A few months back I took a deep dive into Daikin, from what I gathered and I'm only going by memory, they were bought out by a big conglomerate and the 1st thing they did was modernize their plants and put in more and better quality control and better quality parts. My current system is getting long in the tooth at 35yrs. so I want to research while I can and not be forced into a decision. From what I understand is that the installation is as important if not more important, so I got to look into contractors in my area also. Informative series you have here and helping homeowners is great!

I live in CA. I just had a 16 seer 3 ton Daikin package unit installed about a month ago.. I've been very very happy so far.. I had never heard of Daikin before, but when my contractor compared warranties between the Daikin and my other option Lennox.. It was an easy choice. You're right about the goodman vs. amana - at least as of 2023, guy who is working up a quote for me said the heat exchanger on goodman is aluminized steel, and on amana, it's 409 stainless.
I'm an Amana dealer. Ive worked on goodman a lot. My previous company installed daikin. Ive seen zero issues with Amana so far. I love it. I find it very very reliable!

@@tylermyer1180 i have no complaints with the daikin fit. The fit is super quiet! And its extremely efficient. The fit is a new product line for daikin that came in 2019 or 2018. I think 2019 though. So that particular line from daikin is new here. They've used it in Europe for like 50 years. But id pick the daikin over goodman or carrier for sure. My experience with the daikin fit is good. Only issue is due to it being so new to the US, not a lot of companies know how to work on it unless they're a daikin dealer or worked for one.
Goodman & Daikin all I used, no complaints yet.
Goodman also is well supported with parts availability and they are now based in Texas. Daikin dealers have said the Goodman brand has been upgraded by Daikin to be the most supported brand in parts and serviceability. Goodman tends to be the Chevy Small Block in HVAC now a days.

Just had a ductless unit installed in my sun room that is always a good deal hotter or colder than the rest of the house even though it is ducted. Too much heat gain/loss through the window glass on 3 walls. Looking forward to more comfort in summer and winter

I had bought an Amana PTAC for my sunroom. It had a defective control board out of the box. Quality control needs some help but the parts were covered by warranty. The old still working Amana was over 20 years old and still worked, we only threw it out since it was severely moldy.
I found as home owner the difference in AC units is quietness. Same SEER higher priced for quieter.
Other manufacturers also have a "refnet" type system. Toshiba Carrier, Carrier and Bryant. Where you can mix ducted units and non ducted units.

I bought 2 Goodman package heat pumps 1 lasted 21 yrs all original parts except for a fan delay circuit board. Install especially with a sit system installation exact freon charge matters for any brand. Thermostat temp in extreme cold an hot has right much to do life of any brand.

I have had two 5 ton units, 80% efficiency furnace/air handlers, Aspen A Coils. At 13 years and going strong. Very happy. Installed in the Las Vegas Market. Amana backed a couple warranty issues in the 1st 10 years (bad condenser fan motor, bad controller board installed in Furnace/Air Handler.

Great info, we just had a recommendation on a daikin dx16sa024 because the warranty is best unlike any-other and I was looking here to compare
12 year parts warranty and a six year unit replacement warranty. If you go on up to the DX17, you will get a 12 year parts warranty and a 12 year unit replacement warranty. Plus it will be an inverter system. FYI 🙂

@@pencilcase222 Get a proper heat load calculation for sizing and the rebates are usually only offered to Daikin Comfort Pros.(I think)

I believe the Goodman DSXC two speed condensing units come with a lifetime compressor warranty because that equipment comes with pressure control switches and a suction line accumulator. I had those switches and accumulator on my previous Lennox unit and the compressor lasted 27 years.

Daikin is the bomb, had mine 2.5 yrs now inverter system with multi speed furnace ( not a HVAC person so my knowledge and language might suck) and it trips me out cuz it might be running most the day but will run super low speeds to maintain temp and save so much money now !! Idk the size of inverter or furnace but my house is almost exactly 1,500 sqft and very old, 1938 model. Biggest complaint is because of the age of the house my 2 inlets on ceiling where filters go get dirty pretty fast !! I’m changing filters every 2-3 weeks now. So if you live in a old house with a daikin be ready to spend money on some filters !! Lol
You should check out a whole house home filter where are the media last longer but the Merv rating is still pretty high

Having a 3.5 ton Goodman a/c installed Thursday. The installer has been around for years and has a good reputation so hopefully I won't have the problems some have had with the brand. I know several who has Goodman units and are pleased. Time will tell.......

