Thank you for your love and support!
These are just awesome!! Thank you so much for your help and inspiration. I’m 35 and so I’m a bit late to start ice skating and it’s so helpful for me to have some videos that give such easy to follow drills. Also I’m in Australia so we don’t have that many coaches and your explanations and structure is really making it easier for me to build confidence. Thanks a million!! I’ll keep practicing and look out for the next video!
Your videos are a godsend!! There's nothing like them! I'm learning from UA-cam videos and you've come along with these and they're so helpful thank you
Thank you so much for these videos! I'm taking group adult 1-6 lessons at my local ice rink, however, I've been having trouble keeping up with the others around me (I'm only 15 and the others are over 20) these videos have been helping me out so much! 💕✨
You're great skate coach Mary! 👍🏻. I'm looking at getting back into skating(after stopping at DELTA level two decades ago 😂). Thanks for all the tips. Keep up the great work 👍🏻😊🙏
Oh yay! You are doing basics levels videos! I am in adult basic 5. The frustrating part for me is my left side is so much weaker than my right side. For example, i can do 3 turns counter-clockwise and backward cross overs counter-clockwise, but barely or not at all going clockwise. Tips to strengthen and gain flexibility for our weaker side would be great! Another thing i struggle with is the two foot turns clockwise. I have to slow down to a stop to turn. Counterclockwise is easy though.ugh...🤦♀️
I struggle with this as well! Something I do that has helped (I'm adult 6 / beginner level) is that I always do my bad side first. I used to always practice my good side first and as a result I'd do like 20 repetitions in my good side, then less on my bad side because I'd get frustrated. Now my checklist for daily practice always says "do 10 bad side first, then do 10 good side". With my power pulls, I've actually switched my bad side to be my good side! Time to work on my "old" good side again :)
Denise P I have similar issues, my left inside/outside 3 turns are so much better than my right, I basically just turn in circles on my right and with my back crossovers, my counter clockwise is better than my clockwise ones

I am fixing to take learn to skate lessons and get into figure skating. I am a male 37. Excited to see what happens. Love these videos. I can watch these and play with this stuff in public skate and be ahead of the class in the next lesson and hopefully advance quickly. I am also an equestrian and ride English doing eventing and know how to snow ski, Will any of that make figure skating easier or help me advance quicker than the others that don’t do that? I see it uses the core and most of what riding does but never figure skated.
Just curious, why do you teach high free leg extensions for begginer skaters when typically they don't have enough core control, flexibility, balance to hold their leg that high/long until more advanced skills have been mastered? Just curious
How is forward slalom in Basic 3 different from Curves in Basic 2? I just watched your Basic 2 video, and the bonus skill (Curve) in there look quite similar. Thank you in advance!
Hi...first of all thanks for all the great videos they help me a lot~ I'm from Germany, skating isn't as popular here so we barely have coaches and no classes so I have to learn everything on my own. I follow the US figure skating basic skills program so your videos are great:)) I'm currently in high school, after school I'd like to go to the US for a few months or a year and work and learn figure skating properly with a coach. I've been looking at the Learn to Skate USA website but I don't quite get it how I would apply for lessons... For example, do I have to pass some kind of test if I want to apply for example Basic 4 rightaway or do I have to do all other classes before, even though I know those skills already? Do I have to apply for classes at the rink or on the Learn to Skate Website? And I don't know a ton about the different living conditions around the US, so would you recommend any place specifically where I can work and skate for a while? Thanks a lot :))
Thank you for writing! When you move to the US, you can go to any local rink and sign for classes. Almost all rinks offer them for all ages and levels. A coach can see your skating and decide what level is best for you. Feel free to email me and I can help you more!

I'm happy they're helping! I'm working on basic 4/5
You make gliding backwards after your two footed turn look easy. I lose speed after my turn, because my edges need working on.

1:08 Hugging the circle is a cute way to learn the arm position. I forget sometimes, so this helps! :)

I love this advice! Also, do the weaker side twice as many repetitions as the stronger side.

I am so happy that i am getting better at thess moves. I still need to work on them before i got to the next level.
One foot slaloms (or powerpulls - depending where you’re from) and really emphasis correct technique.... 👍🏼👍🏼⛸⛸
I just filmed forward and backward power pulls! My goal is to upload them end of this month

can’t help but notice chlorine by twenty one pilots playing in the background at the start😍
Such a good song!
I noticed that as well!
I'm starting basic 3 next monday im nervous lol
Lmaoo it’s soo fun nil prob the most fun level I think you’ll do well
are slaloms the same as curves?
Amazing video! For the forward pivot is the foot (that isn’t moving) on the blade or is it the spiky bit at the end in the ice?

it does! My skaters who have skiied, rollerbladed, done gymnastics, etc tend to have better balance and control.
What's the difference between Slaloms and Curves?
Could you please do a video on t-stops! for some reason I keep turning when I attempt those

What is the difference of stroking and scooter pushes?

Awesome video! :)
thank you :)
Love your videos! Can you also make a video for level 4 and 5? :)
Thanks so much! I am editing Basic 4 right now. I plan to finish out the whole basic series and then start one for Freeskate too
When I do the moving forward 2 foot turn I end up kind of doing a swizzle instead. What am I doing wrong?
feel free to email me a video and I'll send some feedback!
What should I film next?!?!
Your skating is so beautiful! I love all your videos! I learned three turns thanks to you and some fearless determination to get it.
@Elizabeth Fujioka yes please!
Coach Mary - Figure Skating Tutorials! How about a forward scratch spin?
Loved this video, thank you so much! Could we please continue having more basic learn to skate videos for all levels? 💙⛸
That is my plan!
Is half swizzle pumps the same as half lemon pumps?
I haven't heard of this official name! I think so! I call them lemons/footballs sometimes too

Hi, so I’ve been trying to start to figure skating but I haven’t been able to sign up. Is there anything I can do to start on my own?
Awesome! I recommend a local learn to skate classes or working on marching, swizzles, etc to start! I have a few beginner tutorials online.
Thank you!
Lol here i was thinking i was failing at the scooter lishes bc i couldn't get my leg that extended.
