory AK105 parts kit (that i obtained from the motherland pre-war) to the saiga 5.45 and ensure my annoying specs were met, including doing things the hard way like relocating the gas port from the 74M position to the 105 position and angle drilling the port at the correct size.
    So extra attention was present to duplicate what Kalashnikov concern publishes for their blueprints (my sources are from KK directly), and using a Kalashnikov Concern base rifle that used AK74M/AK105 guts that Kalashnikov concern put together (or built).
    Therefore, the AK105 isn't put together using any alternative methods that would deviate it from factory specs, but rather it's a factory spec 105 shooting factory steel cased ammo.

    I have experimented with AK's cut just in front of the gas block.......I had I 13.5 " 5.56 Saiga that I traded for a Vepr 12 and it was VERY accurate. Henry actually responded to a comment I made back then about it and mentioned a variant in 5.45......gentlemen I have come to believe that this barrel length is the perfect solution for the 5.45/5.56 AK's. The 7.62 x 39 maybe also, but I have not noticed as much of a difference. (although there is some improvement). I personally believe it is reducing that famous barrel whip shown in slow motion camera work. Perhaps this with some affect caused by the right chassis system, and we get some kind of magic. I'm no one special, just a dude that has built a few and tinkered with a lot of AK's.....my opinion is you are onto something with the mid length variants. I have had the same experience myself more than once. I even trimmed a FAL back to 14" once and with my hand loads it was comically accurate. I guess there is a sweet spot with every platform, it's over my head but I to have seen it.....good shooting my friends.

      Generally same reason bull barrels are used for many precision guns, stiffer barrel is better, advantage to bull barrels is you can match their length to the powder load, ensuring fullburn which equals maximum velocity (that helps with drop and wind drift) ... So i would assume a longer stiffer barrel may perform even better (or should i say easier to shoot as well)

      PWS used to make a mid-length gas piston AR(Think LWRC, not AK). I had Addax tactical get me one since they were friends with PWS guys. It had the double chrome lined FN barrel, and it shoots more accurately than should be possible, and it was pleasant to shoot. Just a magical combo. They went with the AK style piston now, but the other could have been a great dmr

    I knew at some point there was going to be a AK that would clear the course cleanly. The only question i had was if it'd be a 5.56 AK or a 5.45 AK. I used to(naively) believe that the AK could never be as if not more accurate than a AR. But over time, i realized the AK platform actually is more accurate when you give it a smaller bullet.(7.62x39 isn't bad and is capable, but the long range ballistics performance compared to the 5.56 and the 5.45 simply outperforms it.)

    • @off6848

      Honestly before seeing this I thought 5.56 was better at range too even though its ass compared to a full power cartridge but now I don't know. I know 5.45 shreds soft targets way better at closer ranges but I figured that range would be the compromise

    Hi Henry and thank you! As an owner of Saiga MK03 I was really pleased to see how skillfully you demonstrated technical possibilities of my rifle. But this setup in your hands is not fully the same as I have. Yes, its the same receiver, stock and even fire control US Palm handle. But my barrel is different, its 341mm long instead of 314 due to civilian law restrictions. And my optics is Holosun 503 and the last worth to mention difference is that my ammunition is 223Rem instead of 5,45 ) But no matter, I also thought before (like many people) that shortened AK is for storm actions and CQB. After good practice experience I realised that I'm desperate enogh to conquer 300m distances. And only after your video I see now what kind of challenge my rifle is worthy.
    Thanks again and best regards from Moscow.

    The AK-100 series uses a slightly thicker receiver than the AKM or the AK-74 based rifles (1.25mm versus 1mm). I wonder if that contributes to increased accuracy you've noted in the AK-100 series rifles.
    Regarding the gassing and decreased recoil versus a standard-length AK-74... I think it's fair to note that Zach would have needed to re-drill the gas hole for the shorter barrel, and that Zach's work may be more precise than a factory that turns out hundreds (if not thousands) of rifles a day on an assembly line.
    Anyway, I am very impressed with the run and super jealous of the build. You and Josh have also improved a lot as a shooter/spotter team.

    • @armorers_wrench
      @armorers_wrench 10 місяців тому +3

      Yeah its not just Zach from AKG that is more precise, it's gonna be the drill press he's using to drill these and even the drill bits are definitely going to be higher quality than what you'd find in a 3rd world AK factory. I don't know but he might even be using a bridgeport mill to drill these and they're very controllable with the DRO and such.
      The receiver thickness probably doesn't have much to do with the accuracy. It probably has more to do with the fact that this was built by a high end custom AK builder. Honestly, the barrel is mounted to the front trunnion not the receiver directly so I think the receiver probably has very little to do with the accuracy. Maybe though? What do I know.

