You help me so much when I'm practicing between lessons and just need a refresher on what I learned last. Thank you for making these videos. You are as much of a coach to me as my in-person one! I especially appreciate the so I motion spins you do!
Your videos have helped me so much. I’m in basic 1 but I’m meant to be in basic 3 or 4 but my ice rink doesn’t have any spots for the higher levels so this really helpsb

Spins and lunges are the hardest for me, ughh... I'm really flexible but my lunges are really so-so. Sometimes they work out, sometimes I fail badly. And spins - I think they're the hardest part of skating for me! But I'll do my best and practice :) Maybe after another month I'll be able to do a nice 2 foot spin!
This is interesting to watch! Only been skating for 3-5 months, and I'm currintly working on imporoving these basic 4 skills. I had no idea what level I wat at haha
Thank you so much! I teach the learn to skate program and found this video very helpful It gave me some new ideas for exercises to help with crossovers!
@@clearwaterivory9627 and to what level does freestyle go? I can already do forward/backward crossovers, outside threeturns, bunny hop, one foot spin (4 turns approximately) some spirals and the basic swizzles, that kind of stuff. I'm working on my jumps right now and sometimes able to do quite good waltz jumps. Trying mohawks and salchows now, but not working out very well yet. What level do you think I'm approximately at?
This might sound stupid but how do I start going backwards and gain speed for the backward one foot glide. I can wiggle backwards and do half swizzle pumps but usually, when I stop doing it to do a 2 foot glide, I end up slowing down very quickly and stopping
I have a question I’m starting skating but I have ice skates without toe picks and they have rocked blades but I got them two years ago will I be able to complete theses skills without figure skates
it depends on the student! for most learn to skate sessions, they are about 6 weeks. some levels take several tries to pass as it is difficult to master all the skills during just 6 practice sessions! those who skate more or take private lessons in addition tend to progress faster.
@@CoachMarySkating This makes me feel so much better. I’ve been so frustrated with myself for struggling to get them down. But this gives me a good reference point on progress.

yes! i am editing basic 5-6 now. next is to tape freestyle!
That's awesome! Can't wait! :D
How does that system work then? It goes up from basic 1-6 and then you're freestyle level?
@@tabithadehaan8405 Not exactly. You go basic one to basic seven - eight. Afterwards you go to freestyle one through three.
