Hi there! Welcome to my channel.
I live in Sweden on the eastern coast, about 250km north of Stockholm. In a town called Söderhamn. This is a good place to live when it comes to landscape photography in Sweden. Because I have the same distance to the northern highlands as to the beech woodlands of the south. And that is what this channel is about. Me capturing Sweden. Eventually I hope I get to travel other countries and explore all of this worlds beauty. That is my passion. Capturing beauty. Through my camera.
In my videos I want to have a calm mood. Our lives are often so stressful. We keep a high pace in everything we do. I want my videos to help you slow down just a little bit. With that said. I do like drama. So there will be videos with higher pace as well :)
A little bit more about me:
I have a full time job as a CNC-operator. Basically I work with automated machines that mills, drills and threads. I do as much photography as I can on my free time.

Today I'm introducing a new series of videos called: Observations. I will do what I normaly do. Capturing photos and video clips. But I will reduce my interaction with the camera to almost none existing. It's a test. To see if that is something you would enjoy watching. The goal is for me to be able to make videos even when my energy and creativity is low. #nature #autumn #photography

Have a Great New Year, Santa.😇
Merry Christmas Thomas! My fav pic has to be the tracks in the snow!
Another difference betweeen the 24 mp & the 45 mp cameras is that the 45mp sensors have no AA filters like the earlier D810. That would contribute to a sharper image.
Great shooting Thomas and what a beautiful day there! I especially like the tree shadow photo, just gorgeous. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Wesołych Świąt Pozdrawiam z Katowic 📸
Hope you have a lovely Christmas and wonderful New Year!
my D800E is arriving next year I'm so excited
Happy shooting! :)
Hi Thomas, great review :) do you mind my asking which Nikon camera you used? Thank you.🙏🏻
Hi Andrew! I use a Z6 for video and a Z7 for still photography. 🙂
@ thank you 🙏🏻
I still miss my Canon 80D. Sold it to get the 90D. Now using the Canon R5. Great cameras. Love the fresh snow on the rocks! Never really see that photo of rocks in the pines taken this way. Enjoyed the video and thanks for sharing!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Its great to have a high Megapixel camera. Like the R5 or Z7. I crop my photos quite often. :)
Enjoyed the video like you started out with a D90, D300s, D610 then a secondhand D800 and D500 for nature photography. Now mirrorless first Z7 now Z8 and Zf. Loved the D800 like you watched Chased the Light video by Jim Brandenburg
Hi Donald! Yes, I also watched that video. Chased by the light. I still go to his website every now and then to get some inspiration. :)
I have owned many but accumulated few cameras. Like you, I’m more likely to pass a camera along to a friend or relative than to hold onto it. I started with a D100 in 2003 and got rid of a D750 just last year. What motivated me to switch is that I like shooting in low light and my eyesight is fading. So the much improved autofocus of recent mirrorless has been helpful to get things in focus using wide apertures. If I had a budget to run a photography club for young people, I’d be inclined to direct students to D700, D750, or D500 as equipment with very high image quality at a great value. I’d also likely encourage them to choose only one prime lens. Not that a zoom isn’t useful, but a fast prime can shoot good photos in nearly any light. And if you start to get bored with one focal length you learn to do things like step way back to give the effect of a “wide” shot with a 50mm. Or step much closer with a 28mm. Only then do you begin to appreciate the importance of creative composition. My hands also don’t fit the Z6/Z7/Zf bodies all that well. The older, larger DSLR bodies fit my hands much better. I miss that but won’t spend the money for a Z8 just for better hand holding. A small grip gets me about 90% of the ergonomics I prefer. I owned extra batteries for my D750 but rarely used them. The battery life of a DSLR is absolutely head and shoulders above mirrorless cameras. I could take my D750 on a weeklong trip and almost not need to charge the battery. Today I don’t leave the house for a day of shooting without an extra battery for my Z6ii or Zf. And perhaps why these old DSLRs have such good memories, camera phones were atrocious. There was a period where having a digital camera was unusual. Then as people became more comfortable being photographed they really appreciated the better quality of a DSLR over their camera phone. Now a new iPhone and its convenience is hard to beat with a dedicated camera. So people kind of shrug if you try to explain the value of a dedicated camera. It’s an odd place in the evolution of photography. I think you need pretty exceptional skill to stand out in image making today. These older DSLRs are from an era where the bar was a little lower for someone to notice that “your camera takes really good photos”. Today you have to be really good at photography for someone to guess it’s the gear doing all the work to find, select, shoot, edit, and present your work.
