I just discovered this reaction...I'm glad this is still going around. I was at this show...holy crap. I balled my eyes out! Teresa actually sat in the row in front of us, and I watched security come and escort her up during the song. Truly an amazing moment...not only was Garth a class act, but so were the people running the show that night. Another tidbit...this was the second show he did that night, and what you're watching happend at like 2am...no joke.

Yep. I wasn't at that show, but that comeback tour would have like 11 or more days in a row, most having 2 shows/night. He'd keep putting up more dates until they weren't selling out so fast to give anyone that wanted to come a chance. Garth is the definition of Class in today's industry. No wonder he's the number one selling solo artist ever and has about every other record one can have in the industry.

I apologize for not writing for awhile. I am doing well and coming up on my 4 year anniversary of being in remission on January 12th. I thank God everyday that I’m still here and pray for the families and friends that are without their loved ones. I am so very excited to watch Garth’s special on Sunday! It is going to be amazing! I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and remember to enjoy “The Dance”. Blessings

I saw him as an older brother and mentor. He taught me how to present myself. The song had nothing to do with him it just happened to be playing on the radio as I was looking off into the distance driving home.

Here's the lyrics. I wish you could see the video. "The Dance"
Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared 'neath the stars above
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye
    And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss the dance
    Holding you I held everything
    For a moment wasn't I a king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have changed it all
    And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss the dance
Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss the dance

This here, is why we love Garth. Or at least, one of the reasons. He may be a pain in the butt when it comes to copyright (I'm pretty sure you're safe with this one since the video itself has been up for so long ) and I'm hoping that at some point, he won't be quite as much of a pain in the butt when it comes to his songs being on youtube, but there is no doubt about how much he loves his fans and just people in general.

    From the Detroit Register ...
"Shaw, 48, of Mason City, learned that she officially entered remission for her triple-negative breast cancer. And now, with Brooks set to perform in Des Moines for the first time in 23 years, she has plans to re-connect with the country star, who lost his mother and sister to the disease, before one of his shows at Wells Fargo Arena."
Additionally, she seem to feel really good about it ...
"Jan 01, 2017 · I beat cancer so why not climb Mt Kilimanjaro?!?!?" ...
"When I heard about the mission/adventure trip to Mt Kilimanjaro, I immediately filled out an application. I was so excited and honored to be chosen to go. I can’t thank my employer, First Citizens Bank, enough for the support that they have given me. Financially, I wouldn’t have been able to go on this trip without the employees’ donations." ...
"On January 12th [2017], on Mt Kilimanjaro, I will be celebrating 2 years of remission! As Tony Arata wrote and Garth sang 'I could have missed the pain, but I’d have had to miss the dance.'"

Saw him in the very early 90s when he was 2nd billing for The Judd's Farewell Tour and he seems to be today just as he was back then ----- very human; probably one of the most loyal and emotional in regards to his fans out of all. I'm so proud of him and the way he uses himself and position in society to share that humanity.
I appreciate your acknowledgement of that as well...thank you! And thank you too for the reminder of how life IS just a dance and we surely don't want to miss this. 🙂

Yes. Finally the "real" Garth. I remember somehow you had trouble with his vids and got stuck playing covers of Garth in past. This is a beautiful song and what a lovely video. God bless Garth and all those suffering from cancer. Thank you MRM.

My husband was a pretty good singer himself and loved Garth Brooks' music. He passed away 3 years ago and this song ALWAYS makes me remember him and "our dance!" His loss still hurts and forever will but I know he his now having his "dance" in heaven!

THIS IS Garth Brooks! He is VERY personable at his shows. I went to 3 shows on his first tour back. something very similar happened like this at his Indianapolis show. He always does something in the cities where he performs too for children's hospitals and such.

I used this song for a picture compilation video of my fiance who passed from cancer 14 years ago. It was perfect, the lyrics suited him. He lived life to the fullest until the very end of his time here. I was truly blessed to spend every moment I had with him.

The song reminds me of the time when my husband was killed in a car wreck. I cry every time I hear it, but I was blessed with two beautiful daughters from that marriage of 10 years.

You always ask what we were doing when this or that song came out or what a song meant to us. I had a hard time watching the original video...it showed a young man who was a friend of my kids, just before he was killed in a rodeo accident (Lane Frost). Jump ahead a few years and it is the funeral for my first grandson)...and this song is played. Twenty-two years later and I am sitting on the train, on my way to work, crying like a baby while I type this. This song by Garth ALWAYS gets to me. (Oddly enough, I can listen to other folks versions. )

@@Modern-Renaissance-Man I worked at the Mesquite Rodeo when my kids were young (they are a little older than you). Lane, Tuff, Cody...they were all regulars there and really great with the kids. That movie stuck pretty close to fact. Luke Perry even went to rodeo school so he would be convincing.

This one opened up the flood gates, a goodbye song at his funeral. I bet I dream of yah tonight.

This is from his come back tour, he had guit touring and recording for over a decade. He started touring and recording again in 2014 until 2017 on his come back tour. Garth often has people at his concert come up during that song and he sings it to them. He also is known for his going to hospitals ect to offer comfort or visits with people who have reached out to him during thier struggles..

This was my mother’s favorite song. When the Cleveland Indians won their division in 1995 by 30 games, they played this at the Jake. We had just lost my mother at 53 and suffice it to say I sobbed my eyes out. ESP since she loved her Tribe.
