This is so common, back splash areas get destroyed when old tiles are removed and people don’t know how to put the walls right again before re tiling, it’s just asking for trouble if it’s not done correctly. This video is great!

Hi Mr Drywall. From my understanding everything about drywall was designed around minimizing expense. 4x8 sheets, tape, mud are all cheap. Labor is cheap (sqft / $), when compared to other wall finishes, when done by an experienced professional. I do not see how this method of scabbing in patches is cheaper than reinstalling full sheets. The extra expense of your time to square off all of the holes, add backing where no studs exist, and tape and mud that jigsaw puzzle had to be much more than the alternative. Heck, one bucket of thin set mud to skim coat equals the cost of 2 sheets of new drywall, then the skim coating could have been skipped! Can you help me figure out the math? I will be starting this job in my kitchen soon. Thanks.

sheetrock is just a fill in obviously you haven't followed the channel long enough drywall is about the mudding and texturing, and honestly if you have to watch UA-cam videos on how to do it you should probably hire professional

@@steverrada I agree with your logic but not necessarily because of cost reasons. What your suggesting actually might cost more but insignificant. Based on my experience, instead of cutting out all those small squares and taking the time to patch them all in like a mosaic, it would have been much easier to just cut one large rectangular piece or whatever then do your tape and mud. (ex. Cut out one 3x5 or whatever size to cover area of repair) So actually, I guess you could still make the cost argument cause it would have saved time but more importantly to me, make the job less tedious and time consuming. But like you said, cost of those materials are insignificant compared to the time, effort and frustration it takes to do the work.