I have an Amana residential unit and after ten or eleven years it's still doing great. Just change the filter every year no service calls or service contract needed.
Do you mean a filter in the Amana unit or air returns in our house?
Currently I have a 13 year old Trane Package rooftop considering a replacement in Phoenix. July and August requires a Freon boost every year. Costco- Lennox/Sams Club and a few others offer spring/fall specials and a rebate from my Utility Co. I am liking what I hear about Daikin 12 year warranty. Is there a cost for this warranty? or is this included with the price? I may forgo the spring/fall offers and purchase now for better installation by the contractor, no rush or no shortcuts due to the increased workload in March/April/May/June etc
You definitely have the right thinking. Daikin does not charge anything for their 12 year parts warranty on their systems. They just require it to be registered within 90 days of installation. I would consider cutting out those big box stores. All they are doing is adding markup. Call a good reputable contractor that’s local. The better you know your company, the better your experience will be.
Have you installed the Goodman GSXC18 yet? Thoughts? Looking into upgrading my hvac system. Have a 3 ton now and looking into purchasing a 4 ton. Hi Juan. I've never installed that exact model, but I've installed a bunch of the Daikin two stage 18s and love them.
Be careful oversizing your system. Living near the water like we do means humidity is always our enemy in the Summer. Have a contractor do a heat load calculation even if you have to pay for it. It might be worth it.
I built my own house and had an Amana system installed, 4-5 years after installation, the evap coil was leaking and had to be replaced, cost me a lot of money under warranty. To get the ten year warranty, you have to register the unit within 60 days, if you miss the 60 days there is only a 5 year warranty. Amana/ Goodman plan it this way knowing a percentage of people don't know about the 60 day time limit or in my case, I was too busy building my house.
I'm with you pal. Some brands are doing away with this registration requirement which is a step in the right direction.

Just found this out. My home is about 10 years old and came with the Goodman gas furnace. You’re absolutely right about homeowners not given the reminder, or knowing of registering the appliances in time.
@@mateo85tx really depends on installer. The one that did mine was very unreliable. My friend that lives in the same house with same builders. The HVAC guy that did my place didn’t install his gas fireplace right. He caused the water line to my friends place to break causing a big flood. Somehow when the fireplace was being used it caused the line to break. The installer should’ve known.

I just had a system installed, 2.5 ton outdoor heat pump, ASZ140301KD and indoor air handler, ASPT35B14AB. The installer is a very good friend. When I first asked him about this, he said he works with GOODMAN.
When the installation was complete, I noted the air handler had a DAIKIN label and model number. The outdoor unit, had an AMANA badge on it, but the data panel, said DAIKIN. Nowhere on either part, did it say GOODMAN. I understand that Daikin owns Goodman, and I'm told the Daikin and Goodman models are identical and have the same model numbers. I assume the Amana models, are also the same.

@@len9518 if they are an AHRI match, and the right seer for what you purchased, I would not worry about it. I have ordered carrier equipment with the same happening. Ordering one brand and it show up with another label on it.
@@NewHVACGuide I was not worried by it. I just thought it was somewhat odd, having 3 names for the same item. May I assume that if the model numbers match, they are identical. I also just learned that Daikin owns Amana, as well, and that the only difference is the warranty. My previous heat pump was badged as Frigidaire, but panel label, said Nordyne, so I've seen it before. Thanks again.
Is 14-16 SEER rated Goodman AC rebranded Daikin or vice versa? How about standard efficiency furnaces? What about differences in coil material and construction Goodman vs Daiken on entry level models?
Assuming a competent installer, for a homeo what is the real difference between Daiken and Goodman in terms of construction, engineering, materials?, I.e. not talking about inverter/high end models?
So basically what I'm reading and hearing from here and elsewhere is that Goodman and Amana are pretty much exactly the same with their overlapping models. So Amana has a few higher-end models and a bit better warranty - thus the higher cost - but other than that, their overlapping models have similar product numbers go Goodman and are practically the same except for the paint, label and warranty details?
Some products the answer is yes. Amana has better warranties and better heat exchangers though.
Warranties are good, but no failures is better.
And having both is best!
We have an amana going in tomorrow with a lifetime heat exchanger warranty and compressor warranty with a new 10yr once it goes in

