PAINTING THE INTERIOR OF MY MK2 ESCORT WITH RATTLE CANS!

In this video I finish off the last couple of jobs on the inside of my Mk2 Escort in preparation to spray it beige! I firstly removed the last bit of underseal from inside the car and then moved onto tackling the surface rust that had accumulated behind the dash. This was an awkward and cramped task but it needed doing and I put a couple of layers of primer on, to protect it in the future.
I then moved onto welding in the 2 big plates which support the gearbox mount when all bolted up. This bit of welding went really well and I was happy with the end result! Once all of these tasks were complete, I was able to seam seal the whole of the interior which took ages but needed doing!
Onto painting the car, the cans I purchased from Leonard Brooks were a spot on colour match and I was very impressed. The 2 pack paint was easy to spray on with the assistance of their adjustable nozzles which come on all spray cans. The finish I got from these rattle cans was second to none, I have never got anywhere close to this finish before and I'm so glad I achieved this myself.

That's how you do it rattle can the interior and engine bay then if the outside needs doing spray it with a gun 👍 it looks great mate 👍

Great work, I think I would have worn disposable coveralls when removing undercoat, what a messy job, interior starting to look great. Primer is not water proof so moisture will cause rust under it so good you got it sorted. It's not easy having OCD but you're doing a brilliant job. Two thumbs up.

Nice job, Looks a good shell. Sorry to be critical but i would have either have covered or taken the door cards off. Also i watched the engine bay video and they the same as RS2000 top hats which are totally standard which i would have left.
Thank you pal, the door cards weren’t in great condition when I purchased the car, hence why I haven’t removed them. Also with the engine bay I wanted to smooth off certain parts and therefore I decided to blend in the top hats 👍🏻

Great update Mitch. Really coming along nicely now. Beige floor really looks the part. Very impressed with all you have done on the car and it must be very satisfying knowing you have done the graft yourself.
As for the dash, I personally would go black. Nice beige body colour and contrasting black dash, roof, trim etc would look the business in my opinion. Look forward to the next bit of progress 😎👍🏼

Great progress - your excellent preparation will ensure the Mk2 is good for many years to come. What yourself with that 2k, especially in such an enclosed area. I did a bumper in a garage with it and even with a half decent mask and going outside straight after spraying it still left me with a banging headache.

Stunning work there. Definitely peace of mind knowing how solid and well finished the floor is, a credit to you. 👍 Underseal like that is something best left in the 80’s 🤣 People ended up doing the sills, valances then halfway up the door and side of car in that stuff as rust slowly took hold 🤣 Dash wise I’d go standard style black. Think this car as a sort of OEM+ look would be amazing. Steel Ford sports wheels with maybe a bit of extra dish so you almost do a double take to suss if it’s been tweaked 🤔 Anyhow thanks for sharing and absolute top notch project. Regards. Dave 😎😎👍👍

Ayup pal, the floor looks bloody mint mate 👌. Now then, the dashboard colour will look brilliant in beige but, thinking in the real world, I would do the top part satin matt black because you would have awful sun reflection. Think about it mitch..you have a good idea going on there. Great vlog ✌️👍

It’s down to your personal choice of colour 😊it’s your project theirs no harm in spraying it black to see what it looks like with the dashboard in place and if you don’t like it spray it the same colour of your car

Does dvla need to know, do you need an engineers report for insurance?
On the log book it doesn't state wether its LHD or RHD so not sure if I need to inform them. I would assume insurance want to know if its LHD or RHD, luckily for me it's already got 2L engine on the log book 👍🏻
Black the dash or the gloss colour reflects on the windscreen in the sun light, also are you not fitting the anti tramp kit?
Went for beige, can always change it if the glare is terrible! I will be fitting the anti tramp kit but I don't think I'll have enough time before May. It'll be a job for winter 2023 😎

Coming along nice fella, stick a mask on please when you are grinding or using sanding disks etc. Look after those lungs.

Personally I think the dash should be beige, but you will find most Mk2 have a Black dash pos because you can see the gauges better and it does not reflect the light.
