An extraordinary Ford Escort Mk2 1300 Popular Plus with 20,635 miles from new.
    EQUIPMENT
All steel integral construction, safety glass all round, anti-burst locks, black window surrounds, black finish driver door mirror, black bumpers, laminated windscreen, two-spoke steering wheel, collapsible steering column, choke control, dipping rear view mirror, full width parcel tray, padded sun visors, two-speed heater and demister, aeroflow ventilation with eye ball vents. Factory options: Heated rear window, inertia reel front seat belts. Dealer fit options: Front and rear mudflaps.
    EXTERIOR
This fabulously nostalgic 1300 Popular Plus is simply divine finished in unassuming and incredibly rare Sahara Beige, (Code 88). Having enjoyed a cosseted life including a recent spell in a Ford Main Dealer showroom the car displays a uniform, highly polished finished worthy of the rosettes included. All panels are straight and display uniform gaps and the plastic chrome window surrounds show slight whiting to the tips. The correct circular Lucus headlamps remain fitted along with the lesser models undamaged black bumpers, door handles and drivers mirror. Upon close scrutiny two minor touched in stone chips can be seen on the bonnet and one to the rear wing. Dealer fitted number plates, mud flaps and rear window sticker are all still present. Perfect for the show season.
    INTERIOR
Charming and utterly exceptional, finished in unmarked Chocolate fabric with matching brown vinyl door cards and spotless black loop pile carpeting. The headlining is tight with no fade and even the rear parcel shelf has a deep black finish thanks to indoor storage and avoidance of sunlight. The fully intact dashboard displays no cracks whatsoever and houses fully functional switchgear, controls and gauges. The Popular Plus script on the facia reminds the owner that there is still one lesser model in the range! The boot area is pristine with the metal floor gleaming and factory markings visible. Often used too liberally, the term ‘time warp’ is unquestionably justified and the incredibly low mileage is thoroughly reflective in the interior presentation.
    ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 1298cc single choke OHV engine is simple, robust, well proven and a home mechanics dream. With 57bhp at 5500rpm a top speed of 88mph and 0-60 in 16.5 seconds is quoted. Amazingly factory stickers are intact and even serviceable items such as the ignition coil and radiator cap display the Motorcraft logo. The strut top chassis stamping is untouched. The four speed all synchromesh gearbox is light, exact and effortless.
    WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Standard 13” styled wheels are shod in new Michelin Energy 55/80 R13 tyres including the spare. Hydraulic dual line brakes incorporating front discs and rear drums bring the car up in a straight line to offer excellent stopping power.
    HISTORY
Registered new on the 29th October 1978 by Ford Main Dealer, TD MacFarlane in Coleraine, Northern Ireland to a Mrs E.Good of Ballycastle Road, Coleraine, this stunning Escort has had just two former keepers from new. In her care for 18 years and used sparingly before being sold to a Mr A Louder on her passing in 1996. As a preferred MG collector the Escort travelled a mere 1,000 miles in his 16 years as the careful custodian. Finally owned by a Mr Cheape and housed in a Ford Main Dealer showroom where it has been on proud display since 2012. A substantial collection of old MOT certificates help trace the incredible low 20,635 miles from new and handbooks are present. The supplying dealer leather key fob is present and ready to be passed to the lucky and discerning new keeper!

THIS was the exact same model & colour of my very first car, bought in 1981 at 4 years old for £1200.

So many memories here...I had a Mk2 Escort 4 door Pop Plus the very same, same colour Sahara Beige PFS216P and it brings a wee tear to my eye's seeing one especially the same colour as the one i used to have, they were very good cars and so simple.
    What a superb find.

No it's called Scottish Blend (see what I did there LOL?). Looks the color of tea when ye put milk in it.
That color would've suited us here in Scotland as we're mad on drinkin tea.

Fords legendary Overhead Valve Kent Engine . Had an unusual firing order of 1243. Not 1342 as in most cars . Learnt to drive in a Daytona Yellow version of this car back in May 1983.

It's a shame Ford or any other manufacturer can't make these old style classic simple designs as part of an anniversary limited edition with all the old school trimmings but with only one modern item in the form of Air Con and just replace the cassette player with a plain radio! No fancy tech required just a modern version of the classic!

Amazing condition! A real blast from the past for me.. My first car was a 1.1 popular. I'm sure it had vinyl seat covering's and rubber instead of carpet. It's original colour was yellow. It was a metallic blue when I bought it in 82.. Crazy how we've moved on in 30 odd years!
A Fiesta titanium with the ecoboost engine sits on the drive now. Lovely car and a delight to drive.
Loving the videos with door slam and the red socks! Cheers.. 👍

In the seventies and eighties not many lower spec cars had radios. That was a luxury for cars mid range and upwards.