Thank you for your very insightful comment. I can't think of anything to add to your comment. It speaks for itself and I agree with you. 😀
I haven't found a better one either, the Z7 II lets you clear the screen of clutter but that's about the only benefit for landscape photography over the original Z7. The Z8 and Z9 are too big and bulky and don't offer anything else and you lose the 5:4 aspect ratio. If they ever release a Z7 III I would like to see more aspect ratios e.g. x-pan, 4:3, 6:7, 5:7 and a few others. It would also be nice to be able to choose if the raw file is cropped or if the full 3:2 file with is saved with crop markers. In terms of image quality it's perfect and has a great lens lineup, just a few minor annoyances.
I moved from Pentax K-mount (K100D Super, K-7, K-5, K-3) to Nikon F-mount (D7100, and now D750). Sometimes I think about mirrorless, but lately... I find myself actually thinking about micro four thirds. I know, inferior in many ways. Much smaller sensor, and not really actively developed. But even when I had Pentax, I was looking at it sometimes. And I also have an RX100 V. I could possibly swap that for a Lumix GM1, and run that besides another MFT body like the Lumix GX9. The thing is also, I don't use f/2.8 lenses with my D750. I got the 18-35/3.5-4.5 and 24-120/4. So if I'd get, say, the Lumix 12-35/2.8, I'd only sacrifice 1 effective stop. Still it is a sacrifice though. And I do like my Nikon gear. Regarding Z-mount... sometimes I think about it. But for me, right now, the choice I have to make is how to get to a narrower field of view while not making the gear too big and heavy, and maintaining some level of quality. This would be for wildlife. That's where fullframe makes it a bit hard, especially as with 24MP you don't have endless room to crop. At the same time, for subjects closer by, that fullframe sensor will have more dynamic range or less noise at higher ISOs, so there is still a benefit. If Nikon would have put a 36MP sensor in the D780, I might be inclined to score a used one somewhere. But alas, they did not. The D800/D810 are great, but bigger and heavier.
Hi Peter! Thank you for sharing your story. It's not easy to find the "sweet spot" when it comes to gear. Sometimes I think that manufacturers have a policy not to make a perfect camera. :)
Great insight and enjoy your videos... I have the D850 and haven;'t changed.. Because I don't see changing as an upgrade. I shoot everything in manual and have no need for the features.. If I was going to start photography now... I would go mirrorless.. I used a Z series with Z lenses for two weeks and could not see any difference... also have no need for Video... For me the camera is a tool.... Good photos are taken by the photographer...
Thank you very much Peter! The D850, famous for being the best ever made dslr. No wonder you are happy with it! :) Happy shooting!
I have always been a Pentax shooter, right from the film days. Naturally, I moved to Pentax Digital when I bought my first digital SLR in 2004 - Pentax digital cameras had IBIS even back then which was great as I could use my old K mount film lenses on the digital camera and have them stabilised. I recently decided to upgrade my last Pentax digital camera (K10D) given it is now 17 years old (and still works great ...mostly, the internal battery is starting to fail). I tried a variety of mirrorless cameras but simply could not get used to the EVFs. They make my vision swim and the world seems disjointed when I use them. So I went out and purchased a new Pentax K1ii DSLR. It takes great images, I can use all my old K mount lenses without an adapter and the OVF is bright and a pleasure to use. Tried the mirrorless, but they are not my thing.
