If you're into games and/or crpg's, the Fallout games are good, and the show is a fantastic entry point. Sticking to the main games, F1, F2, F3, FNV, and F4 are all good games. They all surely have their flaws (technical, gameplay, and literary) but even the weaker entries have much to commend them.
-F1 is a top-down isometric turn based game, but it has a nice tight and well-written story. An instant classic; you'll immediately be able to tell why it became a franchise.
-F2 is technically similar to F1, but is a gigantic sprawling narrative with a huge map and innumerable side quests. Fallout's first enormous world.
-F3 is the first 3D FPS, and while the main quest I found a bit lackluster, the side quests are absolutely enthralling and more than worth the price of admission. There's a huge map to explore in first person. You really feel like you live in this wasteland.
-FNV is very different from the numbered entries in content but technically very similar to F3, and the wasteland is much more settled and changed ("civilization tries to re-emerge, but war never changes" is the background plot). Very strong story and characters, a welcome addition to the world in my opinion. Survival and crafting elements are also good here. New Vegas is beloved for good reasons.
-F4 has by far the strongest FPS elements of all the games, and has strong crafting and building elements. The main quest is decent and the side quests are quite good. With a few light mods, F4 is my favorite to actually play today. I'm taking a few months off, hoping Bethesda (or modders) will fix a few bugs they created with their "next gen" update ("Bethesda bugs" jokes are not joking, its a thing).
All these games take place in the 220 years between the opening scene of the show and Lucy's introduction (except I think at least part Fallout 4 can happen contemporaneously if you take your time).

Thanks for the breakdowns. Nice to see a description of each game from someone who has actually played them. I actually bought fallout 3 and New Vegas this past week. Currently played like 4 hours of F3 and im loving it so far. Im normally fully into competitive team based games so this is a huge change of pace but definitely a nice one. I can definitely agree with you on the world of F3, its done brilliantly and so far the side quests have been so enjoyable to do I havent even got to the main quest 😂.