    • @skepticalbadger

      @@skepticalbadger I think there are only two main types of izhmash ak receiver today: one for 5.45 and another for 5.56 and 7.62x39, cause that was the idea behind the ak unification in 90s. So every ak 100 in 5.45 should have the same receiver.

    • @christopherdolan7330
      @christopherdolan7330 10 місяців тому

      @@trofchik9488 the AK-105 would need a slightly larger gas port than the AK-74M, due to the shorter barrel and reduced dwell time. This rifle started life with a 16" barrel, so Zach would have needed to increase the gas port diameter as part of the conversion process. But perhaps Zach's work is likely much more precise than a factory-built AK-105 from Russia. So it's not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison.

      When you are shooting with a pistol for fun,yes why not .But in a war situation I wouldn't bet my life with a pistol.first about the lethality of the bullet,with today's vests.good enough in case you are caught with your pants down and you don't have anything else handy.otherwise it's an extra weight.in the war situation where dust ,mud ,rocks ,sand are present,my first preference for an assault rifle it is the AK.battle rifle,SCAR,FN FAL,G3.as for the M4 it is finicky in battle situations because of the dirt factor.if I had to ,I will choose a HK 416.it eliminates all the problems with the AR platform

    Ok boys - there are collections of tomes to unpack here about AK accuracy in this utterly fantastic video... However, I won't delve into all the accuracy enhancements that can be done to the Kalashnikov, particularly when it's built, but I think the unsung hero is the round and even this type of ammo. The 5.45 is ballistically more efficient than a 5.56 - which they didn't mention but should've when they referenced the AK Niner. This is also Russian ammo in a barrel built by Russians in a factory and barrel designed for that Russian ammo - home run there. This is rather exceptional performance for the ammo - even given all other variables, including Henry's obvious skill and experience. I think if they researched ammo more and shot as many groups as they could (short and long range) this thing could have performed a little bit better, believe it or not. I get respectable groups out of my 5.45 rifles with all kinds of Russian or whatever post Comm Bloc ammo... But if they shot Hornady or some other precision 5.45 (if that even exists...), the accuracy could've been better - which is even more remarkable given the "platform" and it's inherent limitations regarding accuracy.

      Check out SSG 82 East German police sniper rifle. It's chembered for 5,45x39. I've read an article in Polish press about that rifle, and there was mentioned, that the owner had to make his own handloads, carefully measuring and weighting each projectile and powder load for each cartridge. But after this ordeal, he printed impresively tight groups.

    I have been following your channel for a long time and I have to say that your professional expertise is very high.
    I was born in East Germany and served in the former NVA. I have previously shot an AK47 and therefore know the strengths and weaknesses of this weapon. And what is very important - I still learned how to sight using the rear sight and front sight. Nowadays, shooting is almost exclusively done with diopters or optical sights. That's why I'm impressed by their shooting skills, especially with AK series weapons. You are an absolutely objective weapons expert. Congratulations.

    I would expect Finnish RK to be built with tight enough tolerances to reach that accuracy but seeing Russian build do that was more surprising. The base operating systems tend to be more accurate than shooters when built properly no matter if it is long stroke, short stroke or internal piston...

Seal Chadd of 3 of 7 project's site.. and Hickock .45 hits his gong out there at around 75 yards or so all the time..

      That reference came from the 7.62x39, Hence why the Russians came out with the 5.45x39 in the first place, was to compete with the 5.56x45 round at longer ranges as the 7.62x39 does start having a lot of bullet drop after 300 yards/M compared to the 5.45 and 5.56, like double the drop, if I remember right.
      If you are a great shot you can shoot out to 600 yards with a 7.62x39, but as you see in video footage of people such as Rob at AKOU hit out to 600 yards , but the bullet looks more like it is being launched like a mortar round.. 300 and under though the 7.62x39 has considerable energy though.
      That being said I have a 7.62x39 AK, but with the current cost and availability of 7.62x39 and especially the 5.45x39 it defeated the whole reason I bought my AK to begin with, cheap rifle and cheaper ammo, neither are true anymore sadly..
      Yeah ,if you are wealthy and a collector I guess it is not such an issue, but for me I am seriously thinking of getting rid of my AK and the 2500rnds of ammo I have just for the reasons I mentioned alone... My AR has widely available parts and ammo and aftermarket support is way beyond that of an AK..
      That being said I have a Cheap PSA GF3 that I modified a little, but was pleasantly surprised when I first shot it with the original furniture and just the Iron sights as, first of all the front sight was not canted at all and it was right on at 100 yards shooting 4in clays laying against the 100 yard berm, so I would guess it was more like 120-125 yards out and I am not what you consider a good shot, being I get very little practice in at .50 cents per round and I like to shoot at least 300-500 rounds when I go to an out door range, so it cost a minimum of $150 with just shooting the AK, not including the pistol ammo, The only thing I can go crazy on is my little Ruger 10/22.. 😂 Perhaps one day I will be able to afford training regularly..