Hi Ron! Thank you for telling your story. Glad to hear you enjoy your Pentax and the OVF. I wish you a lot of happy shooting! 🙂
Hi Thomas! Nice video as always! Really enjoyed your historical story! Started with D70 and upgraded to D300 and then D600 with the oilspotted sensor but signifikant improvement in picture quality. Using Capture NX brought amazing pi Ture quality at that time. Then a change to D750 and had to change to LR. First impression was a bit ”same same” likes it after all. Change to D850 and what a fantastic camera i got! The ergonomics, picturequality, shuttersound etc was amazing! Curious on mirrorless so a Z6II was bought and first impression, in many ways a new world, one more time. So many new improvments like ibis and improved viewfinder when shooting at night. Sold the D850 and bought a Z8 and thats again, a significant upgrade in many ways. But heavier and a bit bigger so the Z6II follow me on ”walkabouts”. Happy with the two friends and a bunch of Z lenses but kept my prime F lenses and together with the FTZ works really fine! But…. Still miss the D850 sometimes!
Hi Per! Thank you for sharing your story. I would love to get my hands on a Z8. Mostly for the video performance. Can't afford it right now. But maybe some day I will. Glad to hear you enjoy your Z8 and Z6II. :)
Thank You, interesting story. 🙋🏼
Glad you enjoyed it :)
Thank you all for your comments and stories. It was a very pleasant surprise that so many of you still are using your dslrs. It definitely made me think twice about any future upgrades of camera gear. Do I really need it? Probably not. There have to be some major innovations before I look past my Nikon Z6 and Z7.
I was very late to photography and it was the mirrorless Sony cameras that attracted me into this world… Fujifilm for 5 years. Your trip down memory lane was so enjoyable, it makes me think I should investigate 2nd hand DSLRs I suspect there are bargains to be had? Thank you so much 😊for
Hi Jhonny! That's the beauty of photography. You can get into it at any stage of your life. Everyone can enjoy it! In Sweden you can get a D800 for 500 dollars. A barging indeed. Happy shooting!! 😀
Nice to hear your opinion on these cameras/ systems Thomas and I agree with your points, nostalgia like this can be fun. I still own the D800 and the Z7 also as well as few other Nikon cameras/ lenses and love them all , I took a lot of landscape photos over several years in western Canada with the D800 and I think it did a great job, whether or not my composition are good or not is another story! The Z system has really got some nice improvements though, like you know but the 36 mp F mount image quality was still really good with good lenses. Thankyou for your comparison and that helps motivate me to still want to use my D800 BEAST once in a while for fun !
Hi Derrick, thank you for telling your story. When I got home from that photoshoot with the D800e. I looked closely at the images and I couldn't see anything reveling it was captured with an "old" system. That made me think twice about any future upgrades of camera gear. Cool that you still have the D800! 😀
Yes I like too hold onto some good old things like the D800 it seems so noisy now though , with the newer cameras it is more about other improvements than picture quality ,nice talking to you. 👍
Yes, I do like the overall handling more on the z6 and z7 compared to the D800e. :)
Excellent idea for a video Thomas. My very first digital camera was a Sony DSC-P73 back in 2005. I put thousands of clicks on it. Replaced it with a D200. Wow, what a HUGE step up that was! lol Replaced the D200 with a D800, then a D800e, then a D810 and then a D750. I had a D610 in there somewhere too but didn't really like that one. Then the Z system came along. I bought a used Z6 which got me going. Replaced that with a Z6II and then a Z7II. Now shooting a Zf and Z9 (with a FujiFilm x100vi too). Great fun and memories along the way!
Hi Mike! Thank you for sharing your story. Wow, when you think about it. Nikon has released a lot of cameras in relatively short period of time. Especially since the digital era of photography started. I have been following your trip to Amsterdam on Facebook. Many great photos! Are you back home yet? 🙂
@@ThomasRaskPhoto I agree, they have released so many cameras! I'm happy with what I have right now, can't see a change any time soon. Are you still thinking of replacing your Z7 at some point? Amsterdam is great and we're having a wonderful time. Starting to miss home and our dog. We leave here Thursday. It has snowed a lot since we left home, it will suddenly be winter when we step off the plane lol
I look for a used zf or a z8 like every day. But no, I don't think I will buy a new camera any time soon. I'm very happy with the z6 and z7. 😀
@@ThomasRaskPhoto Well, you've got the most important thing covered and that's your great lens collection. For the type of shooting you do the 6 and 7 seem to do you just fine :)
Yes, I do love my lenses! :)
I moved from my first camera which was a Nikon D5300 to a Sony A7III about 3 months ago now and absolutely love mirrorless now but do miss the shutter sound.
