@jackman79 - Could be? Sure feels like cast metal of some kind to me but I did not put a file to it. Definitely nicer than the new plastic regardless IMO. Keep those old ones. Thanks for the comment.
I'm with you on not using the ratchet. I never trusted ratchets to apply the proper pressure when making precision measurements. I guess you could calibrate the mike to the tension applied by the ratchet and that would hopefully give you repeatability but would it give you an accurate measurement? I would rather trust my feel.
Robert Lark - in theory, if you use the ratchet to set the mic to the standard then it should be “exact” repeatability, but that feel of getting it centered on your piece, making sure you are not cocked to the side and sticking just seems easier when you are in full control. Thanks for the comment.
Good job 😊
Gary Chaiken - Thanks! Appreciate the comment.
I've got some 30+ year old dark green mitutoyo mics and im pretty sure the lever on mine are also plastic, they are just chrome plated.

Plastic? On a high dollar tool? Plastic just doesn’t feel right. Thanks for sharing.
TAWPTool - Yes, I was a little surprised when it showed up. Oh, well easy fix, and the larger mic rarely gets used. Thanks for the comment.
Can't believe they went with plastic. What a pity.
EZ shop - Yes, not sure why they would do that. Guess the cost savings adds up. I am sure it comes down to $$.
disappointing to see plastic on a quality tool. Seems like a simple part that could be punched out of some thick sheet steel
@mattymcsplatty5440 - I agree, a precision machinist measuring tool should have precision machined parts on it. Thanks for the comment.
Mitutoyo is too rich for my blood.
Francis - Fair enough, the others tools I have from them have lasted a long time so they do hold up for the money.
@@BladesIIB Oh, yeah they're definitely the best of the best and they'll last generations.
Really?
Wags - Which part, that they are really plastic?
