I saw one video where they said when Matt came to try out for the group he had learned the bass part to every song they had done. They invited him to guest tour with them for their Christmas tour and then made him an official member. I was a little skeptical at first, because Avi brought such a unique flavor to the group, but Matt has brought a new energy and his own flavor. Looking forward to PTXmas!😊🎅
They didn't know Matt back then. His a cappella group won a chance to see ptx perform. Ptx was interacting with them in the audience probably more like mentors to those high school kids. Pretty sure Mitch randomly took his sunglasses to wear while singing just to be silly.
This is a gem!! Not many if any reactors do this video so you are the goat! Also just to let you know, they didn't necessarily know Matt prior to him becoming a member. They met him that one time when they were just off of winning the sing off. Ben Bram the arranger for Pentatonix essentially gave Matt notice about an audition, but he did not tell him what he was auditioning for. Matt auditioned and the rest is history. He is truly a Joy. The best fit for this group. Thanks for your reaction! 🙏🏾✌🏾❤️
Take your time, Dave, we're here for it all the way! I hadn't seen this before, but it's been so obvious that along with his obvious talent and skill, he's got such great energy, he's a breath of fresh air. I've fully unofficially adopted this kid, lol
Hey, he is from Maryland, and you don't have to dislike the Ravens if you are an Eagles fan until Super Bowl time of year since - you know - different conferences. Congrats on a 6-0 start. This was really fun to see. I hadn't watched it before. I am definitely a huge Avi fan, but I love Matt and his energy (and his voice). I am glad that he and PTX found each other.
There is a 15-minute fan-made "Beginner's Guide to Pentatonix", made up mostly of very short clips from their videos. It starts by showing some of the best moments for each member, then goes through the group history. I don't think the video clips are long enough to be spoilers, and you might see some you want to react to. It doesn't cover the individuals' histories, but it has a lot of good information. For information on the PTX members, all of them but Matt have Wikipedia pages, and there is also a PTX fandom wiki.
There is a brief group intro in the first Sing-off performance that speaks to forming Pentatonix. There's also a high school video of the trio performing Telephone by Lady Gaga with some of their back story. I'm not sure if Pentacon videos are still available. (yes, Pentaholics had a convention to celebrate with their favorite artists). The fandom is deep and wide. Seems like there is always something new to discover.
There are several ways you could go about getting to know them more. One thing I have been thinking and my friends have said as well is that you probably should do the sing off. Mrduckbear11 you tube channel has all of the sing off shows. It's the accapella competition show that was on NBC. That is where they met Avi and Kevin a day before the audition. There is a list video that came out that was good about Mitch. They only got one thing slightly wrong. Ill try to find it and send it you. The very beginning of the story is that while Scott was in college he met Ben Bram who was the guy in the making of evergreen video. One thing people sort of forget or don't know is that Ed Boyer who is their master mixer now was on the sing off and brought Ben in to arrange for the show. Then Ben told Scott they should do the sing off but they needed a bass and beatboxer. Kevin just so happened to put up a classical piece "Julie O" up on you tube where he was playing the cello and beatboxing. It was going viral when Scott typed in beatboxer. There is more to the story but I will also try to find the link to Scott's podcast where he had Kevin on. It was wild how it all came together.
You have not done that song... for PTX it is actually a mashup - Save The World/Don't You Worry Child Not many reactors have done it, but it's a pretty early video for them; 2014.
I am so glad you did this reaction. I did not know this background and it adds a lot of good vibes to the group. He seems really outgoing and is a great addition.
The parents of pentatonix has been on a panel and his dad joked about him being born ready to mingle becasuse they didn't even make it in to the delivery room. I can't remember totally but I think he was born in the corridor and his dad joked that he entered the world with a big "Hello" and has kept that energy since, haha.
Aww, I've seen very few reactions to this. To use K-pop language, Matt is probably my "bias" in the group and this video is very sweet. I've not even started watching the video, but got so excited I had to comment.
Ok, now Ive watched. They didn't know Matt, they just met him at a show like any other fan. He knew of them and mentioned at the hollywood bowl show recently that he used to listen to ptx when mowing the grass and trying to find a harmony and pretending he was the 6th member. He's literally a former fan living the dream. Ben Bram (ptx arranger) had worked with Matt a bit through different projects (the acapella world is small and Matt was in Pitch Slapped) so he recomended to Matt to audition to this blind call for bass for an acapella group. It was not until a bit in to the audition process he found out it was ptx. I think watching the Sing off through, their tour vlogs ptxperience (they have those for basically all tours except for like... 2016-2017?) and interviews is the best way to get to know them. It's quite an undertaking but personally very worth it and makes me love them more. A favourite interview of mine is very long but very insightful. It's TimesTalk by New York Times where they sit down and explain stuff. I think you'd find it very interesting but I understand that it's a big time commitment and might not work with how you set up your videos. Know that we're totally ok with you splitting it up in multiple parts.
