2024 Toyota Tacomas MADE entirely in MEXICO... Here's WHY that's a PROBLEM!

  • Toyota is paying pennies on the dollar for labor in Mexico... Moving production of their iconic Toyota Tacoma entirely from America to Mexico isn't a good thing. It'd be less painful if Toyota actually passed on the savings to the consumer. But instead they hiked prices even more. New 2024 Toyota Tacoma prices are through the roof. Killing off the reliable naturally aspirated V6 and shoving a tiny turbocharged 4 cylinder in there as the ONLY option is a huge miss. Toyota flopped on the new Tacoma, we, the consumer NEED to be critical of it. Positive changes won't ever be made if we just roll over and accept this 4 banger Tacoma as it is. Asking over $50K for their non-iForce Max version is ludicrous too...
It's not surprise that we see soooo many brand new 2024 Toyota Tacomas just sitting on dealer lots already. Crazy to see Toyota offer a full new redesign then just have them sit upon arrival. Very little excitement over this little rig, which is a total shame. True Toyota enthusiasts (not fanboy simps), want an affordable pickup that is simplistic and reliable. That's all. That's why we buy Toyota pickups. It's really that simple. But here we are... This is all we get. Meh.

I have a 2014 Tundra I bought new in ‘14. When I was young, I had an ‘88 Nissan 4x4 (4 cylinder) and a ‘95 Nissan 4x4 (6 cylinder). I put over 200k miles on both. Both ran like new when I sold them. I did just basic maintenance stuff. I was very impressed on longevity with those trucks. If I was in the market for a small truck, I’d buy that 6 cylinder Nissan 4x4 they have now. I just wouldn’t tow horse trailers or larger boats with it. Knowing how overkill I am on maintenance, I’d feel confident that Nissan would last me well over 20 years and still run like new. My Tundra now runs better than when I first drove it off the lot 10 years ago. My advice- buy something built to last. Learn to do your own maintenance on it. Park in a garage if you can. Pay it off as quickly as you can. Drive it for at least 10 years after paying it off. Save that imaginary payment monthly for those 10 years for your emergency fund. Invest as much as you can in a retirement plan. You’ll be a happy camper when you get gray hair some day.

I had a 2011 Tacoma for 13 years. Best vehicle I have ever owned hands down. The yearly repairs from lifting it became too much which was my fault from lifting it in the first place 11 years ago. It was a price to pay which I did not consider. I decided to return the middle finger to Toyota and bought a 2024 Frontier. Naturally aspirated V-6 fully loaded and rides very good. So far I am very pleased with it. Toyota hates the USA because they moved everything to Mexico and raised thier prices on top of that for more $$$. I am glad to know my Frontier is assembled in the USA. This country is failing and a lot of companies want the USA to fail which is why they are giving us the middle finger.

They did improve the dampening/ride and threw in all the safety stuff with updated center stack/gauge cluster etc.. IMO, Nissan will benefit from Toyota's higher pricing. I don't know.., my 23 4runner was made in japan and it had a bad headlight seal the day after it left the lot. Also from new a bad front differential the dealer said was tire noise. Long story short 14 thousand miles the whole front differential had to be replaced by a second dealership because it was "full of metal in the fluid." Toyota skimped out on the sound deadening with the windshield cowl which resulted in sounds as if the windshield would split in two at any minute. I had to fix that myself. Thank goodness for the 4runner forums and their ideas where to add insulation. I think toyota has been cutting corners and it's all coming to fruition. After talking with some people in the industry I’m not as worried about the new turbo 2.4L. Toyota’s actually been testing the engine for over six years now and there’s a lot of complicated science that goes behind the design to make it reliable. The new combustion burn efficiency rates are straight up magic and all the major components like rod bearings have been beefed up to meet their reliability standards. For example it has two less cylinders than the V6 but the rod bearings are 30% bigger which actually equals out to less total stress. The 2.4L is going into THREE of Toyotas flagship vehicles. They’re not going to do that with an engine that doesn’t live up to their reputation. It’s not the 1980’s anymore you can build a reliable turbo 4 it’s just really expensive to do right which is reflected in the prices unfortunately.

The Toyota plant is Baja California Mexico was producing some of the components for the Tacoma for many years before the entire Tacoma production was moved. There are onsite Japanese QC engineers living in Baja Mexico to monitor their productive and quality. Toyota also sells the Toyota Hilux in Mexico where both the Hilux in Mexico, especially in the Northern States of Mexico. The Hilux and Tacoma are very popular trucks there. They . have a huge fan base and loyal following in Mexico just as there is in US. I’ve gone to dealerships in 4 different cities and their Tacomas are much more expensive there to include the OEM parts. I’ve priced parts for Toyota and Honda in Mexico and they are 50-60% more retail than prices here in the US.

