My partner had a stroke and now has hemi-paresis on the right side of the body. We have made a huge amount of progress and he's walking and using the right hand more, but when we walk, after a while, he ends up leaning the upper body to the left to avoid stepping on his right foot. Today, I had him just lean against a wall with his right shoulder to get more weight on the right hand side leg. He was able to relax because we did it in a doorway and he had no worries to fall over. He was just leaning for about 5 minutes to get familiar with the stance. When we went for a walk today, he was able to self correct and increase the length of the stride on his left leg and had walked "correctly" for the first time!
Thank you so much for sharing your videos and knowledge. It has helped me so much to help him. ❤🎉
❤ love this info ty for sharing im going to try it out this week 😊
After 7 years I've just achieved standing on my weak leg and doing leg swings out to the side without the feeling of falling over. Never give up.
OMG, YES!!! Please keep posting this. So many people in this community are told progress isn't possible after 2 years. You will remind them that this is not true!! Thank you for sharing!
Awesome so happy for you
Great video. I will add some of these to my toolbox. I just want to say to everyone, keep fighting and never give give up! Make a plan and set some goals and try to find something that you enjoy. That can help with the mental part of recovery. Having a positive attitude can really help with recovery. The body follows the mind. It's a marathon, not a race. Take care!
kicknow...recovery?? 35 plus ppms. you recover from cold..not ms
@@scores718 I had a Hemorrhagic stroke 2 years ago. I'm speaking about my journey and speaking to others on a similar journey.

Yes! 🙌 You are soooo valuable to this community! I hope you have a great week!
@@rehabhqofficial Thank You. I appreciate it.
I am a board-licensed PT. I am getting to see this technique for the first time. I will try it on my patients that have impaired mobility after CVA.
Not recommended for pusher syndrome :)
I wish I could have you here in person to help me. Really appreciate you
Thanks for watching! I am so glad these videos are helping you!
exactly she is awesome
I am 74 years old (writing this in early January 2025). I have not had a stroke but, due to illness, injury, & structural spine issues, have impaired walking. The left leg is weak, left foot /ankle also is weak & has spasticity. Your videos offer knowledge, techniques, & hope. Many thanks for your work, research, and creativity in spreading good news.
I kind of feel guilty when i just sit and watch TV. Got too much to do with all of these tools and techniques. If you arentv"members," you should be. Mountains of gold nuggets inside. Thanks, Dr. Tara! You're the best.
Good ideas from a little study. I have limited stand time on the involved leg and a sore cane-hand on the stronger side. I’ll have to give this a try.
Interesting concept. Thanks for sharing this research with us. Btw, I was in Boca raton in August. I should’ve visited your clinic for assessment and revamp my HEP. But, too late now.
Good ideas! I'm going to try this. 😊 thank you
Thanks again Tara
Thank you! ❤
Great to see you this week Josephine! I hope it helps!
@@rehabhqofficial to be honest, I appreciate you.

You are so helpful ❤❤
This is excellent advice.
Thanks for watching! I hope it helps!
Oh, it definitely does, believe me, 👍
Gold!!
Sooooooo many difficulties with studies on neuro patients. I (PT, NCS) have always utilized a "resist"/PNF-style facilitation vs "assist"/NDT-style facilitation based on many factors. I find that primarily you need to observe patient reactions as certain people react more positively to one type of facilitation vs the other. The other big factor is HOW you apply these types of facilitation. If you go hard/fast with resistive facilitation you'll get more reaction than slow resistance. And with "assistive" facilitation, you'll generally get more positive response with that lighter touch. So, as always, "it depends." With neuro studies, it so very much depends on the therapist. I guarantee that my hands with 18 years experience will get better results with either facilitation methods vs a new grad's. But still, it's good to see some studies exploring this concept more. It certainly validates my perceived clinical outcomes.
Can you share the study please for reading it?
very helpful. makes me want to try walking on sidehill
This technique is used in strength and conditioning to often help persons correct hip shifting. The exaggeration helps the brain-body connection correct improper technique
Hi. The involved leg does it have to be straight or slightly bent? Thank you
This is great. Thank you. Do you have a link where we can purchase the bands to clip on to something? I have access to a ballet bar at my church I can use. Thank you!
Thanks for watching and for the questions. I just added them to the description :)
I hold my dogs leash on my affected side and he runs and pulls on that side. I think that may work similarly
Be safe 😊
Is walking carrying a weight with your unaffected side hand as effective? Thanks for your advise. Rgds
Psychological reactions to an outside force. I will try this
Does it come from our core ?
This video has confused me as to what I need to do to make this effective for my affected leg. Please edit
My effected leg not lift 90 degree please tell me exercise peralise petiont
I right leg suddenly bending problems
👍
Involved and uninvolved? Explain at the beginning.
Involved mean affected leg
My husband had a stroke 6 months ago and we’ve tried to watch the videos, but there’s way too much standing around explaining and we lose interest
You can change the playback speed
I bookmark videos that may be useful to us, and watch them when convenient. I then show my husband what has been suggested, and we take it from there. Little and often may be the order of the day.
We have a morning routine for exercises after showering. The number of exercises do build up over time, so you pick and choose, and leave some for another day. You can't do everything all at once.
This is excellent, after one precticemy step almost I Stanly improved, yhank you Dr tTobias. A few more days prwctice. Suspect 98.9% better
