Same for me. Did not play ED since the beginning of the year. Before that time I started a new char and just played a bit with some friends, that have started too, until they left after a few weeks. Therefore I did not play since the Gnosis calamity. I hoped so much that Odyssey will bring back the strong obsession I feel for this game since more than 30 years. But it did not. I fear there might be a fourth option how 2022 and bexond might be for ED. I have no idea how that might be, but it will be only money driven and not emotion driven. So I stay tuned on this channel and hope that time shows that I will be wrong.
I really would love Elite to be great again. To spend hours in this massive universe fully engaged in some interesting activities. Right now my only contact with this game is via your youtube channel
@@NgryMosquito I used to spend hours indulging in combat and the void of space, making money to buy better ships and upgrades. I haven't felt compelled to play more than a brief snippet since Odyssey came out, though. They kowtowed to players and made it too easy to get the best ships, removing the entire enterprising grind gameloop, and the new gameplay they've added in the last paid update just isn't fun, and keeps breaking important gameplay systems. I'd argue it's a less enjoyable game now than it was in 2015.
The game is as great as it's always been, just has more content like space legs and fleet carriers. If that's not your thing then you still have a great game to play.
@@Macky4941 I started playing Elite in 2015 so I've done everything there. Lack of really new and interesting content also boring grind make me stop playing.
@@NgryMosquito I’d say that it was great in spite of itself, with the community making up for the deficiencies in gameplay and features. The game is technically better than ever, but feels so alienating, because both the playerbase and the veterans are far fewer than before. My interactions in the game with other players is essentially with the newest of newbies, and basically no one else.
Ship interiors is #1 on my wants list. Odyssey has largely been just a galaxy map upgrade for me, and I have no plans on doing any of the FPS content. I’d be happy if they cut their losses and focused on planetary content like oceans, atmospheres, actual flora that doesn’t look like it was generated by the spray paint tool in ms paint, really just anything that isn’t combat oriented.
Ship interior....what do you want with that? It's just running around and do nothing with it? It wouldn't be like in SC that you need to change the chair for the turrets or carry some cargo boxes around. I would love to have it too....but I think it's pretty useless in Elite :/
@@HNTR308 Some things you could do: Repair your modules without an AFMU - including the power plant, presumably this would cost materials so you might have to land and find them if you're in deep space. More interesting FPS combat. We already have the ability to break into airlocks, so imagine being able to spacewalk (or at least use a fighter) and then board someone else's ship, sabotage modules, cargo stealing might be a bit difficult given the size of the canisters but there could be high value data courier missions where you'd need to get to a computer terminal to download it. This would make multicrew interesting too. Hell, maybe if you do really badly on a passenger mission some high paying space Karen with a pistol might try and start a mutiny.
@@neonspark707 That doesn't mean it's over. Horizons was landable planets, Odyssey is the first person on-foot gameplay. Ship interiors can also be something introduced in whatever next large update they could potentially work on.
It appears to me that Frontier have really lost their way with Elite. Odyssey introduced "space legs" which a large number of players were asking for but without the bit people wanted (ship interiors) and with an average shooter component with outdated gameplay (no cover system or mantling over obstacles). Station interiors are a cut and paste affair and I expect Carrier interiors will be very similar. The new multi-function limpet controllers appear to be badly thought out and not as useful as they could be. This, coupled with the fact that they are so averse to discussing what they are planning gives me very little faith that anyone involved really knows what they are doing. It's such a shame because the core game is still very good and still looks wonderful. Come on FDev, pull your socks up and start talking to your players again and also maybe listen a bit more.
Add to it completely outdated approach to path finding of npc when you are not in combat - and we can see a pattern of doing stuff with minimal effort in hopes that its "good enough".
Don’t forget the fact that we NEED to swap weapons from energy to kinetic, while in the thick of fire, just to drop someone. Name me ONE other FPS game that has a pointless mechanic like that…
@@Malthaelx1 yeah it’s telling that they copy-pasta’d the ship paradigm to the on-foot combat, given that very few other games do that. Neither Star Citizen or No Man’s Sky (to my knowledge) make the on-foot combat feel like the vehicle combat, thus it flows a lot better in those two games. _"B-But Halo and shields!"_ Yeah? In Halo the Plasma weapons were still viable once an opponent’s shields dropped, and weren’t next to useless. Same with projectiles vs. shields, where your assault/battle rifle or SMG dual-wield wasn’t next to useless against shields. If Halo 2 were done by FDev, then only the noob combo (pistol and plasma pistol) would be the only viable option in multiplayer, for example.
I have a life subscription to all Elite expansions. I could care less about carrier interiors, new playable ships, or new Thargoid ship. I want to see a meaningful and interesting GAMEPLAY, EXPLORATION ANS SENSE OF LIFE in Milky Way. I do not want to travel few minutes through Space doing nothing, so eliminate overwhelming boredom, PLEASE.
Yeah, but even in exploring real space, it's gonna get boring at some time during a trip. Heck, just driving in the country from one place to the next, (North Carolina to Cal. for instance). your gonna run into some lulls. Part of the trip man.
Yes, I agree. Even something like random Thargoid attacks in space or in fast travel etc. Something amazing to find on planet surfaces. \\\\there is so much untapped potential!!
I think Frontier knows exactly what is needed to bring people back to their game. But they’re just not willing to admit there’s a clock ticking away that, as it goes on, it’s going to become harder and harder to accomplish. The analogy is definitely getting old, sure. But as Star Citizen continues to both add features and polish out, it’s going to be harder for Frontier to grab that crowd back (which is where I believe most of their audience that craves this genre of game went). Even with half the features still missing inside my Carrack, I still love walking down its hallways to the crew area, or down the massive ramp after I’ve touched down on New Baggage. And I really wanted that with Elite. Like I said, I think Frontier knows what they have to do, I just don’t think they want to do it.
To be honest, that's very bad news to console players, again. It's not like current situation makes us even remotely able to even consider a gaming PC and there's a reason why people flocked around Series S: affordability and quality no PC for similar price shall offer.