Is most of the sales for Toyota in the United States? Why wouldn’t they build them in the United States?

    • @willyjimmy8881
      @willyjimmy8881 21 день тому +1

They were building them in TX years ago alongside the Tundra. But Tundra sales have went up and the TX plant couldn't build more. So they built the Baja plant to build Tacomas and dedicated the TX plant to build Tundras and the Tundra based SUVs. 1 platform. Of note is that when they were builing Tacomas at both locations it was the Baja plant trucks that had few quality issues and warranty related repairs. So they earned it.

Both are daily drivers and I can tell the difference in the quality, fit, and finish. The first couple years I had my Tacoma I had plenty problems, in which the vehicle was at the dealership often for warranty repairs. My 4Runner only had one issue, a fog lamp wasn’t working. 🤙🏼

Even with more tech and advanced features, I couldn’t imagine paying nearly $10K more for a 4th Gen. I’m looking to add a late 5th Gen T4R or one of the last GX’s to my stable. Not going for either of the new generation models. Keep up the videos; I’m sure Toyota would wish you didn’t, but you’re doing great work in my book!

Here's something that really stands out to me. Every Toyota I've seen for the last 20 years has an emblem on the back that says V6 or V8. How come Toyota doesn't put the I4 emblem on these things? They do put an IForceMax one, but that's to tout the electric assist. It's clear that even Toyota knows that "I4" is not emblem-worthy.

Love that I found your channel. Love the honesty and what other people are thinking. Or at least what I am thinking about Toyota. Wanted the Tacoma so much. Was waiting for this new gen but the cost was crazy. The mpg that was rumored to be around 30 mpg for the hybrid was super disappointing. Have 1-2 mpg more than the gas engine sucks. With the million trim levels that Toyota seems to like with their cars I think the options that they could have made with the Tacoma was missed. I feel SUVs and trucks are kinda like the new family “car”. They should have more engine choices, kept a bigger gas tank or at least an option for a bigger gas tank. Could have expanded the back seat about 6 inches to a foot by taking the option of a 6ft bed. Take the 1ft bed, put it in the backseat area and keep the 5ft bed. And yes everyone it would be hard on the line when producing all the trucks but have the option at least. I know it is all about money but slow down and build quality and wipe out your competition. Thanks.

I worked for a Toyota subsidiary in N. Carolina making transmissions for Tacomas. There were also Japanese working the same line. The same hours. Probably were getting paid more than I was. Anyway they didn't mess around. Quality was paramount. I also worked for Aisin Texas making transmissions for Tundra's. Again the technology utilized on the various assembly lines was astounding. Then they had various test cells. They also had specialized repair stations if a transmission failed QC tests.

New here but feels like you just have a grudge against Toyota. All new cars are super complex. The head unit failed in my mom’s outback and the replacement cost was over 5k. The car literally won’t run without it because most of the interior and drivetrain settings use it. I’m looking for a compact truck currently and in east TN you can’t get a Tacoma unless you put down a deposit. Most TRD models are sold as soon as they’re allocated.

Not to defend México because Im mexican that was born in the citty where Tacomas are made, but their quality is pretty good.
When things go bad is when the parts are bad quality or the just the process.
Also, they fire your ass in a heartbeat if you dont perform, unlike in the state's where unioa make it a lot more difficult.

My 2019 Toyota Yaris (Mazda 2) was built in Mexico. No problems yet at 70,000, but I have my fingers crossed, and am good with maintenance. I don't like where it was made either, but I only paid $11,000 for it in like new condition in 2020 with 19,xxx miles. My next car will likely be a used Lexus with low miles, and the VIN will start with a J. They're at least reasonably priced (for now).
Regarding country of manufacture, the same can be said about the RAM1500 and RAM2500. The last time I checked, the 1500 is made in US, and the 2500 in Mexico. The 1500 reliability isn't great, so I'm definitely not optimistic about the 2500.

Toyota starting pay to work on the manufacturing line in Texas is $21.25 an hour, which can be found if you go on Toyotas careers website. From what I read an average factory worker in Mexico has seen their pay rising, $5 an hour wouldn't be out of the ordinary. 21 hours to build the average Toyota automobile. So $446.25 to build a Toyota in Texas. $105 to build that same Toyota in Mexico. Either way, these trucks are WAYYYYY to expensive!!!

I’ve been inside the mega factory Toyota in Tecate, MX, too close to the US border, every production line is supervised by Japanese engineers qualified. They approve the final stage of every finished pick up, it’s a strict quality control towards US federal vehicle regulations, the 4 cylinder hybrid engine is technology brought from Japan, and fyi the management there is American payroll, so those Mexicans make great money earnings.
