Its dumb to call these retro or vintage. Sounds like an 80 year old man. These consoles are from 6th generation of videogames, we are in 9th generation right now with ps5 and xbox series x/s. So this console technologically is still young considering it can do 1080i natively.

Wd-40 will rip through that old thermal paste with little to no effort, Then you can go back over it with 99% ipa. Works great, I had to work to hard with 99% alone.
You're lucky you didn't destroy the gpu, tearing the heatsink off like that when it was cool. You need to use a heat gun or let the xbox idle for about 10 minutes before attempting to remove them. I've seen plenty of people rip the top half of the die doing exactly what you did. GooGone would've made your life easier when removing the old paste. It wipes right off after letting it sit for a few minutes. I also like to use a Magic Eraser on the exterior plastics, except for the led bezel. It gives it an almost brand new finish if you don't scrub too hard. Good video though. I just don't want others thinking you can rip the heatsinks off while it's cool, and expect to have the luck you did.

Not that there was a way for em to get dirty, but it's kinda cool that the really long bolts were still pristine. Most products that old screws and stuff are corroded and rusted from time passed. Those were just as shiny as the day they were put in