@@mauricester Can’t tell if that’s sarcasm or not (not attacking you for it), just hard to tell through text. Personally, no. I haven’t gotten bored of walking through my ship and I know that was a major point they made about why they don’t plan to add interiors. I can’t speak for anyone else, but to me that’s where the value of your ship comes in; the space you create and live in.
@@mokaso sarcasm. 😉 I love walking around my ships in SC Never could figure out why folks can walk around at least the bridge of their ship in Elite in VR,,,, I mean if the mapped and rendered it. Why not be able to at least get out of your seat and stretch your legs on the bridge
Above all i'd like to see ANY new gameplay detaching from the same "grind for engineering resources" idea. Breaking that loop of doing the same stuff over and over and replacing it with something unique and.. fun? :P I very doubt it will ever be like that but even on a small scope it'd be nice.
i recently purchased odyssey and im unsure why so much anger is had about grinding for mats. i literally jumped around to different stations and within 2 hours had all grade 3 suits and many grade 2-3 weapons. i can easily do combat zones now, and solo missions with combat are challenging, but not nearly as "impossible" as it was with grade 1 equipment. the "need" to grind seems to just be player perspective on wanting to max everything out and THEN "enjoy" the game. enjoy the game while the mat grinding happens in the background, its actually fun imo.
@@SomeGuy-xn4xu It's not about a single task you need to repeat in itself, it's about the whole picture. You need money? You repeat the "best" missions because if not it'd mean spending so many days to reach the same goals, probably with more risks than jumping over multiple system over and over for cargo or passengers. Materials? Searching for best spots and login and logout to refresh the area to be faster is not a sign of "fun". Combat? Do i need to engineer equipment because some enemies have more defense and do more damage? If something else was there (ex. stories to follow, battles with different scenarios, military careers, etc) i would be more motivated to power myself up.. or better i'd naturally progress by having fun in those activities. Not by spending time to collect stuff to engineer and loop again with another upgrade. Grind is also jumping and jumping around systems to check a planet's surface than go to another, and again and again. I'd expect something more involved. Repeating tasks would need to be a side thing not the main focus.
@@grittynerd well its hard for me to comment on needing anything except suit and weapon materials. if i need materials i just scour mission boards, but beyond that im simply enjoying the various gameplay loops without focusing on "grinding" specifics. imo, this has always been a problem with the player's perception of what elite brings to the table. myopically viewing rewards as in-game items and not the "enjoyment" one gets from doing certain activities they like to do is what keeps people believing elite is a "bad" game, imo.
Started Elite: Dangerous about a month or two ago and I'm just now outfitting my brand new Krait Phantom for exploration. Huge learning curve, but loving the game and really enjoying delving into the lore. Whether Elite: Dangerous will continue to be supported in a meaningful way going forward, it's been an extremely enjoyable experience, utterly and completely enhanced by ObsidianAnt's remarkably strong content. Probably learned more ObsidianAnt about how this game works than from the Codex or tutorials, etc. Despite the uncertainty about the game's future, really looking forward to continuing to exploring the galaxy - hopeful for the day I fuel up in ObsidianAnt's own station, as by rights he should be made a new Engineer in 2022!
Hopefully your still enjoying it, just came back after my 2nd long break and finally tackled engineering. Trying to hype myself to finally travel to the popular stations outside the bubble.
"supported in a meaningful way going forward" Going forward? Is not supported in a meaningfull way NOW. Actually it hasnt been supported ina meaningfull way for YEARS. Youre new here...so ill cut you some slack...but the rest of us? Dude...you have no fucking idea....Enjoy the honeymoon phase man. We all did.
Ship interiors is what most of community want, I mean star citizen let's you walk around your ship, the shooting feels amazing, walk around space stations and buy armor and guns, and fully customize your character, now imagine that in elite dangerous, players would come back if they just listened to them.
In odyssey i wish they would have focused more on research missions and exploration missions instead of combat bc this games strength is exploration in my opinion
You and me both... I keep waiting for a recurrence of that 1 mission to go find some biology. It showed up at midnight and only had 6 hours on the timer, so I had to pass; haven't seen one again in several days :(
I can't understand how the meeting went where they got together and decided that what a space exploration and trading game really needs is to bolt on a generic first person shooter, yeah, I'm sure that is what all our user base has been really wanting all these years!
What I want from the game is what I always wanted. For the game to respect my time. No more long travel times with nothing to do. Give us in-system jumps or at least let us decide which star to come out of hyperspace next to.
I have to defend the long travel times (especially when considering things like Hutton Orbital) as a realism thing. However a skip drive for endgame content would be nice I agree.
@@daemonxblaze As much as I do agree with the idea of “Space being big”, I will say super-cruise is the single most boring part of Elite, and the fact is, on the long journeys through a system it’s actually better to leave your ship travelling AFK and go off and do something like making a cup of tea or a sandwich.
@@Malthaelx1 That's how they get people saying that they had thousands of hours of 'gameplay', when in reality it's a substantial proportion of dead time, including the system jump loading screen and the autopilot flight to a station.
Just logged back into Horizons this week to make my way to Colonia after a hiatus. Seem's even horizons is going backwards with new bugs. Fair and honest revies OA, continued success in '22
to be fair, carrier interiors are easier because they would be modified station interiors meanwhile ship interiors are a massive undertaking in comparison and might take several years to make for every (non fighter) ship
@@saintjames1995 I was more so referring to star citizen levels of interiors but if i recall correctly, frontier has stated that walkable ship interiors will require some reworking on par with implementing fleet carriers
The biggest factor here is the fact that fleet carriers are essentially static objects in the universe until they jump, where as ships very much aren't, and as far as I've heard even back before Odyssey alpha, Frontier doesn't know how to let people move around on foot while the ship is moving. The fact that we'll be put in seats when carriers jump very much tells me this is something Frontier hasn't solved yet or is a limitation of the Cobra engine, possibly both.
@@saintjames1995 Don't think thats the point. Bigger problem is meaningful interiors. It would be stupid to have a cargo bay interior in a ship which don't have any cargo space. Or not to have a Luxury cabin interior, if you are running a wedding barge... and so forth. Having ALL possible layouts as ship interiors would be a huge work...
