Watched this video last year and liked it so much, I saved it on the watchlist. Hooked onto one pretty good last season, but I tied a bad knot and lost it at the swivel. So glad I saved this to watch again, because over the long off season, I forgot your awesome method for the egg loops. I’ve been making up Kokanee cut plugs and hootchies with this method too. Thanks for a great video. Well done!
I’m going to try this on the mini Brads for lake trout and landlocked. Probably a #2 hook. Will use your setup for salmon this fall in the Sacramento River.
Thank you for this video. Just returned from silver salmon fishing Valdez Alaska. Tied up the brads the way you suggested. Put them behind Dixie diver/flasher/snubber. Yesterday we averaged one silver per half hour trolling. All on board except myself new to trolling. We had 14-16 solid strikes and 11 silvers plus 2 pinks for total of 13 fish landed. Never ever had that close to 100% landing rate even with my fishing buddies who have trolled for salmon for many many hours We even had 2 double hookups with one of those both fish got on board the boat Thank you again
Been using the little Brad’s Kokanee cut plugs for kokes and trout and picked up the bigger ones for fall salmon. Wasn’t sure how to set them up, but I will give this a try. Thank you for the good explanation of the hook tying method!
Landed my first Brad's Cut Plug salmon this past Monday rigging it the way you showed in this video. Thank you for thoroughly explaining the entire setup in this video and your other video!
Great video, slow, step by step. Even I was able to follow your directions. Thank you. One more good idea my fishing buddy has. At Walmart in the crafts section he found 2"x 3" zip lock bags, perfect for pre-tied leaders.
I really like these cut plugs in saltwater. No scratchbait to worry about. I think this is the best hk positioning Ive seen yet. Mine is 1 in the garage and 1 at the tail but this makes more sense (short bites) just ordered 2 new colors - jackpot &Mt. Dew. 1 tip I just saw & liked - go to grocery store and buy a tube of anchovie paste (instead of canned tuna), clean & ez. Thx. Watched all your vids and this set up is the 1 Im trying this Spring.
Thanks for this video, the loop to hold the rubber band is geat, I have been killing Coho here in Anacortes using a brads, no more $11 packs of herring to buy anymore.
Great lookin hook setup man.. well done video... were ordering some brads super baits blanks and gonna custom paint them looking fornways to rig them and this way looks phenomenal thanks for the tutorial
The needle points dont cut a hole in the fishes lip like the cutting point. This is a great set up - I redid about a dozen Brads this way. Be nice to see you do a video on scents, fillets etc., maybe even do details on flasher bumper length strength & rigging. On party boats its pretty much in line flashers behind weight releases but Ive got at least a dozen different pattern flashers & think its a far better presentation.
I always used the full size ones. The colors that worked best seemed to change from week to week, but a few that were consistently good were "Black Jack" and "Double Take". In the early morning before the sun was too bright, "Glow Bloody Nose" or "Glow Ghost Green Dot" seemed to produce.
Owner hooks the # is important for size. Little hooks pull out of mouth not set good enough. Also use cutting point they have flat spot by point. Helps when fish head is thrashing back and forth . Lost lot on needle point which are round.
I've had these lures since they hit the market and this is same way i've had to do it - by running the line through the band. If you rig it the way the company recommends, you'll lose that rubber band tubing and whatever you have inside the lure every time you get a fish and then some because they randomly open up too. If you want to keep it loose, you can space out the hook with beads and tubes to push the hook back behind the rubber band.
I agree with the non flourecarbon lines. Not needed. Never bought into the line insecurity of thinking it matters for salmon. It’s 99% gimmick in my opinion.
The forward hook uses the egg loop to hold the rubber band in place. The back hook you could use a regular snell if you want. I just thought it's easier to do the same knot 2x instead of different knots for each hook
I do. Only time i’ve had a problem with this setup is when I used a leader that was tied a couple seasons ago, in which case, any leader may break with older and more brittle line.
I've never used them for casting. They are fairly light, so i'm not sure if they would even work for casting. I have heard of people using a sinker with a swivel a couple feel above the weight and then clipping a snap onto the line with a leader going to a cutplug and letting it "trolley" down the line until it hits the swivel.

Great to here, glad you guys had some good action!

That's awesome man! I will be out there next week, taking my dad and kid out... the salmon are in the Sac now!
Thanks for taking the time out of your day to make this video for us Valley/Delta fisherman.
Thanks for the tip! Tried it out towards the end of the season last fall. 2 solid hook ups in a row using this!
WOW...Great info...This one was hard to find again, but it is really great! Best how to tie rig brads cut plug
This is the best video on how to rig these. Thanks for taking the time to record this.
Great tutorial for a cut plug set up. Many thanks...was very easy to see and understand. Would like to see more .

Yup saw that same tip & have a tube of anchovie in the box.
I like that the rubber band stays with the leader. Otherwise those babies have a knack for disappearing.

Awesome, glad it's working for you. They closed the Salmon season in California this year 😞
Great presentation! thank you looking forward to a good year, your excellent demonstration will certainly help ✌️🇺🇸
Great tutorial Sir I've just recently came across these plugs and have wrestled with I good way to rig them for salmon. Thanks
Very well explained and demonstrated. Thx! 👍🙏🎣⚒
Great lookin hook setup man.. well done video... were ordering some brads super baits blanks and gonna custom paint them looking fornways to rig them and this way looks phenomenal thanks for the tutorial
I like that! I’m going to try that one thanx!!
10/10 video, extremely helpful! Thank you!

Excellent video. Thanks for the tip.
Thank you for the tutorial. Looks like a solid setup. I will give it a try.
Thanks for the info. Great help.
Awesome I’m going to try this thanks man
What are your suggested size and colors of Brads cut plugs??
I always used the full size ones. The colors that worked best seemed to change from week to week, but a few that were consistently good were "Black Jack" and "Double Take". In the early morning before the sun was too bright, "Glow Bloody Nose" or "Glow Ghost Green Dot" seemed to produce.
@@bayareaangler5103 Thank you for the intel... much appreciated! And great vids by the way!!
That seems like it would effect the roll of the plugcut?
Owner hooks the # is important for size. Little hooks pull out of mouth not set good enough. Also use cutting point they have flat spot by point. Helps when fish head is thrashing back and forth . Lost lot on needle point which are round.
Thanks for the info, i'll have to try out the cutting points.
Thanks. Great Video
Good video ! Does the hook attached by rubber band affect the spin ?
No, when I drop it in the water, the action is still as it should be

I have that same shirt got it in mexico
I agree with the non flourecarbon lines. Not needed. Never bought into the line insecurity of thinking it matters for salmon. It’s 99% gimmick in my opinion.
So what’s point of doing egg loops knots ? Can I just do snell knots on those two hooks ?
The forward hook uses the egg loop to hold the rubber band in place. The back hook you could use a regular snell if you want. I just thought it's easier to do the same knot 2x instead of different knots for each hook
Bay Area Angler 510 ok I see its to hold the rubber band got ya thanks I will work on it
Do you still think this is the best way to tie them?
I do. Only time i’ve had a problem with this setup is when I used a leader that was tied a couple seasons ago, in which case, any leader may break with older and more brittle line.
Can u show us ur setup when just casting ?
I've never used them for casting. They are fairly light, so i'm not sure if they would even work for casting. I have heard of people using a sinker with a swivel a couple feel above the weight and then clipping a snap onto the line with a leader going to a cutplug and letting it "trolley" down the line until it hits the swivel.
