      Well, I won the Hotter 'N Hell 100 bike race in Wichita Falls, but then I also have a t-shirt that reads, "I gagged Linda Lovelace" on the front of it and "Well, almost" on the back of it, so I am not so sure my biking boast tale is believable or just a dream. :-)

    If you're considering one of these, GET THE WARRANTY!! I went through 3 bottom brackets in less than a year. The wheels bend easy so be prepped to true them back. Killed the pedals in about a month, but I hate plastic pedals. The exposed cables can be a problem so just keep them really clean and lube the openings by the housings or the twist shifters get really stiff. It's a great intro/throwaway bike. I'd say it's best asset is the frame. The geometry is comfortable and I regularly rode 15 miles at a time after replacing the saddle. I learned a lot about bike maintenance because of all the problems. All of the issues due to the low quality of this bike helped me to justify spending $300+ for better quality.

    The bike is very reliable. I have bought this bike 5 times, currently riding the last one bought. First one rode for 7 yrs before donating, next 2 were stolen, 4th one sold and moved out of state. As soon i got settled, bought another online as they all were. Last purchase cost less than my first one, which was 13 yrs later.

    I found one of these. Someone taco'd the rear wheel, and threw it away. Tightened cranks, replaced the rear wheel, and greased the bearing and all is good. This is worth $79. Weak point is mostly the fork. Almost to the point of being dangerous. I replaced the levers too, they were way flexy. Brakes are great otherwise. Really a good buy for anyone on a budget. Steel frame, but strong and well built. Well worth the money as long as you don't plan on doing drops on that fork.

    I got this bike to mix in a different type of cardio training while I prepare for Navy boot camp, so far I love it, but yeah, get a different seat or seat cushion because it is literal death, but that's pretty standard for stock bikes at that price.

    The twist shifters on this Roadmaster bike are noted to break easily. You can find them online on WalMart or at Ebay, but you really have to watch which ones you get. I just bought one of these bikes from a fellow and it had a right side broken squeeze shifter. I have to await my parts to replace it. Cable housings can crack easily, as well. It is a motorized bike, but has held up well for him for about a year, now. The stock seat is a ball breaker seat and not the least bit comfortable, in my own opinion. I wish it would actually go down in the tube to make the seat lower a bit, but apparently it won't do that more than I already have it adjusted. Looking forward to getting it all complete and using it. Nice bike and you present a nice video of it, too. Wish I had an owner's manual for reference though.

    When I first got this bike, I had no idea what to expect. I just wanted something to commute to work and I had almost no money, and the. I saw this and HAD to have it, then after saving up for a good while I finally got one. My impressions are that the rims suck ass because their more fragile than an 80 year old women’s collar bone. But the reliability is astounding! I’ve ridden almost 400 miles on mine.. so 10/10 I would recommend.

    Mine has held up good for 27 months it's used only occasionally now still looks like new the tires are worn out I've got a nice pair of beige gumball street tires for a I bought the 2-year warranty didn't need it fortunately like most rim brakes it takes a lot of adjustments

  • @RichardVanMeter-j5x
    @RichardVanMeter-j5x Рік тому

    There is a quick lube release for the break it is on the silver racket on the brake lever you pull the noodle out of there I would recommend Google you up a video about it for those who don't know what to do about it during assembly or for you receive one of these assembled any bike from Walmart take the seat post out and The handlebar stem and put some grease on them somewhere down the line the subject no thank you for not having a rusted stuck seatpost or handlebars stem by the way my Roadmaster granite peak almost looks new time to rotate the tires and I've got a set of decent tires for them for mid-next year the only thing I've had to do was make a brake adjustment on the front

    For 7 and a half months I rode one of these 4.8 miles to work 4 times a week and made multiple urban journeys. Saw no problems for the first 4 months until the shifter became so tight that the rubber started to tear off and I needed a vice grip to shift it. Then I wore all the tred on the rear tire off and it went flat. After I got a new tire both brakes were shot and useless then both shifters wore out completely and I only had 2 working gears. Then after riding it through snow the rear wheel developed surface rust and the chain rusted completely solid soon after. Thankfully I have upgraded to a 2001 Schwinn Sierra GS since and it's way better but the Roadmaster held up pretty good for a Walmart bike in the conditions I rode it in

    Great review! These cheap chinese bikes are fine for what you pay for. I bought cheapest roadmaster bike in 2003 and rode it for next 15 years. What failed? wheel hubs! Front and rear wheel hubs went out. Not sure if greasing the bearings regularly would have helped. In anycase I replaced wheel hubs. Another weakness is the plastics. They can easily crack, especially shifters. Pedals made out of plastic become looser as plastic wears out. Brake levers although made out of plastic never failed. Cheap brakes also never failed. Frame is of course very solid and never had any issues as are the ultra cheap gear shifters which are also very reliable and never failed.