As much as I want ship interiors, I really want on foot search and rescue gameplay. Ie, NPCs or players call out for help after crashing into a planet or stranded and you've got to either locate them and evac to a station, or help them gun their way out of an ambush Black Hawk Down style
That’s exactly the kind of thing I wanted from on-foot gameplay aside from ship interiors. But if we’re being realistic, frontier could never do it right. They’d somehow botch it and make it a grindy mess by making you have to farm engineering materials from them or some shit like that, or make it somewhat fun but take forever and be worth pocket change in the end (like xeno combat). That’s probably why the most banal and uninteresting aspect of on foot gameplay- FPS combat (and even then they somehow messed that up too) was what they focused on, since it’s way easier to do. Minimum viable product.
That would be fun. Or derelict space stations. All dark and spooky... needing to search through it for loot or survivors. Maybe fighting off pirates that have come to scavenge as well. Although, they'd need to make station interiors bigger than one single room.... which I don't think is possible. Took 100 people, working for years to create that one single room that they cut and paste across the galaxy.
i hope they will add trees, water, new spaceships, shipinteriors and maybe even another srv. i know we just got a new one but i would like an srv hovercraft for racing. that would be cool. Edit: crossplay would also be ledgendary
SHIP INTERIORS!! Being able to leave your cockpit that’s all we are asking for nothing to big or nothing else then work towards atmospheric worlds then add more ships…Boom great plan right there for future goals. No more fleet carriers no more loot and shoot. Let us walk and breathe air
Frontier should put out a half sized carrier (frigate?) for solo explorers. Th upkeep costs is what keeps me (and probably most solo players) from wanting the carriers.
I hope exploration gets an huge overhaul with more stellar bodies to discover, updates to current stellar bodies (aka make black holes have actual black holes not just lens distortion, make the supermassive black hole look like in Interstellar, etc.), more atmospheric planets to land on, like dangerous lava worlds with valuable resources and erupting volcanoes and planets with clouds and weather such as rain, storms, etc. I love exploring in this game but finding various lifeless round rocks and lifeless round rocks with "atmosphere" is kinda getting tedious.
Well, been in a sleeping state for a good while now and unless i can walk around in my Krait Phantom and have some more things to do as an Explorer, i won't go through the process of relearning all the controls and sweating with butt clenching pains just to fly my ship through that mail slot with high value exploration data, better be worth it. It's cozy next to my blackhole in the unknown. :) Thanks for reporting.
It is the same for me: I am sitting in Explorers Rest(?) at the center of the Galaxy. Rest of my ships is in the bubble. I had planned to continue to the the farthest reaches of the Galaxy. But after learning that - instead of the Great Empty - there are a lot of Fleet Carriers out there, I lost my motivation. There is no more adventure in this. The Fleet Carriers with their idiotic jump range destroyed the last thing which motivated me to play. And after Odyssey dropped (no, I did not preorder or buy it, never will) I deinstalled the game forever. I fear my 2 billion Credits, my ships in the bubble and my Explorer Ship in the center of the Galaxy will rot away. I will forget this train wreck of a game and its developers, forever...
People saying they don't want to add ship interiors as they'd be directly competing with Star Citizens, etc. etc. etc. and it'd be a waste of resources and time... Look.. you don't have to be competing with Star Citizens, Elite Dangerous is a whole different beast in terms of game-play, combat, etc... The real problem with Elite Dangerous is that GAMEPLAY is as shallow as it can possibly be. Everything is pointless... there is no resource sink, there is no inter connectivity between jobs, and actions in Elite Dangerous as in I can't buy from other players, or even NPC's at a jacked up price who have been mining all day, to get stuff to either sell myself as a trader, or use as components/parts/resources for engineering or anything. I can't use an exploration ship, to find a lucrative and rare mining spot, and then take my mining ship out for big returns, or sell that information for money to other players. Elite Dangerous is supposed to be an MMO, yet it plays and feels at best like a co-op game, and a shallow boring one at that where no matter what you're doing it's just a straight injection of funds to your wallet for doing simple tasks to just get a "Better" ship, and once you get that better or best ship.... to just keep doing what you've been doing because there is literally nothing else to do but either pew pew random NPC pirates, or explore the massive, empty, boring planets by the millions... There are no stories, or campaigns that set through minor or major factions to help you get into the story and lore of Elite. There is extremely limited player interactions. There is no major or even minor job inter-play where miners can help others, explorers can help others, combat can help others, etc. They've dropped the ball so hard with Elite Dangerous that even if they do add interiors it won't matter, as the whole core of the game is completely and utterly pointless. It's stagnant, and they've dragged their feet on making Elite actually have depth and something meaningful to actually dive into. The biggest thing that makes all of this such a huge infuriating situation is that they have MULTIPLE things which could of fixed all this, but as usual they go half assed into it and barely scratch the surface of competent game-play features before saying "mission accomplished" and going onto some other half assed mechanic. Engineers could of been a huge and fun interactivity for players, and jobs, and things to do. Instead it's just another "go gather this via the same stuff as always then go play our slot machine" The Power struggle mechanic should of been another thing that was constantly worked on, added too, and made to have more depth, but it's just yet another mechanic with amazing potential that is barely struggling to be more than entirely pointless. It's just a shame that so much unlimited potential isn't even begun to be tapped into because of such an insanely incompetent, dull, and un imaginative development team..
The last time I played E:D was the day before Odyssey dropped. I figured I’d wait a couple weeks for them to iron out the major problems. Still waiting. My only contact for now is watching your videos so thank you for that!
I did the same. I kinda feel if I want to spend money on an alpha/beta software, I would chose Star Citizen over Odyssey, but I have plenty of non-beta games to play in my steam collection. At this point I find it hard to go back to Elite Dangerous.
@@imushavem7504 Steam has 80 percent off almost everything on my wishlist at the moment. Elite has a lot of competition. Granted, not in the space games genre, but I'm not going to restrict myself to just one genre.
