I've also done quite a bit with guys at least 6 (but going up to ~30) years older and I think it makes more sense when you approach it without the usual premises of a traditional relationship. The goal is enjoying each other's presence and what they bring to your life (and vice versa) and less just milestones for the sake of milestones. You not being a part of whatever percentage of people choosing a more conventional route is not a tragedy or a blemish on either of you. Live your life for yourself. That being said it's interesting that all the younger partners are ~27 here, which imo is an age where the more abusive potential of an age-gap relationship declines. The vibe here is more "I know who I am and this is what i want", you get this impression less with early 20s.
I'm 24. My boyfriend is 19. It's the healthiest relationship I've ever been in. Our friends tell us that our relationship is their standard when looking for their own. We are both very much in love and wildly happy with what we've created together. He loves to make fun of me for being "old" and doesn't care about other peoples' perceptions. Which is one of the very few ways I see our age difference manifest. He's still a little naive to some things or feels invincible, whereas I, having a few years more experience in life, have had that ignorance wiped away. So while he may not have issues disclosing our age gap, I'm certainly more reserved. Not because I think there's anything wrong with what we're doing. Aside from the (healthy!) teasing, it isn't even something that comes up or plays much of a role between us, but because I'm horrified at the possibility of people (much like those in these comments!) thinking they're the experts in the most important relationship in our lives, one of which others cannot possibly know unless they are in it. And yet, that doesn't stop people from throwing out ridiculous claims such as the older person being a groomer, and thus infantilizing adults who are capable of making their own decisions about what's best for them. While I've been fortunate to not have experienced such judgement thus far, it isn't difficult for me to understand that being unfairly labelled as a predator, creep, and/or groomer would not feel very good. And thus, I am in fact hesitant to share the age gap! Hope this helps

Another person posted a math equation for how age gaps can work In her response the lower range was half ones age plus 7 so 24 divided by 2 plus 7 is 19 so your story follows her math perfectly. The upper end that that person suggested was ones age times 2 minus 14 so that same math applied to your boyfriend would be 19 x 2 minus 14 which equals 24 so that math works for your relationship as well. I am 43 so my age range with that math is 28.5 for my lower age range and 72 for my upper range so the older one gets the more the math has a broader range.

@@artemis88899 I don't think the first sentence is true. Cancer and heart disease are both considered natural causes, and those are the two leading causes of death for all ages above 45. That said, people who don't die from natural causes are still people, so I think you do have to consider them when making a statement that "most people" don't die until their 80s and up. You make a good point with the second sentence but I would need to see statistics on what the life expectancy would be if infant mortality was not counted to know whether that really makes a difference

Okay I know what the one girl meant when she said that there is not a power dynamic between her and her partner, but there is inherently power dynamics between them (gender, sex, age, race, etc) just as there is in any relationship. I think saying that they approach their relationship as egalitarian is what she is going for.
I think she was referring to an added power dynamic that some people asume age gap relationship create.
She meant due to the age gap but all age gap relationships have that power dynamic so I don’t agree with what she said anyway
She obviously meant financial and mental(in a bad way) power dynamic. And how does race play role in this relationship power dynamics??
She just is ignorant and doesn’t think about that difficult stuff, the geezer provides money and reminds her of a fatherly figure she’s either missing or wish she had.

Wow these are some wild age gaps!
It's so interesting when people in these relationships talk about how comfortable they are but they always hesitate to tell others the age gap.
Probably because - - - this comments section times 100 in judgements.
That doesn't have to be something bad tho, I think it's probably fear of getting judged but I can also imagine that it can get frustating over time to always have to explain your relationship, and the ages that come with it, when you meet someone
