Great video, as per your usual. Have you ever had patients report benefit to neuropathic pain from MS with alpha lipoic acid. I've not had good success in my clinic personally.
I've had mixed results. I think it is reasonable to attempt it if someone does not want to take prescription medication for neuropathic pain. Of course, for some people, it doesn't work, and they end up taking a drug. I'm agnostic as to whether R-alpha lipoic acid at a higher dose is superior.
Thank you for doing this and taking the time to help us learn. It means a lot! Wish there were good supplements, but they usually seem to be snake oil.
I wouldn't say they're all snake-oil though. There is some evidence for alpha lipoic acid for instance and other supplements. I think the manufacturers are incentivized to hit a certain price point rather than include the most evidence-based ingredients.
Brandon, you were no doubt lucky the lidocaine trickled down one of your bipeds and not down your midleg. In any case, it's nice you were a thorough resident and topped up your patients pain management dosing - was the lidocaine dose insufficiency another case of hitting a price point rather than targeting patient quality of experience.
Love your lidocaine mishap story! Made me smile 😃 Do you think a pain specialist could help? I dont like feeling of drugs, being "out of it" but the pain is just a lot tbh and would like some help in this area. The beautiful Terri Garr passed away. She suffered a long time 😢
Is it 300 mg of alpha-lipoic acid too little in MS cases ? I am using that ammount every day and I am feeling much better than before ALA ? My major problem with that disease is neuropathy...

Typically, and lumbar puncture would not affect walking except in the very rare event of a complication such as an epidural hematoma. This definitely is not an expected effect.
I really want to know what is the last product in the video??!! Without looking like you promote that company, but those ingredients is something I want to try. I myself have some trouble with neuropathy due to ms symptoms.
THC words pretty well. I'd recommend edibles over smoking, and you must be in a state where it is legal for recreational or medical use. Do not drive under the influence either. I'm a lighweight: 5mg edible is enough for me to feel the effects. I've stopped using it as it get pretty bad nighttime dry mouth. I like your lidocaine story. 🤣 I'm starting to get interested in alpha lipoic acid. I'm surprised the -R chirality version is biologically active. I thought most stuff in human life is -L chirality based.
More of a UA-cam add that they show. The "dr" claims one of these drugs, Gabapentin or Baclofin can lead to foot amputation I don't remember right now. I think he is in a different add pushing something else so I don't give it much credit, just click bait. Is this add even based on any truth?
There is no basis to the claim that gabapentin or baclofen could lead to amputation. Of course, poorly controlled diabetes can cause vascular insufficiency to the foot which can lead to gangrene or other problems which could necessitate amputation.

Hi @DrBrandonBeaber and @AaronBosterMD so appreciate you both! I was wondering what you thought of Lipoic Acid for reducing brain atrophy? 😊
is this safe for a ckd person

What are your thoughts on peptides such as BPC-157 which some say help with MS?
I’d be interested in your thoughts on supplements for MS cognitive issues. The only one I’ve found where a small RCT was done is Mind Lab Pro.

:) I will always remember that lidocaine story.
Thank you Dr Beaber, great video! What do you think about ALA for reducing brain atrophy?
What about magnesium glycinate for Ms nerve pain ?
I'm not aware for specific evidence for this. Magnesium supplements have been used for muscle spasms in MS.
great presentation. Have you looked at N-Acetylglucosamine for pain & myelin repair?
Would like to know as well 🤔🧐🧡

My major problem with that disease is neuropathy...
My neurologist recommended that I take 600mg 2x a day (1200mg) which I believe is a dose used in a clinical study with people with MS.
@kevinwwfg i don't know ....we need to wait dr. Beaber ti answer but 1200 mg should be much, much better than 300 in my case....
And that thing is soooooooo expensive....15 euro for 30 tablets for a month usage of 300 mg for someone that doesn't have any income is so expensive.
@@kevinwwfg This is the dose I typically recommend, but there isn't much research in MS.
Could you do a review/video regarding supplement NEUROASPIS which is used for MS.

Sorry. I don't want to post it here, but you can search the ingredients if you want.

I have been taking Nervive for a while and I think it helps me but I have have a lot of on/off symptoms
Since your video I have stopped and will test if I feel anything different, like you said maybe it’s not worth it
Thanks, how about foot chronic pain with MS, Myelopathy and perhaps neuropathy - not diabetic.😮
