- This is the first round of MasterChef Season 1 grand finale. Eric Chong and Marida Mohammed compete in a three-course battle for the grand prize and the title of MasterChef.
For the appetizer, Marida makes a pumpkin callaloo soup with a coconut lime crème fraîche, crispy pig tail, and lime pepper sauce, while Eric serves a crispy pork belly with vegetable dumplings and wasabi mayonnaise

As asian kid growing up with asian parents, watching his father and grandfather watching their Eric cook with such a big smile on their face is amazing. That guy is really talented and you can see it when he cooks he's very passionate and talented. No disrespect to his oponent. Asian parents can be very judgemental but those parents were smart enough to recognize true talent and passion
too bad hes got the sad face filter on permanetly. its a huge turn off if i a saw a chef with that face. i'd be thinking, he doesnt enjoy what he does. he should learn how to smile. its really off putting.

Funny How everyone see Alvin is biased towards Eric but Not Claudio towards Marida🤣 I mean he literally Told Tamara in a episode to Not cook Asian everytime but Liked Marida's dishes where most of them are same cuisine and spices
I find Eric to be very impressive he was only 21 years old and can cook very well he's also very receptive and a fast learner and the fact that he had the courage to go after his dream and leaving engineering to do so it's very brave of him
He's my favourite contestant

But him an Kaila both actually learned from their mistakes and those who were trolling him were on the balcony cheering for him😂

It is amazing how their heritages can be seen in their cooking.
Going in to the finale Marida seems so confident that she would win. Think her overconfidence was what made her runner up.

No way. She lost because Eric had the sob story that would sell better. The whole, "I want to change my parents perspective of my career choice and pursue my dream and not slave away in a family traditional choice" sells far better than, "I was a good stay at home mom cook and now I'm gonna be big"

One trick pony Marida came through the finals cooking mostly Indian dishes, and she is Trinidadian, Chef Alvin was right to notice and expose her early in the competition

Eric and Marida seem to have a really nice (or at least decent) relationship, they respect each other and were pretty much equal in terms of skills and talent within their respective cuisines.
It's disgusting how some of the comments resort to bs 'observations' (even racism) towards them both in favour of one or the other😕

"It’s odd to me that eric won. They both got criticized 2 times." My thought on this is because Eric cooked rigorously while Marida cooked relatively safely. They def kept on mentioning how it's really hard to cook crisp pork belly under an hour (and it really is!).
An analogy would be like taking a geography test where you need to list States in the U.S.
Tester 1: listed only the states.
Tester 2: listed both the states and their capitals.
Both testers got 2 questions wrong, but obviously, Tester 2 showed more proficiency in U.S. geography.
If you had to choose a tour guide from seeing just the test results of this geography test. Tester 2 would seem like a better choice, with seemingly more proficiency in the field. (This is just an analogy. Plz don't read too much into it).

I am neutral but i kinda feel like Marida is getting more supports on her side though Eric got less support. I think he should win, his patient, talent every thing pulled of. I also once tried to cook pork belly and it took more than 1 hour and was absolutely gross. Eric pulled it of great
Same. I felt like a lot of people cheered for Marida. I understand why Kaila didn't cheer for Eric. Maybe it's because I feel like Marida was more social and Eric is a bit more reserved imo. Maybe behind the scenes she talked more to others than he did.

I don’t like dale, but I’d have to back Marida. I can’t back Eric. Guy’s so arrogant. He always rolls his eyes when someone gets called up and he doesn’t. Eric reminds me of Natasha from MasterChef US season 4. She was just like Eric (except she didn’t win haha). God, I hate Eric so much. I just don’t like arrogant people, I guess.

Eric somehow always did win in master chef. Like in his auditions how come after he was very disrespectful he got in. And there has been dishes that were good but not better than others and he still won. I believe he was favored.
Eric definitely had the most raw potential of any of the chefs. If he had worked in restaurants since he was 15, he would have been a monster

Chef Claudio has a bit of a reputation across the seasons for being more fond of certain contestants than others, and those contestants are often female contestants. Marida was the first case, I don't know if there's any source out there to confirm if it's true but most people seem to agree that he has the hots for Marida

Some comments here say that Claudio favors Marida because he likes her but being fair Alvin favours Eric too. Some people say that Claudio tends to favour "pretty" girls like Thea from season 4 I think. They say she cried her way to the top and Claudio was lenient on her. Tbh there were prettier girls in that season like Justine or Mai but he liked Thea I guess.
Her soup came out perfect but compare the level of cooking difficulty, she is behind.. So Eric won

Claudio has been very biased from the very beginning of the competition.. Another reason why I stopped watching this show.
Claudio was so obviously biased against Eric...not the best quality to have when judging a competition, the soup compared to all the elements Eric put on the plate, no doubt Eric deserved to win