I haven't had to deal with them yet. That said, as with all brands, I recommend having a pro install your system
Please be aware that AMANA has the best warranty of all three...Lifetime Unit Replacement vs 12 Year Unit Replacement with Daikin. Only advantage Daikin has currently is the Daikin Fit line, which I am sure will be introduced in the Amana line, soon. Inverter technology is the future and both have a true 18 and 20 SEER unit. So at the end of the day, Amana is exactly the same as Daikin, but with a better warranty

Daikin 12 year is for unitary and most ductless...Amana lifetime can be applied to the compressor, not on the entire unit, or other parts...heat exchanger is always lifetime across all brands
@@TheInfamousBiddy Amana is for the entire unit,. Daikin unitary is 12 years all parts, and if the compressor goes bad within12 years you get a new one . If the compressor goes bad after 12 years, you get nothing. Amana is 10 parts and lifetime UNIT replacement if the compressor goes bad, as long as you own the home (same as Daikin Unitary) were the equipment was registered you will get a NEW unit for LIFE - therefore this is the best warranty in the industry. This is on 16 SEER and up. 14 SEER is 2 year replacement if compressor goes bad.
The Amana “lifetime” warranty is only as long as “you or your spouse” continue to live in the house at which the unit was originally installed.
@@leongary4301 I'm waiting on a quote for a furnace and A/C pair (Amana). That warranty (spouse or me) is certainly all I'd expect. if the furnace is old, no matter what the warranty is, and you go to sell the house, it will be noted on the disclosure and just like an old roof, people won't want it.
My current furnace (sears) is 40 years old and my A/C is 50. the reason the warranty is fine with me is I have more concern about replacing two units that could maybe last another 10 years (no problem with either other than the A/C is a power pig and needs an expensive recharge) with a new unit pair that has exchange problems in 10 or 12 years or a basket case A/C.
I live in Louisiana and am replacing our entire system including ductwork. 1800sq. for house. Looking at 2 stage or variable units and am down to Amana and American Standard. Both good contractors. What say you?
I think both are at the top of my list. Amana is a Daikin product and American Standard is the same as Trane. I don’t think you could go wrong either way. Amana has a little bit better warranty. American Standard has the spine fin coil. Both have their upsides.
And if you really want to know what I think, do your homework on an inverter system before spending that kind of money. They may just be a little bit more money but be well worth it
@ Trevor - I'm in Louisiana too and replaced my entire system (Amana 18 SEER) and duct work with R8 duct work. By doing this my load calculation dictated that I could go down a half ton for the system. HVAC contractor was great start to finish!

