I guess Im asking randomly but does someone know of a method to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly forgot the password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me
@Huxley Rodney I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and Im in the hacking process atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Gaz is probably the best teacher on you tube. If anyone can’t learn from him they are wasting there time and his . If he was my instructor when I was at college back in the 80s I would be one of the best sparks in the world.
I had my testing and inspection test today and failed because I totally forgot about safe isolation. After watching this, I feel confident enough to do my test again, thankyou!
Perfect explanation from a Master Electrician 👏 hope I pass soon, need to practice the pipe bending and learning which pages il need to remember for voltage drop etc, thankyou for all your wonderful Videos, a Massive help.
I work in the nuclear industry, we can't use an mcb to isolate. The air gap isn't big enough, or some shit like that. It's a massive pain in the hoop for everyone having to isolate further back.
Another great video with every details in it that is very important for a safe isolation of supply.Still a problem with disconnection of main supply without the electrical isolator switch....
I've got the same problem but the DNO wants to bend me over for £231.42 to put an isolator in. My consumer unit is ancient, needs replacing and electricians round here won't work on it because there is no way to stop power going to the fuse box, without removing the main fuse - and the DNO has already fined electricians for doing that without their permission. So, I am stuck till the DNO comes out. What amazes me is the complete absence of a video on how to work on a fuse box that doesn't have an isolator, surely if there is a switch it is a no brainer for electricians (the challenge is what to do when there isn't one)!
@@TheChriss45 Yes, it's a problem. The proper way to do it without a switch is to book the DNO to pull the fuse, organise the electrician to do the work at the same time and then book the DNO to replace and reseal the fuse. Can be difficult to organise everyone to turn up at the right time, and if it goes wrong you can be without power for days. Many electricians will pull the fuse, but it's a legal grey area, and if they've been fined by your operator, probably not keen on doing that. To reseal perfectly you need MOCAPA-compliant pliers and tags, with dies in the pliers that match the coding on your existing tag.
I saw exactelly another video the same but in the video the outside double pole switch was not turned off it was off just the main switch in the distribution board.Sorry im a bit confussed so for single phase safe isolation actually we must turn off both main switches or just the main switch inside the distribution board the reason im asking i also do electrical courses and i dont to fail the exam
Gaz, you say 'fortunately' we have a linked main switch in the tails, are there cases where this switch isn't there and it has to be done but other means? Thanks. Josh. Love your vids.
In most cases it isn't there. What you have to do is remove the fuse from the mains supply. Put the fuse in your pocket and keep it there until all work is completed. (so nobody is tempted to return it).
There never used to be a main switch or RCD between the meter and consumer unit. You'd have to contact your utility provider to remove the fuse if yiu wanted to keep everything above board unless it's an emergency.
I heard that some proving units are not suited for use in homes. Something to do with Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and interference. How much of an issue is this? Can this damage equipment etc?
Hello. I have just started learning and got question. Would you prove safe isolation on load or supply side of main switch. Or maybe on load or supply side of isolating circuit? What would be the best practice?
Depends where the device for isolation is positioned. If it’s the remote 100amp switch then it’s the incoming side of the DP switch in the consumer unit. If it the DP switch in the consumer unit then it’s the outgoing side (load). Thanks for commenting and watching. Gaz 👍.
My dad's house doesn't have any switch outside of the box that contains the circuit breakers, just has the red switch inside the unit,is there any other way he could stop the power going to the box or is it just switch off the red switch inside the unit so can change a circuit breaker?
Gary If we have to prove our voltage indicator is working, we then go through the safe isolation we then have to prove that the voltage indicator is working,? Why? This sogests to that voltage indicators are not as good as we might think and that they are not reliable? So why bother buying and using one . Just a thought. Great video as always mate.
Hi have you got a video on how to wire a separate connection to a outbuilding?. so basically one wire goes to house the othe to a shed or out building, thanks
Good video guys. It would be great for you to explain what testers to use and also if an installation doesn't have a double pole isolator on the tails.
+Dans the Engineer Hi. I am going to do the safe isolation again on a single phase consumers unit this time without a remote isolator... maybe next week. All the best and thanks for watching GSH Electrical
Hi. The switch can be used in an emergency and switch off the consumer unit on full load. However if you don’t have to in this case in my video why would the electrician want to break a load of up to 100 amps and the arc this would create when you don’t have to. Hope this makes sense I am shopping with the wife lol.
Sorry Gaz that master lock of clamp is a ridicules idea as as if you finish your work first then you have to wast time waiting for the other trades to finish so you can restore the supply. Silly idea But who am I to argue i’am just a humble spark who’s opinion means nothing Great video as always 👍👍👍👍❤️
I'm studying for my nvq 1 moving through to 3 at the moment. I've gone through the book but with flash player being unsupported now the site the company is on isn't up to date and I can't see how stuff is actually done! So after all that bollocks is said, thanks for the vids, really helping with revision, just need to be able to travel to do practicals and tests haha.. f'ing Covid!
Why don't you use a plug in socket tester that has an audio function?? Best practice in this case would be to use your senses when performing safe isolation, in this case hearing as well as sight! Note - It's best practice to 'Un-load' a consumer unit prior to switching off the supply to the installation and perform safe isolation. This is because many isolation devices are not designed to switch 'On-load', they are only designed to switch 'Off-load' for mechanical maintenance.
Hi. Thanks for commenting and watching the reason we didn’t use an audible plug in voltage indicator as we didn’t have one... poor old college... I have purchased one myself for work and will use in future video presentations. All the best GSH Electrical
Hi. 5.1 Isolation 5.1.1 Requirement Means of isolation should be provided: (a) a main linked switch or circuit-breaker should be provided as means of isolation and of interrupting the supply on load. For a single-phase household and similar supplies that may be operated by an unskilled person. So I understand it’s not a good idea to isolate the main switch on full load but in cases of emergency or by unskilled person this may be the case. Thanks again 🙌

What happens in the absence of an isolation switch, does the DNO have to fit one?

Permission?
True, if it was an actual installation you should seek permission to isolate the circuits from someone with authority.
How many domestic properties have an isolator? Most just have the DNO fuse!

GSH Electrical good stuff. That'll be good for electricians to know because 9.9/10 it won't have an isolator. Look forward to the video
Why is the probe removed from the earth bar between tests? ie. you tested live to earth then neutral to earth.
Why not keep the probe on the earth?

Thanks