Thank you for telling the true story that Ben Bram is behind them finding Matt. Matt has told this in an online interview but so many people cling on the the fantasy that Avi found Matt and then the rumor keeps spreading through comments. For those who read this far into my response Avi had nothing to do with finding his replacement.
@@hernameispekka_Rebecca Times Talk, a great interview. Watched it too. If only that interviewer showed more enthusiasm lol. The demo they showed kn how they put together their arrangements was amazing
@@bethvargas8841 He just seemed quite chill but asked good questions and led a good conversation, letting the group talk among themselves. I love the whole video, so many great moments!
I had heard that he was called to do an audition, but had no idea for whom…then I heard his sister tell about him calling her during the audition process…all excited saying I’m not sure, but it might be PENTATONIX that I’m auditioning for😳 Just a cool story all around!!! Avi was great, don’t get me wrong…but I think PTX was just a means to an end. With PTX…PTX IS the end! Be as big a superstar individually as you can, but PTX comes 1st….Its worked and continues to work!!! Thank God!!!
I would like to suggest reacting to "Dancing On My Own". It's not one of their more well known songs but it's so beautiful, intricate, and emotional. It is considered the "goodbye Avi" song, as they released it very soon after his announcement to step away from the group.
I love watching this video again. Thanks for reacting to it. I love Matt. He's incredible and he's a perfect fit for Pentatonix. Yes, please react to Pentatonix early mashup "Save The World/Don't You Worry Child". It's one of my favorites. For some fun early videos of Matt singing leads years ago, please check out "Life Is A Highway" and "Ain't Nothin".
Right in between Matt and Avi they did "Dancing on My Own" you should give that one a listen. It does a couple of things for me, Kevin is a freak of musical nature, Matt ans Avi are so important to their full sound. Yes the three are already just stunningly amazing...but I knew that because they are ...# 👽👽👽👽👽
Never saw this. Cool. I think they are like that friend you have that rolls out of bed gorgeous, except they roll out of bed singing. I think they roll out of bed gorgeous also. I think they all were born singing instead of screaming or crying.
Scott, Kirstie and Mitch were a trio that knew each other from high school (Kirstie and Mitch even earlier).. When they were going to try out for the Sign Out they found out that they needed five members to qualify. They found Avi as their base. They didn't add Kevin until the night before they tried out. They just had natural chemistry.
lI love your reactions to PTX, and Aurora...they are both magical in my personal opinion. And I love your channel!! Your voice is so soothing and relaxed. You bring me to your energy andI adore your love for music. You might want to try out Dirty Loops. It is a jazz/pop combo that takes me to another place. I suffer from chronic pain and anything bass heavy, heals my pain. I would love to see you react to their cover of Thriller, and their originals Rock You. They are managed by Michael Jackson's former manager, Quincy Jones. I really hope you know how much I love coming back and listening to you react to my favorite groups and singers. They do a really great rendition of "Can't Sleep Love" in the video of "Pop Spring 2016", plus 2 other original songs, plus an "Evolution of......." song. This was a concert in Japan that, I have read, was professionally filmed by MTV, so the audio is really great & not from a fan phone. Let me just say that I love Avi. He is such an amazing talent. But he is no longer with PTX. Matt may not have the deepest of Avi's notes, but he brings his own beautiful, unique talents & spirit to the group. I had the biggest smile on my face when I heard him sing for the first time in "Sound of Silence". Sooo smooth & creamy (and so handsome, as well!). So can we be happy for Avi? He has a successful solo career in which he can manage his touring schedule to where it will balance with his personal life just the way he would like it to. SO happy for him. Also thankful to him for helping to find Matt for PTX. Matt is such a great fit. A perfect fit. So let's stop being ungrateful, because we will miss out on the truly great thing that we DO have.
Avi did not help find Matt. He had nothing at all to do with finding Matt. That is a false internet rumor that keeps spreading for some reason. Matt auditioned and won his place in the band based upon his talent, experience, work ethic, personality, etc.
I saw one video where they said when Matt came to try out for the group he had learned the bass part to every song they had done.