Grandaire is one of the many ICP brands which have a decent reputation.
I just had a brand new Goodman AC installed including the air handler so a complete system and it failed from day one. Never cooled. At this point I'm not sure what happen. I'm waiting on them to send a tech to find out what the problem is. One thing to note here is that the tech didn't stay to see if everything was working properly. He turned the unit on, said it was working and left. No temperature checks or anything. And then of course it failed. It really makes me think he knew it was a bad unit or a bad install and didn't want to deal with it but at this point I don't know. I'm hoping they send a different tech to fix what ever the problem is.
That definitely sounds odd. Might be a good idea to request a more senior technician from the company you are using. In their defense, things happen. However, he definitely should be making sure everything is perfect before leaving an install start up.
I guess you can say that Goodman and some of the other lower end brands are notorious for being installed by low quality techs a lot of the time.
What was the issue with the unit they installed ? Did they ever find the problem.
It looks like Daikin, Goodman, and Amana do share a common design on some of the condensing units and furnaces. It looks like Goodman also makes Franklin and they also use to make Janitrol. I assume the Janitrol line has been retired since I haven’t seen it in many years.
I’ve never heard of Franklin. Goodman makes private label products too. So the opportunity for lots of names is there. And you’re correct on Janitrol. They stopped making them. They were named Janitrol before Mr. Goodman bought it.
Janitrol has been retired for a long time. Franklin is a private label brand reserved for high end dealers. You can compare Franklin to Amana, but sets you apart as a contractor, offering a name more exclusive
I ran across Franklin as well and is a Goodman. Also a DirectComfort on one of the online hvac places. I guess like ICP making AirQuest for those streams of business
I know this video is 2 yrs old but i have a question. As i peruse the Amana site i noticed that All their AC units are exactly the same as the Goodman units with the exception of one which is obviously a Daikin Fit! This begs the questions: Has Amana dropped to “builders grade”, has Goodman risen to mid tier or are both brands sharing the same line and selling split tier offerings (builder’s grade and mid tier)!
From what i can see, it seems that Amana is not a step up from Goodman, as you suggested (tho a lot changes over 2 yrs), and that both lines have merged! Heck, even the model numbers are the same with the exception of Amana using an “A” for it’s first digit and Goodman using a “G”!
Is this the case or am i missing something?
Some of the equipment does crossover. But some of the equipment will have upgrades based on which brand they’re installing it in. For example, the Amana S series is very very very similar to the fit, but does not use the Daikin 1 thermostat. Other examples might be the compressor that is installed in the system or the warranty that it carries. Me personally, I think Goodman has made strides on becoming a higher end brand than it used to be. They even have communicating technology on some of the systems now. Most other “builder grade” brands fall short of that.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't they (Goodman) have a very big quality issue with their "microchannel" technology used to manufacture their condensers? Leaks galore...Yeah good warranty BUT who needs the hassle of making a warranty claim in the middle of a hot summer? I still see HVAC videos here on YT whereby they're complaining about this one reliability issue. Or was all this pre-Daiken?
I don't remember Microchannel ever being a Goodman or Daikin thing. You have them confused with the companies that did micro channel like York, Nordyne, or Lennox.

I don’t live near those areas and cannot recommend anyone unfortunately. I’d recommend contacting the manufacturer for the supplies you need and they should be able to direct you to your local suppliers
The contractor I’m thinking about is saying his supplier is out of Amana furnaces but he can put in a Goodman furnace with a Amana ac would this be alright, I see the Goodman is cheaper and the warranty is not as good, however his bid price did not change , is he trying to sell me cheaper equipment to make a little more?
Possibly. But there is equipment shortages right now. Ask for an AHRI certificate for the equipment he’s trying to install. The extra warranty might be worth waiting on the better furnace. Do not allow installation if he can’t supply an AHRI certificate.

Not had good experience with Daikin furnaces. Had lots of board, burner and heat exchanger failures.

Aren't Amana and Daiken parts exactly the same? Even Goodman may have the exact same parts now right?
There are some parts such as air the lower end air handlers where that is true. But not all.
Some brands are the exact same products with different labels. For example: Carrier/Bryant same, Trane/American Standard same, Rheem/Ruud same
Where as, Daikin has several products that are completely different from Amana like the Fit and VRV life. Now that could change of course.

@@LayneRoxxx yes on the overlapping units. I'm not as famaliar with Amana's lineup as Daikin's. Do you have someone selling you Amana? Perhaps they can tell you?
As a commercial service tech, personally my favorites are Trane and Mitsubishi. Goodman isn't to bad with their split systems, but the Saturday morning pickup truck installers defiantly isn't helping their reputation, their RTU's are total crap in my opinion. Daikin ductless systems are Ok. Personally I like Mitsu. City Multi stuff more.

@@NewHVACGuide Their all pretty good, the only one I don't like at all are Daikin and York. But if I had to pick a favorite, I would have to say Trane Voyagers, or Lennox Energence.
I’ve had 2 Trane heat pumps and the latest is a Xi 18 with Tam 7 seven air handler and I’ve had nothing but trouble with both the old Seer 14 and the new Seer 18 and I will never ever buy another Trane!!! NEVER. They are not the best at all. They are junk and they cost a fortune. And for the Midwest, anybody that puts in a heat pump is not thinking because it’s too expensive and you need a good old gas furnace, and a simple seer 16 central air conditioning unit. No more heat pumps for me.