@@xyzzy3000 I hope you enjoy whatever you get. I've got a bunch of time in NMS (have everything unlocked and a big bank roll now - and the Expeditions are fun), Rebel Galaxy Outlaw (sad Double Damage in out of business now), Everspace 1, and starting X4, though it is a little cluncky for my taste. @@imushavem7504 Thank you. I do have a fair backlog on Steam, but I didn't end up spending anything at all thanks to the Epic giveaways, particularly Shenmue 3. My Steam wishlist has a lot of indie titles, but also a good few Japanese franchises that I remember fondly from the Dreamcast days. The graphics card situation is unhelpful, but the PC has an incredible back catalogue that often plays well enough even with integrated graphics.
@@xyzzy3000 I understand the graphic card situation. I have a 1060 6GB, so it's just barely making the grade for most games. I really looking of forward to the Steam Deck.
I really wanted to make a ground base on an atmospheric planet my home base because i like the views, but for some stupid reason fdev decided I'm not allowed to do that, because they made sure that every single ground station on every single atmospheric planet does not have a shipyard to transport ships. So now im forced to use the same handful of orbital stations that all look the same that I've been looking at for the past 4 years.
Dont be silly, they rather eat their own feces than listen to those who are the source of their income. Fdev has proven this to be the fact so many times it's not even a secret anymore
Even when the community was speaking out for years about the tedious grindy gameplay, they still doubled down and made the grind even worse for odyssey. They don't give a shit about the community and they will never listen.
@@90Ferd Alas you're probably right. I imagine they'll pull the rip cord and have Elite fade into the void then kill it in it's sleep so they can move onto their next cash cow.
@@90Ferd While I agree they also seem to be listening more recently. Not enough and they could still listen more. But at least they are heading in the right direction finally.
I want to see more multi role missions where you need more people to complete it. It would be nice to have someone in a fighter running air support for the team moving attacking in a SRV.
They continue to be silent to the community, one of the things that are killing the playerbase. I was hoping that they would learn with the trainwreck that odyssey release was but it seems fdev won't ever change. I moved to SC, where the dev team is much more engaged with the community and it's awesome
Not trying to defend Fdev, but they have a recap on the forums every month where they explain everything that is being worked on and what will ship in the next update. This is on top of the weekly livestreams where you get a look at WIP stuff. Since the launch of Odyssey they have significantly improved their communication towards their players
@@motba6228 True. Moving a bit towards that direction is good, but not enough for me at least. Compare that to SC, where they have weekly livestreams with devs from different departments often answering people's questions about the ongoing development and future features relevant to that department, weekly Inside Star Citizen, etc. Also most of the features they announce there come within a few months (in my limited sc experience). But the most important thing is that they actually hear a lot of the feedback and change things accordingly, making the game actually fun and not a boring, shallow, grind experience like elite is once you get some hours in
As a console cmdr, I feel new content should either be postponed until such a time that parity can be achieved or keep new content for Horizons as to not screw over a fair section of the player base. Console players aren't the only folks unable to play Odyssey atm. That worst part of all of this is that I've yet to see anything in Odyssey that looks better than deus ex mankind divided looked on my ps4. Clearly the game isn't too graphically demanding for console and all of this BS is because of bad coding basically. It's disgraceful for a company to conduct business with its consumers in the way we've witnessed over the past years. I'm afraid fdev as irreparably damaged their relationship with the console community and honestly after reading the complaints on their forums about their other titles, I wouldn't ever bother with another title from these guys.
Personally I don't see delaying further content for EVERYONE as any worse than only delaying it for PS4 and Xbox. Most of the stuff I read on the forums now suggest everyone is cool with how the game is until someone starts asking about consoles then it's suddenly unplayable. These players crying demanding better than 60 fps to me just look like spoiled rich kids having a tantrum because the Porsche their daddy got them for their birthday isn't a Ferrari. It's embarrassing
I Still Love Elite. I also continue to watch and enjoy all of your content as you have always been very fair, while your content is very enjoyable to watch. Thank You Obsidian Ant. :)
ObsidianAnt, I love your content and had to walk away from Elite Dangerous when they dropped VR support. I really enjoy all of your content other then ED, I was hopping to hear in this one they changed their minds, but not a peep. Weird, I feel they may do the cash grab and walk away? I feel due to the fact they do not want to plan out future plans. The funny thing is how everyone was saying the same about Star Citizen and waited 8 years till I finally committed and I am glad I did, it is great. VR is the only way to fly and they will bring it in, keep up the Great content and have a Happy New Year to you, your family and all supporters!!!
Haven't launched ED in about 6 months, and not put any decent time into it for well over a year. Your videos though are a great way to keep up with the game, really appreciate it!
I don’t get why they make interiors for stations and this very VERY HUGE ship (fleet carriers), but they can’t make interiors for small player ships. But ofc they have their reasons (atleast I hope they have). It’s just one of the most wanted feature for elite, and it would make the game way more immersive.
For consoles there is also option 4 - and I would distinct it from 3 because if true, frontier are barred from releasing at at least one console completely - it didn't get through Microsoft or Sony testing suits. Which would corelate well with the fact that they are so focused on patches.
As to your comment about what I'd love to see, this is my short list... 1. ship interiors - such large ships should have some rooms etc. Its basically the players own little house unless you own a Fleet Carrier then it just a shed. 2. Some sort of crafting - fire arms, weapons, ship components, suits, furniture, electronics or white goods for your ship. I could see loosing hours on this. 3. Maybe some first person quests 4. Racing - be it space, hover bikes or cars with some sort of race tracks - some of these areas would make mad race tracks... Yeah yeah a bit starwars but admit it it would be cool 5. Gambling on any type of war or race. Win it big or lose it all.. 6. Fpv drones - it's the space age, they must have drones that can be flowen. Would be great for recon, racing and plain old fun. I could go on and on...
After experiencing the great ship interiors offered by SC I can safely say I'll never fire up ED ever again. Never realized how immersive it could be until I experienced it done really well. could never go back to being strapped into my seat for eternity. Fleet carrier interiors lol??....too little too late im afraid.
