I use a palomar knot for the tail hook... This way the bait will not get ripped, and you can keep some extra line in the knot ( the tag).... If that makes sense

*Fun little bait great for ponds. This thing casts really well for its size, I was surprised. Good for when you need to downsize and gets smaller fish to commit*

In Cali, the DFG stipulates that the 2nd hook can be no more than 5" behind the lead hook, his suggested 6" trail for the stinger hook will be in violation of the regs. I position my stinger so that the crook, not the eyelet, of the stinger is at the base of the V-notch, or if the bait is big I'll move the crook forward and only pass the crook through the tail section in order to get it to stay put. Maybe not ideal, but I follow the regs.

You should just move out of California it's easier then following some of their regulations

A little on the large size but will work for lake fishing.

Seems the right and left sides are mixed up. The first hook goes out the right side of the bait and the second hook starts on the left side and comes out on the right side. But the hooks are on opposite sides of the bait.

Gamikatsu octopus hooks are what they use. I wouldn’t use anything less. I’ve broken hooks on big fish. Gami is the only way to go.