    Nice video it was fun to watch. I had one of these bikes and as the woman at the bike shop sed I severely overbuilt it. it's a awesome bike for a beginner to ride around town but the rerailers need constant adjustment witch is part of why I fill it's a good starter bike because it forces you to learn to work on it all and all I give the bike a 4.5 out of 5

    I had an older one of Leesburg dumpster an older version actually it was not bad it was highly reliable my fleet was getting bigger so I left it on the curb on the west side of town for some reason that I can't recall somebody got a nice prison that day it is a really nice set of bontrager's intercourse that was the only upgrade again it was a rigid frame I feel strongly even though I haven't had any experience for this current model that is probably a good starter but a lot of people have good things to say about it

    I'm in the market for an inexpensive budget bike to use for commuting to campus, which is about ~3/4 of a mile down the road. I know that these box store bikes get a bad rep among the biking community for falling apart easily, but I have zero intention of doing tricks or going off-road, just asphalt.
    How well has this bike held up for you in these past 6 months? For $80, this bike seems like it would be a strong contender for what I should purchase, but I just want to know if it is reliable at all. If not, do you know of any other decent bikes at a similar price range?

    first of all, this was a fun review. I've been looking into walmart bikes recently because I am on a budget and trying to keep it under 120. I haven't pulled the trigger yet because, well, its from walmart and I want to make sure I don't die. Im not an extreme biker but I was looking to take it on some smooth trails and a minor dirt ones for about 16-30 miles on the weekends. Any suggestions on the best walmart bikes?

      You still looking for a bike? If so, I wanted to mention maybe looking around at a second-hand or surplus store like Goodwill if you are looking for a bike on the cheap. I know it's a long shot, but I actually lucked out about a month ago when I was just wasting time one day. I found a 1999 Cannondale and it cleaned up very well. It was a smaller 600C bike, but I couldn't pass up the $25 price. Obviously secondhand/surplus will always be a crapshoot, but it's something to consider for folks on a low budget (especially if you can find a quality bike, it beats getting a cheap WallyWorld steel bike).

    If you ever took this bike on a trail where there was even the hint of granite, let alone the peak of the trail, good luck! I wouldn't put anything bigger than a 350w motor in this thing. I think even a weak 500w motor would be pushing it.

      +Chris Duke 1000 watts (the motor kit I have) doesn't really feel like more than me giving it my all. I know I can't physically put out that much wattage as a measly human.. but gearing, u know.. I don't expect to do any off road Hill climbing, just on road. This was simply the least expensive/cheapest bike they had. If it was a road bike I would have bought that.

      +ItsEganTime Thanks! I have not ridden it a whole lot but it has held up pretty good. No bearings falling out or grinding sounds... I have experienced those issues from other bikes. Specifically one I bought on eBay a few years back.

    Is a good bike if you upgrade tire to road bike.. the suspension is little weak wish it stronger. ,but magna bike is better. magna bike has more weight which can go faster down the hill.

    • @TRYtoHELPyou
      @TRYtoHELPyou  6 років тому

      i say yes to tweaking it, the gears specifically. That is the case with any bike you dont have professionally tuned from the start. I would not get this for a west coast tour without carrying the same amount of money so that when it breaks i can go to another walmart and then replace it... perhaps looked for a used bike in good shape?

    • @TheGoombaslayer
      @TheGoombaslayer 5 років тому

      really really try to find a good bike from a used bike shop. Squattheplanet has some good guides for bike touring and finding a good bike. A walmart bike is straight up not going to last you, you'll be making constant repairs and theres a good chance the frame will break on you. Theres ways to slap a solid bike together on a small budget.

    Is it critical cycle? Is it Flip Flop Hub?

    • @TRYtoHELPyou
      @TRYtoHELPyou  6 років тому +1

      I have thought about the bike critically, i believe. Is the brand name critical? No, unless you are a stickler for that sort of thing, then of course. As for the hub, if you were to stick your foot through the spokes, given you have a flip flop on your foot, it would be very uncomfortable. Now, if you dont have the flip flop on your foot, it will still be uncomfortable. So, you can probably touch the hubs with your toe but you cant touch them with a flip flop.... while its on you foot. If you are just slipping the flip flop into the spokes then it may very well be able to touch the hub. If you then took zip ties and attached the flip flop to the spokes while rubbing up against the hub, i would say YES. It would then have a flip flop hub.

    • @AK-ic1yj
      @AK-ic1yj 7 років тому

      I already knew how horrible the bike was. Even for free it is still not worth it. There are a lot of vids on YT about these shit bikes. Usually the person knows a little about bikes, points out just how bad it is and then demonstrates this by riding it. Of course the bike promptly snaps like the turd it is. No one ever gets hurt, they know snap city is coming. If you are going to make this an ebike, I worry for you. I was hoping you knew more about bikes and could point out how bad it was and give it a try and we could all sit back and have a laugh. It's cool man, don't sweat it. Be careful with that POS.

      First, watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/rCtGSBrNkeA/v-deo.html
      It'll help you see if your bike is set up right. This guy also has a very good video on adjusting the brakes on this same bike. If you bought the bike for commuting on pavement, it'll probably be fine. Serious mountain bikers like to diss on the Granite Peak, and like to show videos where they take the bike in the rough stuff and kill it. It's not up to that type of riding. But, then, it only costs $80. If you break, say the rear derailer, replace it with a better one. If a wheel gets out of round, you can find good videos on how to true a wheel on a bike also on UA-cam. Does it hurt your butt? Look into a replacement seat. Many bikes come with crappy seats. Even more expensive ones too. If you decide later you want to do some real off road mountain biking, you can always spend the big bucks for a better bike later. You can do your own flat repairs and tire replacements too. No need to take the bike into a shop for this. You can easily carry a spare tube, tire patch kit, and the few tools you would need to fix a flat and do it at the side of the road. And, if your bike got stolen, well, you only paid $80 for it.