Normally I agree with what you say, except this one, "2021 has been a difficult year for Elite Dangerous...". Saying it like that sort of implies it was done to them, like Fdev had no part in it. Like they tried their hardest, and despite all that unwaivering effort it just wasn't in the cards, better luck next year. Where as they didn't try at all, everything is 100% self inflicted. The responsibility falls on Fdev. Give no quarter, and yield no mercy. I say call it what it is, a dumpster fire that Fdev started, and just kept dumping fuel on. Or if we must, and you really want to be nice about it I'd say "2021 was a bad year to play Elite Dangerous for a lot of people". But not for Fdev or ED. They did it to themselves and they don't get to forget it. I'd probably have a different tone if they never told me what I want, and actually listened to what we said. What do I want? Not much, I don't actually want them to add anything. I don't even want ship interiors, well at least I didn't untill they told me I didn't. What I want is for them to fix their design philosophy. Because "GRIND FOR EVERYTHING" is not a mechanic. It's a copout. I also want them to fix their FPS. I bought knock off games out of the $1 bin back in the day that were a more solid FPS experience.
I would love to see a small calm mini-game for the collection of genetic samples, instead of the scan 3 things while standing still. A mini-game similar to the code braking from ME2 with genetic materials could be very suitable.
Great video and totally in line with how I see things. FPS combat from the get go was a mistake. Making it viable is proving to be quicksand and swallowing up all resources thrown at it. I wish they had kept all on foot gameplay about being a pilot and supplemented existing ship gameplay with first person depth. The game would have stood out from the other space sims by keeping to being about piloting only. That's what I think anyway.
this is exactly how i feel, my mind instantly goes to games like blackwake and guns of icarus, crewing a ship with your friends and all the chaos that ensues trying to manage the different systems would be fantastic, why give us shooter gameplay where we can walk around some shite cookie cutter environment randomly dotted over giant empty planets when you could keep the scope smaller and the focus sharper, fdev are pretty misguided in this regard
I have been on a long break from the game, I just could not enjoy the game anymore the grind was to much for me. But I still come back to you’re channel. Thank you for all the effort
To be honest, it's all out there as clear as day for everyone to see. What Frontier has done over the past three years speaks a very clear language: #1 we don't care about the existing player base, since they already paid. #2 only interested in new players that are not as demanding in New content. #3 this game is planned to generate a steady income stream with a VERY low cost base (maintenance mode forever, no risky major new investments, low server and low staff salary costs). If you are looking for a Hello Games style recovery and serious investment into Elite Dangerous: you will be disappointed. My time is to precious to keep bothering with this dumpster fire. However, once they sunset the game and come out with a new one with a more gameplay friendly engine, I would be happy to try it out.
On foot VR and proper framerate, CZ on foot is still sub 30 fps in heat of battle which is unblayable for a shooter. Thanks again ANT for keeping us posted with the 'news' about this dissapointment of a game.
I have put the whole production of the 3D animation on hold to see how everything pans out. The updates for cameras, visuals, ect have been so well done. I have a decent media computer for production building and play in VR. The first launch of EDO was unplayable. Now I have zero issues and am rethinking how I do the production of a full 3D made series.
Ship interiors, real atmospheric planets and a massive lower grind for simle silencer, scopes etc. is the way to go. If they still ignore it, players still go to other games which offer this content.
Exactly. Well, I'm not boycotting so much as I'm not interested in playing. The idea of doing VR for spaceships and then switching for debarking in FP view, crazy.
back then I got a 1080TI and Lenovo Explorer VR set JUST to play this game in VR and it was breathtaking, then they dropped the flatscreen nonsense and im still angry about it.
if they fixed the performance on the fps side of the game i would love some alien ground fighting, my biggest thing would be to have a clan bank so me and friends can save up for a fleet carrier and share the running costs. Thanks for the video OA

Panther Clipper with the ability to haul a medium class ship to Colonia. Matt Recardo? Has a recent size comparison that includes speculatively the Clipper. Kinda boxy but good 😉
VR support would be great. A reduction in grind would be brilliant. You should not have to log out and back on over and over again to collect mats in any acceptable time frame. I cant believe in 3307 we can't buy raw materials, or things like Guardian weapon parts as needed for AX weapon refills. On foot Thargoid combat coupled with Thargoid motherships would be good. On the exploration side, planetary climates would be interesting and possibly alien wildlife. The biggest plus would be ship interiors and associated gameplay. And how about bars that actually serve drinks?
Ship interiors would make space travel less boring and auto pilot more useful, just imagine this: you are currently In a 110kls trip and turn on your auto pilot, then get up and start walking around your ship maybe talking to your passengers or doing some maintenence, sitting in your small break room with your friend or your contracted npc pilot and start talking about anything, 10000× better than staring at space while your ship pilots itself to the destination. We don't even need the ship interiors to be connected to the outside like in star citizen, never seen anyone asking for specifically that, people want to use their recently gifted space legs to walk around their ships, so why not give them that? Frontier literally announced out loud that all ships they made were built with the intent of having full interiors, come on we've been asking for what feels like an eternity. And instead you gave us a bad shooter that literally no one asked for??? also the problem with "running up your halls for 10 minutes to take off while being shot at" can be fixed by simply adding a fast travel menu while inside your ship, which would lead you to cockpit, exit, fighter bay (if present) SRV Bay (if present) and other potentially useful places (which would not break immersion that much)
@@grayefarer8151 while I do agree with that, some people would be very pissed off by that, that's why giving them the option to run that distance or not would fix the issue in my point of view
I would like to see a Ship or two. And of course ship interiors since there will be fleet Carriers interiors. Also more game activitys like escort missions where you would escort a ship through a hostile system.
Thanks again for a great video. Your updates are my only connection to elite now, and I’ll keep watching for nostalgia and hopes the game will turnaround eventually.
That would be nice to wing up with go pick a fight with gankers and all you would hear is "capital class ship detected" and this big shadow turns out to be the ship with a hail of auto cannons and a light show lol
Hey, I got Elite Dangerous way back in 2015 and played for maybe a year. I've recently returned with a couple of friends and having amazing time re-learning and enjoying totally new parts of the game. I also noticed on Steam stats there is over 6k players on average playing everyday. This game is old but still very much entertaining for returning and new people. Anyway thanks for all your content. I'll be checking it out for tips.
