    Notes: the SLOG3 conversion (node 4 in this video) should be at the end but in this case I find it’s sort of better to grade after the slog conversion.
    The (first node) CST from rec709 to SLOG3 should be first. Why? Because you’re editing the exposure in the slog3 colourspace if it was last at this point you’d be always editing in rec.709 and the first CST will be for nothing.

    As always man this is legite! Love the points that you make from a film makers standpoint. I have a quesiton. I just ordered my 14 pro max and Im wondering what does the 1080p pro res look like? Would it possibly look more natural than the super sharp 4k prores out of the 14 pro? Thanks for your input!

    • @VictorLaforteza

      1080p seems more natural but you do lose out some details. Not a big deal since the oversharpening on 4k is a bit much!

    Dude.. this was so awesome! Simple to the point! no opening boxes no making coffee!!! not even playing with "blades"! 😂 right to the action! love it! Quick question, (actually 2!). In your first node... you did your CST: footage comes out of Iphone as Proress raw... then in davinci you convert to A)709 then B) Sony Slog3 ... then before you go to 'balance" you go to the Node you named 'Slog" and convert that using a 'LUT"... so the question is: why did you place that Node before the 4 previous ones... looking at the connection between them, the changes in the "slog"node is not visible when you start working in "balance" and the other 3 coming after... It threw me off because I would had place the "Slog" node before the "balance" one.. can you please kindly explain why? and 2: Do you have a davinci specific protocol or steps you create or follow when color correcting and grading as a video on YT..? if so I'd love to see it. and if you don't... 🤔 I think you should make one! 😂 Thanks in advance mate! Great work! Just sub!

      Apple never provides ProRes RAW.. just a ProRes file. (Bummer I know) which just makes your footage have more data and a bit more flexible in post. ProRes RAW is like miles ahead vs normal ProRes.
      So the standard workflow for LOG footage you always need to make your adjustments before the conversion to rec.709. So in this case we did rec.709 (apple prores iPhone footage) to SLOG3 > adjustments > Conversion back to rec.709. Kinda weird but it’s how I’m kinda used to. The 2nd conversion (node 4) should technically be moved to be the last node as the conversion should always be last as good practice. Why? Because you’re editing in the most flexible range of the footage. Let’s just say rec.709 restricts the files into 10 colours and LOG footage has 50 colours so editing in that color space gives you better latitude!
      Why node 4 this time? Well I find trying to create a look and using effects with this workflow is better after the conversion. We’re just tricking the iPhone footage to slog3 because it’s what I’m used to editing. You can easily skip this and get to colour grading right away! Now idk why the slog3 conversion node was unattached so I just corrected at the end! It should be one straight line. There should be different ways to structure your nodes but I like keeping it simple to one straight line.
      For the standard workflow, I learned through blackmagic resolve free training on their website :) might make a crash course video but they explain everything there super clear and easy to follow!
      I hope that all makes sense! feel free to ask more question if you have any :)

  • @txerkys
    @txerkys Рік тому

    Great video dude, but why the green tint y every shot? Why you think to shift the tint is more cinematic? Another great idea instead of blur is to lower the Midtone

    • @VictorLaforteza
      @VictorLaforteza  Рік тому +1

      I just personally like it. You can colour grade howevery you want on your videos :) I also designed my film LUT to be more magenta for a neutral tone and I bring back the greens to it sometimes a bit more than usual to suit my taste lol. I'd have to try lowering the midtones for the sharpness.

    • @txerkys
      @txerkys Рік тому

      @@VictorLaforteza i allways think that if you try to "flatten" the image its even better for non professional cameras, lower midtone, and do not use much contrast and saturation because by default the consumer products try to over sharpen, contrast and saturate the images, and for me thats de videoish way. (Of course if yo are in a Red camera, lets the contrast begin)

      @@VictorLaforteza Ok, question 2, I watched the entire video & don't want to purchase another Lut, I want work with what I have. I shoot on Iphone 14 pro max Filmic Pro Log V3 profile, you know with the milky desaturated look. what do I enter in my CST node? what do I put in the Gamma input & output and cst input & output? Lastly, you kinda had a ton of serial nodes & not once did you address skin tones, something that slightly advanced filmmakers will have to face. I was epecting to see some parallel or layer nodes to kinda isolate the skintones from the rest of the nodes.I also see folks using 2 CST nodes too: one in the beginning & one at the end, you only used one, why? A detailed answer to all of these would be appreciated, thanks.
