My partner had a stroke and now has hemi-paresis on the right side of the body. We have made a huge amount of progress and he's walking and using the right hand more, but when we walk, after a while, he ends up leaning the upper body to the left to avoid stepping on his right foot. Today, I had him just lean against a wall with his right shoulder to get more weight on the right hand side leg. He was able to relax because we did it in a doorway and he had no worries to fall over. He was just leaning for about 5 minutes to get familiar with the stance. When we went for a walk today, he was able to self correct and increase the length of the stride on his left leg and had walked "correctly" for the first time!
Thank you so much for sharing your videos and knowledge. It has helped me so much to help him. ❤🎉

After 7 years I've just achieved standing on my weak leg and doing leg swings out to the side without the feeling of falling over. Never give up.

Great video. I will add some of these to my toolbox. I just want to say to everyone, keep fighting and never give give up! Make a plan and set some goals and try to find something that you enjoy. That can help with the mental part of recovery. Having a positive attitude can really help with recovery. The body follows the mind. It's a marathon, not a race. Take care!

I am 74 years old (writing this in early January 2025). I have not had a stroke but, due to illness, injury, & structural spine issues, have impaired walking. The left leg is weak, left foot /ankle also is weak & has spasticity. Your videos offer knowledge, techniques, & hope. Many thanks for your work, research, and creativity in spreading good news.

I kind of feel guilty when i just sit and watch TV. Got too much to do with all of these tools and techniques. If you arentv"members," you should be. Mountains of gold nuggets inside. Thanks, Dr. Tara! You're the best.

Good ideas from a little study. I have limited stand time on the involved leg and a sore cane-hand on the stronger side. I’ll have to give this a try.

Sooooooo many difficulties with studies on neuro patients. I (PT, NCS) have always utilized a "resist"/PNF-style facilitation vs "assist"/NDT-style facilitation based on many factors. I find that primarily you need to observe patient reactions as certain people react more positively to one type of facilitation vs the other. The other big factor is HOW you apply these types of facilitation. If you go hard/fast with resistive facilitation you'll get more reaction than slow resistance. And with "assistive" facilitation, you'll generally get more positive response with that lighter touch. So, as always, "it depends." With neuro studies, it so very much depends on the therapist. I guarantee that my hands with 18 years experience will get better results with either facilitation methods vs a new grad's. But still, it's good to see some studies exploring this concept more. It certainly validates my perceived clinical outcomes.

I bookmark videos that may be useful to us, and watch them when convenient. I then show my husband what has been suggested, and we take it from there. Little and often may be the order of the day.
We have a morning routine for exercises after showering. The number of exercises do build up over time, so you pick and choose, and leave some for another day. You can't do everything all at once.