Ship interiors, of course. They could release them one at a time starting with Sidewinder; I can imagine a huge number of pilots would be in Sidewinders if that happened.
Until they manage VR for odyssey, I'm not even loading the game. Bought the content with the understanding that VR wouldn't be available *at launch*...and, then, after I'd played it enough to no longer qualify for a refund, they announced no VR (the reason I love the game) for odyssey, period...I was done. Used to play daily, and miss the game, but the idea of uninstalling an expansion I paid for, just so I can stay in VR...No...Just no
You can't play VR at all with Odyssey installed? I assumed it would let you choose which you want to play, like when choose horizons. And yes, no VR for Odyssey made me immediately not interested.
@@GridIndustries It's *possible* to play, but any time you get into Odyssey content, you end up with a flat screen you're 'watching' in VR, so worse than no VR at all...
Ah, the wonder of subtitles, only those UK readers/watchers of a certain age will remember the old style BBC subtitles. Until today I never realised they were alive and well on UA-cam. Obsidian talking about a longed for addition of Thargoid Motherships and ground attacks finds himself exclaiming how he would relish meeting a thyroid mothership and attacking thyroids on the ground. Made my day.
If I remember right, when Fleet Carriers came out, they said they had no intentions of ever doing interiors for them. Does this mean they're actually considering ship interiors? The fact that they even put effort into some kind of ship interior makes me hope, if only very vaguely...
@@Lonewolf.wildcamping I really hope so man. I miss playing Elite so much, but it's so hard to get excited about anything when FDev clearly don't care about the game anymore. As you said, maybe 2022 will change that...
I've lost interest in this game a long time ago. I so badly want to care about it, but the F-Dev's inability to fix this broken mess has caused me to move on. Maybe someday if they fix it and the Magnificent Maestro can fly again. Until than I'll be watching from a distance. P.S. I'd definitely return if they announced ship interiors. OR Let us visit BIG city planets and see places like Olympus Village. Perhaps full earth-like worlds, but seeing how F-Dev cannot even handle small outposts without a jaw dropping frame rate drop, I won't hold my breath.
With every Star Citizen patch update, Elite dangerous slowly fades into the abyss. Elite dangerous for so long was my go to space game, the mechanics the realism and most importantly playing it in VR whatever time I play Star Citizen it makes it that much more difficult to even play Elite dangerous even in glorious VR, it's that big of a difference.
@@MrRocksW That's a myth. Watch Drew's videos. SC definitely needs optimising but it also definitely doesn't need a top end PC. And Lance is right IMO.
@@MrRocksW I agree that SC should be better optimised and available to all players. It definitely isn't optimised and some hardware doesn't work well with it. Doesn't mean that you need a top-end PC to play it though. Oddly, people report setting graphics to high is better in SC if you have a better graphics card than CPU. And it does seem to be gradually improving in terms of stability and graphic smoothness, and will continue to do so. It's clearly still in development, and I'm still enjoying it hugely. For what it's worth, CoD Warzone wouldn't run at all on my PC until a couple of weeks ago, and that's a fully released game, albeit free.
"2021 has been a difficult year for Elite Dangerous..." is the also the understatement of the year 2021 :D Something a bit over 3k hours in elite but stopped a few weeks after EDO dropped. Still watch your channel :)
I have lowered my expectations to an acceptable level of disappointment. Don't expect anything for consoles til June/July if anything . And I think that may include sorry but we can't do consoles , but thanks for all the arx you paid for
I purchased ED when it first released, and liked it so much, I paid for the lifetime expansion pass when it again became available after one year. Also invested in voicepacks and voice command software. Then, to thank my good friend for getting me into flight sims (who gave me a full HOTAS set to encourage me to try), I bought him a lifetime expansion pass as well. Sadly, because of the grind, neither of us play ED anymore, and I haven't been active in the game for over 18 months, having gone to both MSFS, and DCS World. I do keep tabs on development progress, but the thought of going back to grinding instead of travelling, exploring, etc, always stops me from doing it..
It's better than, say, two years ago. Higher Bounty Hunting pays are the reason why I finally hit the one billion credits barrier, now closing to second billion.

@@mugthemagpie3001 Thanks for your reply, and I appreciate what you've said, though I'm unaware of the status of the credits currently. However, when I stopped playing, I was already at 2.5 billion credits, and found it all a bit hollow, with no real interaction with the background simulation. When I wanted to go and do my own thing, there was always a goalpost being moved, meaning that I was always forced to grind to upgrade ship capabilities, either that, or fall foul of pirates/other players just wanting to shoot me up for giggles and wipe out what I had. I wish you well with your own game experiences though...
Here's my boggle: elite in VR is probably one of the best VR experiences I've had and the immersion is incredible. But with odyssey, what did they expect us to do? Not having VR completely removes the best thing about this game. Break that immersion to get your space legs? GTFO. Id rather walk around my ship, especially in VR. They can do fleet carriers and station interiors, but not ships? Being able to multicrew your ship, do repairs, man turrets, from the inside would be incredible. Elite needs to listen to it's players and give us the things we've been ragging on for years. SC needs some common sense in designs and layouts. I started playing SC and it's super fun, but dear god is it buggy and the giant cash grab just to fly other ships is insane. So many common sense things wrong, where elite is FAR more polished, even if it is more limited.
Honestly, ship interiors are harder than some people think. Designing the interiors itself is probably not really a big issue, same as then walking around and throwing in interactable stuff, obe of the biggest issues though is actually having it be usable while the ship is moving, which might sound trivial but is actually really hard on the physics engine if it hasnt been designed for that from the VERY beginning. It would need to have major rewrites of the physics engine and other parts of the game engine all the while having to watch out that these changes dont f up other parts of the game. Unless you want to only be able to walk around your ship while its safely docked with the engines disengaged.
After 1500 hours on ps4 and another 500 on pc i paused playing ED a while ago. I was quite disappointed that Odyssey doesn't include walkable ship interiors, i don't think i will come back unless this is implemented. Thank you for your your videos, helps me keeping in touch with the game.
