Training film on basic metal-working skills, part 1 of 3. For more about the open source machine tools project, please go to www.opensourcemachinetools.com
As Cami Lewis suggests below, this video is fantastic. I recently inherited lots of tools from a relative who used all these machines on a regular basis. Through this I gained great interest. This video has not only strengthened my interest but also explained what several tools are which I inherited and didn't know the uses of. Thanks for providing these videos. I'm eagerly moving on to the second one now.
This is amazing. I first found these videos on a website a year or so ago when I was finding my interest in machining. I put the whole series of these videos on my tablet and i would watch them over and over. and now here they are on youtube. every beginner machinist should watch the entire series of these videos. I learned so much by watching these videos that helped me once i finally started school.
sorry to be offtopic but does anyone know of a tool to log back into an instagram account?? I was dumb lost my account password. I appreciate any help you can offer me.
@Bryce Dash thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and im trying it out atm. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
These videos are excellent. A really good primer on use of tools. I’ve been using this type of kit for years and still picked up a few tips. Shame the video quality is poor but I could tolerate that all day to listen to this guy.
Are you saying that MIT couldn't have gotten good cameras in 95? This looks a bit, but not much, better than the quality my father got on his first handheld video camera that he bought cheap in Thailand around the same time.
@@jonatanrullman I imagine this was shot on video tape and then transferred to an EP or LP VHS cassette. It was then played 4 to 6 times a semester for about 6 years, left in some back room for a couple more, then digitized by a cheap interface, and then transferred from one format to another, one compression algorithm to another, until it ended up here on UA-cam. Most of the artifacts I see in this video look like digital compression artifacts rather than recording issues.
Your caution is well intended however I have been using dial calipers to scribe lines for decades and never damaged a single tool. Dial calipers are so cheap now that I wouldn't care anyway.
btw.... this guy is a freeking giant. i have to stand on my tip toes to change a tool. when i first started doing work on a millng machine i was shocked at the size because this guy makes them look way smaller then in real life. lol
+Thomas Headley programing is no longer a skill most of cycles are in mach all actually needed are codes versus old days of binary point to point versus..the newer believe your now beyond 36t fanuc..

Thanks so much, you saved my account!

This is the most interesting thing in the world.
Sweet videos thanks a lot. I really wish these were in 1080p as it is hard to see a lot of the details without it, but this still a great resource.
Great presentation. Thank you.
Excellent video.
Very interesting and informative, thank you for sharing this.
Excellent, thank you!
Sweet videos thanks a lot.
Don't you use a digital height gage for layout work? Or even a height gage and a dial indicator. A very accurate way to layout and check your work.
I'd love to own a drill press like this one. Please tell me the brand/model.
viedeo you are very professional, I will always support, share together, thank you
bom de mas o vedeo de uzinagem
Where can I buy the same punch mark center with the free tip?

This was filmed in 1995, what do you expect?!
No surface plate at MIT?
very nice. absolute shame that such a clear and concise explanation was shot in such low resolution :( but still, very good thank you
1995.

I typed "1995".

07:13 That is not called a square, it's a combination square.
A grinder shouldn't be next to a buffing machine. Never punch mark or scribe with your measuring tools.

Oh yeah I know. I'm already at that point.
Oh and I was never intimidated ;-)

Why did he wear eye protection during the simple and safe process of marking out the workpiece?
+Alan Liefting Safety first. _Always_.
If he is that incompetent that he needs safety glasses to mark out a workpeice then he should not be anywhere near a workshop.
+Alan Liefting If you're in a workshop, other people are running machines as well. It's not just you the majority of times. Snide comment is noted.
Tapping fluid's high toxicity? Okay MIT. Gotta be privileged to think like that.
he lost me at 9:13- "1.5 letter letter ??? WTF Erik
