I GOT IT TO WORK!! He is right in this video, I also read on other websites and this is definitely the cause of wrong version. I was trying to update from 2.60 to 6.20 and it never got it detected, then I tried downloading every version from 2.60 to the most recent, and lo and behold, every versions of 3.xx are readable in the drive! So try to do incremental update rather than shooting for the highest version. Hope this works for others :)
You’re actually my hero. I bought a tomahawk max and was sent a gaming plus max. 6 months later I’m trying to update the bios and cant figure out why my prior 150 attempts haven’t worked.
A million thanks! I've been struggling with this for days and used your advice and verified my motherboard version. I was downloading the bios for the B450M/ac and when I read my bios, it said I have the B450M/ac R2.0. I didn't realize I hadn't picked the exact one sine all the manuals and specs matched what I have in front of me. Finally, it's updating!
This video finally fixed my issue, thank you. I want to make sure others don't make the same (silly) mistake I do, which was downloading the wrong BIOS file: When I built my PC, I took down the name and specs of all my components in a spreadsheet. Apparently, I got lazy, because I wrote down "B450M Pro4" instead of the full name, "B450M Pro4-F R2.0." I assumed that Instant Flash would still at least detect the file if it was the wrong one, but it did not. Double, triple check that you have the correct motherboard by clicking "Main" in the BIOS and reading the model.
thank you very much for your great comment. I have tried everything to update my bios only to realise that I have been trying the wrong files the whole time. Without your advice I would never have had the idea to check the file. Thank you very much! New CPU here I come.

Great tip Brian. Lot of people may indeed have download the correct BIOS version but get caught out on the format part [FAT32] as most thumb drives will mostly be in NTFS format due to size these day.
There are instances where you do all the correct setup and still get the same No image File Detected message.. I've updated 100's of bios and still haven't figured this one out.
Holy cow man. I kept trying to find the answer. You saying over and over it has to be the exact model made me look it up. Asrock x570 steel legend is undetectable by the x570 steel legend wifi. I was going insane
Thanks for this video. Watched it in 2024, and it helped a lot. Just migrated to a new Antec NX416L White Case and a new to me AS Rock B550 Pro 4 Motherboard. I too initially went to the wrong download page. I went to the mini ATX page instead of the ATX version of the MB. I downloaded the latest BIOS, but the image was not recognised. I did have a Fat 32 USB Stick. Anyway, I downloaded each of the 4 latest BIOS files that were newer than mine. I installed them 1 by 1. This time the image file was found. I installed each BIOS update in turn to be on the safe side. By using this method, I was able to update to the latest BIOS. The one pain in the arse thing was that I had to recreate my Windows 11 log in PIN when I started Windows 11.
I'm pretty sure when I originally tried to update my bios on my Asus Tuf Gaming & WiFi, I tried a second time on another different very small USB thumb drive and did make it fat 32 but still got the " not a proper bios file" error thing. As you know, the internet method eventually worked for me. The next time I update my bios, I will make sure I make it fat 32 and see if it works. Actually no reason to update it for now because it's rock solid now with the settings you told me to put in. Thanks Britec.
Thank you for using file manager for your utility. Most others want to use some special utility to do simple disk formating or patitioning. I still have the same problem. It won't find my file on my flash drive. I thought you had the answer to this problem.
Wow. I spent a good hour trying to figure this out until I watched your video. Turns out I had just downloaded the wrong bios update file. I have the steel legend also but I was downloading the atx version when I have the matx one. Glad came across the video! Thanks
Thank you for explaining this. I was losing my mind on why it wasn't showing up and your explanation on how important it is to make sure it's the right motherboard made me check and sure enough I was downloading the wrong update.
Good point about getting the wrong bios I was using a bios for the MSI B450 tomahawk max but there was also a bios for a V2 of this I know there is a standard version and a MAX of this board version but nothing to indicate on the board or instructions about a '' V2 '' The annoying part of this is that version of the bios does not always show up on the MSI website. You really need to confirm the exact board type with some thing like Aida 64.
I finally got it to work thanks from Reddit. I had windows 11 and had “ftpm” enabled from my bios settings that’s how it prevented me to update my bios but it worked for me. The video was still somewhat helpful though.

at 5:08 you leave both the .zip file and the .40 file in the usb drive, are you supposed to do that? I've been only using the .40 file and having issues despite doing everything else in this video. After doing everything just like you did it said invalid file after I tried to install it. Pls send help been struggling with blue screen errors and nothing seems to help... :(
Yesterday I flashed the BIOS on a new build PC for a neighbour friend and it was the first Gigabyte board I had used for many years. Problems I had were unzipping the unusual file extension. It was an 11mb file but an error message about not using this type of file popped up (typical Windows Bill Gates message!) and despite downloading an advanced free unzipping program from the App store I was still left scratching my head. Problems solved (internet no help!) by tabbing across the fields and selecting (from memory, yesterday was a long time ago for a 69yr old!) the option to open any way and hey presto file opened and unzipped! Think Windows and Gigabyte were just trying to keep me on my toes. Sometimes the damned security in Windows 11 and messages and warnings just get in the way of actually doing something.
the reason isnt FAT32, its the formatted size and only the formatted size. You can format with Fat32 8gb and it *will not work* , format it with fat32 2gb and it works.
On my ASUS, I loaded it up and it just said image file not detected and there was no cursor or anything, I tried closing it and reopening it but it wouldn’t work. Eventually I press alt + f4 and it worked.

You save me😍😍 Thank you very much.
Thanks! Needed this
As far as I can tell I have done everything right. I have watched many other videos, read lots of forums, and it just will not detect the image file. Unless ASRock has the wrong file on their website for my specific motherboard then I'm not sure what is wrong. Any ideas?
did you figure it out im having the same problem
pls
After doing everything just like you did it said invalid file after I tried to install it. Pls send help been struggling with blue screen errors and nothing seems to help... :(
Thanks. You are the real big boy.
Just press Win+B for 1 min exacly while turing on. This will solve this issue.
Thanks, great video!
I'm getting it now on a Z590 Steel legend BIOS 1.80 keeps saying invalid file.
the reason isnt FAT32, its the formatted size and only the formatted size. You can format with Fat32 8gb and it *will not work* , format it with fat32 2gb and it works.
thank you so much you were a big help
On my ASUS, I loaded it up and it just said image file not detected and there was no cursor or anything, I tried closing it and reopening it but it wouldn’t work. Eventually I press alt + f4 and it worked.
good thank you 고마워요 큰도움이 돼었어요