Frontier keep quiet about things because they don’t want to reveal just how little there is they’re working on. Their engine has massive limitations and and continues to be a bottleneck for them in terms of new design and content. Just look at last updates, they followed the same philosophy of keeping quiet and delivering very little whilst alluding to big things in the future. Hope is all Frontier have and they’re going to keep milking it until people stop playing. I have a feeling 2022 holds very little for Elite. Fixes, quality of life improvements, performance enhancements (which we know means downgrade to graphics) and a little few things to sprinkle onto the already bland gameplay loops. But I’m sure Arf will still talk about big things to come.
Add something like random like Thargoid attacks in space or in fast travel etc. Something amazing to find on planet surfaces like MORE abandoned sites, thargoid sites and other of unknown origin etc. There is so much untapped potential!!
Frontier is simply unable to move the game forward anymore. They can't do anything properly, they have become incompetent for some reason. Odyssey was just too much for them and the game as a whole is now too complex for them to manage.
The shareholders and board need to get a clue and start firing management. Odyssey and Jurassic World 2 were massive flops and the company has lost about 25% of its value since. They're not just failing customers and fans of these games, they're failing investors (and lying to them). Unless they literally fire all the management and executives responsible for holding the company back, things will never get better. They're not even competent enough to be cynically greedy. Which is impressive.
Any update on VR? I mean they said they’d fix it but the last time I played it even the OLD stuff was messed up to the point where it wasn’t playable at all in VR. Not even talking about the garbage “imax flat screen vr” mode they have in there as a “placeholder” which is such trash it’s unreal, I’m talking about the VR they’ve had all along in horizons that made the game amazing that they have now totally shafted VR players on. The last update we have on that is “there is not going to be an update for VR” so that basically makes me want to demand a refund on odyssey all together. Assuming they haven’t totally jacked up horizons too…
This is my comment from down to earth astronomy's question about if Odyssey will ever come to console... "I reckon they're scared to say anything because of the negative backlash of Odyssey handling. Best case scenario (and I've heard rumours) is that Horizons becomes Odyssey lite with upgraded planet tech and atmospheres. Worst case is that it's cancelled altogether. But the whole console community is fed up with the "when we have news we'll tell you". We understand that current global events have prevented lots of things happening, but this deafening wall of silence is getting hard to bear. If I had money, like most folk, I'd get a pc. But shelling out a grand plus to play 1 game is a bit of an ask, you know?"
Man! I literally just got back to this game a few days ago, i was watching what a ripoff the fleet carrier are on one of your video. I went back to mining and trading, this game has so much potential but the developers are probably ready to abandon it, the latest expansion is not great to be honest, such a shame… I was expecting more pvp content and more ships, also co-op activities and better economic tasks. GIVE ME GOOD AND FUN MISSIONS WITH A DECENT CHALLENGE TO GET A DECENT REWARD!
I been trying to play this game for over 4 years now and the only thing I was happy about was SLF fighters being added and thats it everything else was "meh" at best
As a console player of Elite I have washed my hands of them and there company I will NEVER buy another frounter game I have moved over with my low end laptop and is loving star citizen. I will never go back

I really would love Elite to be great again. To spend hours in this massive universe fully engaged in some interesting activities.
Right now my only contact with this game is via your youtube channel
Question is: Was it ever great? Or was it just potentially great?
Chances are they were already planning on adding more landable planet types and are probably working on it.
Ship interior....what do you want with that? It's just running around and do nothing with it? It wouldn't be like in SC that you need to change the chair for the turrets or carry some cargo boxes around.
I would love to have it too....but I think it's pretty useless in Elite :/
@@neonspark707 Im not doubting you because I know that's some shit FDev would do, but where did they say it?
@@HNTR308 Some things you could do:
Repair your modules without an AFMU - including the power plant, presumably this would cost materials so you might have to land and find them if you're in deep space.

@@michaelc3977 it was a hotfix update so nothing new added and same thing to most of the world
It appears to me that Frontier have really lost their way with Elite.
Name me ONE other FPS game that has a pointless mechanic like that…
@@Malthaelx1 You should change that to "one other TACTICAL FPS game"
Because there's a ton of FPS games that have weapon swaps as key mechanics lmoa
Elite can´t launch ship interiores, they would be competing diretly with Star Citizen in that regard and they know they can´t win

They'd rather spend the time and money on licenses for dinosaurs and building parks =/
To be honest, that's very bad news to console players, again. It's not like current situation makes us even remotely able to even consider a gaming PC and there's a reason why people flocked around Series S: affordability and quality no PC for similar price shall offer.

Above all i'd like to see ANY new gameplay detaching from the same "grind for engineering resources" idea. Breaking that loop of doing the same stuff over and over and replacing it with something unique and.. fun? :P I very doubt it will ever be like that but even on a small scope it'd be nice.
I DO wish E:D has LORE, that could be good ig, but Story Combat can be only in Single Mode Player
Pvp like eve online, players controlling the galaxy
i recently purchased odyssey and im unsure why so much anger is had about grinding for mats. i literally jumped around to different stations and within 2 hours had all grade 3 suits and many grade 2-3 weapons. i can easily do combat zones now, and solo missions with combat are challenging, but not nearly as "impossible" as it was with grade 1 equipment. the "need" to grind seems to just be player perspective on wanting to max everything out and THEN "enjoy" the game. enjoy the game while the mat grinding happens in the background, its actually fun imo.

The difference is that if Elite is gonna do it, then they're gonna do it right, and with less bugs.

@@owenrichards1418 Exactly.... just a disjointed "Space CoD" bolt-on..... Elite has sold its soul.

I like how they plan to do fleet. Carrier interiors but not ship interiors which would go over with much more hype
to be fair, carrier interiors are easier because they would be modified station interiors meanwhile ship interiors are a massive undertaking in comparison and might take several years to make for every (non fighter) ship
@@omegamon0239 they already have the interior models. They just have to improve then
@@saintjames1995 I was more so referring to star citizen levels of interiors but if i recall correctly, frontier has stated that walkable ship interiors will require some reworking on par with implementing fleet carriers
This , and correct VR on foot.