i live in Erie,Pennsylvania. yeah its a freezer up here lol. i did h heating and air for about 8 years. My old company sold temp star products. When i would get customers asking what brand to get i would say goodman. they ask why??? i said i do mainly service and only had 5 Goodman in all those years to fix! obviously they dont have many issues.
Interesting. It’s almost opposite here. We order Carrier parts almost daily.
This may sound weird, but can you discuss the Japanese aspect of Daikin? Many people regard products being made in Japan as more reliable and higher quality than the competitors (we see this all the time in the automotive industry), does Daikin make their parts in Japan and are they of a higher quality than the competitors?
I have been putting in carrier for 20 years and find it very reliable but the goodman stuff is fine. I wouldn't recommend a goodman heat pump if you live in a really cold area

@@NewHVACGuide bucks county PA. It is hot and humid here from June to September then we have winter. I think I probably live in the best area for HVAC. Gets hot and cold. I find goodman heatpumps are weak.

daikin needs to do what kia did years ago with their warranty (up'd to 10 year / 100,000 mi) vs carrier/bryant and trane/american standard...as in, daikan needs to offer a multi-year parts AND LABOR warranty. they need to be first to offer a LABOR warranty. why no labor warranty in the hvac business? why? labor should be covered in cases such as the following: my two-year old amana ASX16042 ac unit decided to start leaking at the low pressure switch. this is not a serviceable part (as in, you can't screw the bad switch off and screw a new one in without evacuating the system, torching the old switch off, brazing a new switch on, pulling a vacuum, and then recharging) and is part of the bad design of this unit...as in, OEM problem. why would an ac unit not have a mid to high failure part such as low/high pressure switches, that can be changed out without having to get into the refrigerant? just an $800 repair bill waiting to happen based on current design. $30 part, $770 labor?! total BS and, well, thats what it cost me. a knowledgeable tech came out and actually installed a schrader valve on the low side that the new switch could screw into if it ever goes bad again. daikin could be doing this at the factory. consumers like me are getting screwed. if my honda car breaks within the first 3 years, the problem is covered...parts and labor. these manufacturers need to step up in this area. i would NEVER buy another amana system, even if they are supposedly "good." why? because my first service call for an issue cost me $800 when both the part AND LABOR should have been covered...with both components being charged back to the manufacturer. the only real quantifiable improvement within the industry will only happen if the manufacturers have to start taking it on the chin for costs related their poor designs.
In NJ, I got quoted $8,800 for Amana 16 SEER 2 stage 3 ton, and furnace installed. Is this price good?
Hi Will. Every market is different. So what is good in my market may not be in yours and vice versa. I recommend getting at least three quotes

I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!
how about a quality new unit cost flat out price brand, reasonable parts. and approximately how much is the going rate for replacing the 25 year old. unit. and a brand most people buy and pay. exam. 25 year old town house. we have an 1,800 sq. ft. 2 floors. in pa.

Daikin is the only HVAC from Japan. Mitsubishi doesn’t count because they only make mini spilt

@@NewHVACGuide I'm not in Japan, but I used to live in Thailand where a lot of Japanese Mini Spilt are being installed and familiar with. I used to have 2 vintage Daikins mini spilt as well and they still blow cold air today.

According to a local hvac contractor that went to the daikin factory in Texas, here in eastern PA, told me that they’re really essentially the same unit. The guy says they just slap the brand name on with a different color. How true is this?
Why does Goodman get terrible reviews by Consumer Reports? Every HVAC repair person I've talked to say they have to repair them all the time. I sure would like an opinion from someone that has nothing to gain from their opinion.

Yeah the problem is that Goodman units have cheaper costs and readily available to anyone to install. So there's a lot of more do-it-all handyman installs with these units and thus lot more shitty installs. HVAC systems are different than getting a Stove or Refrigerator --- the HVAC systems comes in parts and have to be put together onsite and tuned properly.
Goodman is trashed regularly by overpricing competitors who don’t like the fact that you can buy Goodman equipment on line or check what each component, condensing unit, coil, valve, furnace or line set would cost if ordered. That is a powerful negotiating tool. I’ve used Goodman and Amana on small multi-family projects with great success. The key is using a competent installer that will do the install job correctly, accurately measure your system needs including understanding existing ductwork, registering your warranty on time (within 60 days) and understanding that if you escalate above the 16 SEER level to communicating and modulating units for “greater efficiency” computerized boards and components are part of the package and they can fail. Lastly, the Amana “lifetime warranty” is great as long as you understand you or your spouse (their word) have to continue to live in the home where the unit was originally installed.
