Del Curtis, 23, paying his dues in 1968 at WSTV-TV9 in Steubenville OH. He also worked at stations in Youngstown OH and Pittsburgh PA before he joined the Army. Then he made his mark in 1970 in New York City as Del DeMontreaux. For a time during the 90's the Brooklyn native was the public address announcer at Shea Stadium before being sidelined by a stroke in 1999.

It is so clear that these kids were asked to apply restraint. You can see they were capable of carrying out some serious moves if they were allowed to. This is the best of the TEEN TIME videos so far.

Look how far away they dance from each other. Hardly even look at each other. Sure looks fun though.

Horse fever?, is that similar to the bird flu? Also would have liked to see them dance to the Marvelettes record!

I am confused, and I mean no harm, but where are the other people that I saw in the other clips? Is this like HAIRSPRAY where the show had Negro Day? Seriously, I am not cracking any jokes. I am just curious. I know it was a different time and era. For the record, I am enjoying the clips no matter who is dancing. It is great to see, especially someone like me who was is curious and into the music and dancing during this time period.

That’s the way it was unfortunately. People weren’t ready to see blacks and whites dancing together. So they take the white kids out and put the black kids in for different songs. Or maybe they felt the black kids would dance better to this song than the white kids.

Destination Anywhere was a great single, by the Marvelettes. A pity we couldn't seen the dancing for that and yes, Del was right, they never made a bad record.

In later years, Del Curtis would go on to WHN, the all-time number 1 country station, under the name Del DeMontreux.

Wow! Didn't know. I used to listen to him on WHN, the only country station in NYC for years.

Frankie Lymon dancing with a white girl in July of 1957 got Alan Freed's ABC show The Big Beat cancelled. Would that be the instance of braodcast barriers being broken down? Bandstand got blacked out in Baltimore and other markets for allowing black teenagers to dance on the show, altho not with white teenagers. The Buddy Deane Show in Baltimore would allow Colored Day every other Friday, where black teens could dance.

They weren't applying any restraint, it is Ohio! If you want to see kids dance really cool, watch the clips from the Jerry Blavat shows in Philly, The "Disco phonic scene". Philly ruled!
PS: American Bandstand eventually broke the color line in 1958, and I am sure this effected some sponsorship from local advertisers, however, because A.B. was telecast nationally on ABC it didn't effect the shows ratings much. There were some boycotts in Philadelphia though, it didn't last long though.

Who the hell cared back then if it was blacked out in Baltimore! None the less Dick Clark prevailed and persuaded the sponsors to ride it out, The Philadelphia Inquirer was the biggest sponsor for the show in Philadelphia, you need to do some research about Bandstand's Philly years!

~ Satellite Discotheque in 1968!! Horse Fever & Destination Anywhere still fun & fresh songs in 2018. Clubs all over the world play this music. Not so much the clothes and hair featured here thank goodness. "Switch It On" was better in 1969, but neither really made any impact on the charts '68-'69. Neither did the Marvelettes classic mentioned at the end: Motown kinda let the Sophisticated Soul album die, and that pretty much was it for the wonderful Marvelettes. Music history is fun ~ Cheers, DAVEDJ ~

Eh, there's nothing special about these kid's dancing, it's pretty stiff, jitterbuggers of the 40s would knock this out of the park.

Yes you're right. In the UK and they seem to love bringing up the past to beat someone else with. They're not that liberal believe me, they just think they discovered black music. France was hip to it before the UK. As Richard Temple said "Young America has been responsible for most of the world's dance crazes..." Amen.
The kids just dance. In the earlier clips they seem much younger than this one so you can't expect them to be "disco" dancing as such. They're just nice kids, all of them

@sudaev does liberal mean being a person? or is it unusual enough that you have to label it?