Frontier should put out a half sized carrier (frigate?) for solo explorers. Th upkeep costs is what keeps me (and probably most solo players) from wanting the carriers.
Also something I thought about. Can only park in specific places (to save on system clutter), and only has 1 large, 2 medium and 2 small landing pads.
Excellent idea. Would have massive gameplay scope. Unlikely to be implemented by FDev!
@@HalNordmann exactly.
Thanks for reporting.
Imagine how lively Elite Dangerous would be with crossplay...
Well, except for the fact that you are still limited to having only a handful of players in the same "instance"
not at all. most people scream GANKER when encountering a player in open and switch to solo
Terror. There's a very high difference between 60 and 120 fps, let alone 45 vs 120 fps. They can make a huge difference in PVP scenarios. :/
Next to no one is playing on consels anyways it's so dead
Instead it's just another "go gather this via the same stuff as always then go play our slot machine"
The Power struggle mechanic should of been another thing that was constantly worked on, added too, and made to have more depth, but it's just yet another mechanic with amazing potential that is barely struggling to be more than entirely pointless.

I'd like to see better frame rate. Especially for VR
Mr. Ant, you're anything but negative. I've always appreciated your positive/neutral angles when discussing disasters in Elite.
If Elite is supposed to be an income for them, they should maybe start listening to their player base.
How do you think we got space legs and "atmospheric planets"?
I want to see more multi role missions where you need more people to complete it. It would be nice to have someone in a fighter running air support for the team moving attacking in a SRV.
They continue to be silent to the community, one of the things that are killing the playerbase. I was hoping that they would learn with the trainwreck that odyssey release was but it seems fdev won't ever change. I moved to SC, where the dev team is much more engaged with the community and it's awesome
I wish I could play star citizen but I can’t afford an amazing gaming rig that can handle it. SC is a better game though

Same. I love Odyssey and I will still be playing regularly in 2022
ObsidianAnt, I love your content and had to walk away from Elite Dangerous when they dropped VR support.
It’s just one of the most wanted feature for elite, and it would make the game way more immersive.
because FC's are stationary objects within their own zone. They don't know how to make non instanced ship interiors.
@@CmdrTigerKing lol "they don't know how" is so funny to me, even though it's an understandable reason
it's true though. They have their game running off Python but have no python engineers.
For consoles there is also option 4 - and I would distinct it from 3 because if true, frontier are barred from releasing at at least one console completely - it didn't get through Microsoft or Sony testing suits. Which would corelate well with the fact that they are so focused on patches.
1. fix the game
2. ship interiors
im a simple man
As to your comment about what I'd love to see, this is my short list...
1. ship interiors - such large ships should have some rooms etc. Its basically the players own little house unless you own a Fleet Carrier then it just a shed.
2. Some sort of crafting - fire arms, weapons, ship components, suits, furniture, electronics or white goods for your ship. I could see loosing hours on this.
3. Maybe some first person quests
4. Racing - be it space, hover bikes or cars with some sort of race tracks - some of these areas would make mad race tracks... Yeah yeah a bit starwars but admit it it would be cool
5. Gambling on any type of war or race. Win it big or lose it all..
6. Fpv drones - it's the space age, they must have drones that can be flowen. Would be great for recon, racing and plain old fun.
I could go on and on...
What i want to see is, some amazing physx like storms, sand storms in the atmospheres like desert planets in sometime!
Just noticed a bit of your voice over work at Obsidian Orbital in Maia System. Your vids are my go-to for ED Info, thanks.
After experiencing the great ship interiors offered by SC I can safely say I'll never fire up ED ever again. Never realized how immersive it could be until I experienced it done really well. could never go back to being strapped into my seat for eternity. Fleet carrier interiors lol??....too little too late im afraid.
Am i the only who loves your videos and the calmness in your voice? I sometimes put one of your videos to fall asleep lol
Ship interiors. Always and forever, ship interiors.
I'd like to see the option of positive interaction with thargoids. Maybe there are factions within thargoids that aren't homicidal.
You can now feed grenades to barnacles.
Thanks dude for speaking up for consoles. It means a lot to thousands of us here waiting.probably the longest person I’ve been subbed to on you tube!
I would love to see a small calm mini-game for the collection of genetic samples, instead of the scan 3 things while standing still. A mini-game similar to the code braking from ME2 with genetic materials could be very suitable.
Let's just hope we have elite dangerous for many more years. Happy New Year.
I’d like to see a specific release for next gen console, full ship interiors and stability in wings and multi crew. All the best for 2022 OA.
It's your content and Galnet Digest that kept me interested in ED during an extended break from the game. Thank you
To be honest, it's all out there as clear as day for everyone to see.
Exactly this. Well said.
Thx for these nice pictures of the phantom. My favorite ship. Currently exploring in Odin‘s Hold, 70lys at a time.
Thanks for doing this! So many have left already
I remember in 2019 I said that in 2 years SC will begin to overtake Elite. From this point on, it will only go downhill for FDev.
Great work again mate! Many thanks!
Until the full game is back in VR, I'm boycotting. Cheers.

How about more immersion with factions? Running together with NPC's in on-going missions and storylines?
I haven't played the game in years, but I still watch your videos on it. I've been here since your 3301 episodes.

Anyway thanks for all your content. I'll be checking it out for tips.
I uninstalled ED when they said no ship interiors, best gaming related decision I've made in years. 💪
Ship interiors, of course. They could release them one at a time starting with Sidewinder; I can imagine a huge number of pilots would be in Sidewinders if that happened.
Until they manage VR for odyssey, I'm not even loading the game.
Star Citizen is badically unplayable on anything other than super high end pcs because it is an unoptimized buggy mess.
@@MrRocksW That's a myth. Watch Drew's videos. SC definitely needs optimising but it also definitely doesn't need a top end PC. And Lance is right IMO.

Beautifully Done !
Assuming they haven’t totally jacked up horizons too…
Not really. They said they might revisit it after everything is fixed. Same as console.
I went back to mining and trading, this game has so much potential but the developers are probably ready to abandon it, the latest expansion is not great to be honest, such a shame…
I was expecting more pvp content and more ships, also co-op activities and better economic tasks.