Hi there! Great to hear you enjoy the mirrorless experience. Happy shooting. Thank you for tuning in to my channel this week. 🙂
I am also a Nikon user of both DSLR and mirrorless so this was a great trip down memory lane and reminder of the differences. I'm an amateur hobbyist with smallish hands and as I age and my hands get more beat up, I really appreciate smaller, lighter weight gear!
It really is nice to have gear that isn't that heavy. I wish for future innovation, in the camera industry as a whole, that makes both cameras and lenses smaller and lighter. 🙂
Nice video Thomas. A lot of people will appreciate this. I didn't understand much but still I loved it ) <3
Thank you very much! We photographers love our cameras. We can talk none stop for hours about them. 😀
Hej Thomas! Trevlig video. Hälsningar från Sala Hans-Olof
Hej Hans Olof! Kul att höra att du gillar din Canon. Tack för julkortet! Var det från gömslet vid Gysinge? 🙂
Javisst. 13 örnar samtidigt. En bra gömsledag
Fantastiskt fint foto!
I had an 810, but really miss the 850 I had prior to my Z8. I still own the D70, D80, D200, D7100, D500 and D610 and use them when I want the DSLR experience to go with all the f-mount glass I kept. Thanks for sharing
I kind of regret selling or giving away my old cameras. I should have done what you did. I should have kept some of them. 🙂
Intressant video Thomas.
Hi from other side of the bay. I've owned D800 now 12 years and still no need to upgrade.
Hi Jari! Glad to hear you still enjoy your D800. :)
As someone who has moved from a D500 to a Z8 I agree with everything you are talking about in this video.
Ahhh the Z8. My dream camera. Maybe one day I can afford it. Happy shooting Paul! :)
A nice fun outing, Thomas. Memory Lane can be a fun experience also. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Terry! It was a lot of fun. Got me thinking of all the places I have visited, with camera in hand, over the years. :)
I went through a similar upgrade path .. F3 to D200, to D800, to D810, to D850, and then I didn’t see the improvements on the Z6, Z7 models. Once the Z9 was released I made the jump to mirrorless. Actually the battery life is far better on the Z9 than any of the DSLR models. I have now upgraded all but one of my lenses to the Z models and was still able to get a lot of money for my F glass. The one F lens I still own is not available on the Z yet, and has the FTZ2 attached to it. The Nikon sales lately have been amazing, and I was able to upgrade my glass and still get a lot of money for my pro glass. It really is an investment. And now I picked up the Z8 and even my backup is now mirrorless. Yes, the improvements for hand-holding are amazing … even with the 800mm with teleconverters.
The Z8 is on sale in Sweden. But I still can't afford it just yet. Nice to hear you enjoy the none tripod shooting with your Z system. Thank you for sharing! :)
I had a D850 and it was great for landscapes (and a lot of other photography) I recently bought a used z7 as a backup, as it was lighter, and had most of the same features I used in the D850. So far, I think I may end up using the Z7 and make the D850 my backup.
Both are very good cameras! Have fun with your Z7. :)
Love the barn shots in different conditions
Thank you Donald! 😀
Wow, really liked the three barn pictures! Wish we would get some snow here. With what you got there, makes for different scenery - along with peace and quiet. Thanks Thomas!!!
Hi Bill! Thank you. Right now it's +8 celsius and rain. The snow will be gone by tomorrow. Global warming? Strange times we live in.
Very peaceful video
Glad you enjoyed it Donald! :)
Of the barn photos, the new one with the snow is my favourite of the lot. Beautiful showcase, though, to have shots in all conditions, each one so unique. Could be quite the project...
Thank you very much! I will go back there in spring and summer. :)
That's a great idea - to shoot the same scene all seasons and print it.
I’m waiting patiently for snow here in the US east. One of my favorite times of the year. Btw, what is the hip bag you are using? Do you find it comfortable?
Hi Jesse! It is not very comfortable. I'm looking for a better solution. Any tips? :)
@@ThomasRaskPhoto I've tried a lot of setups from cotton carrier to clips. Nothing is more comfortable than leaving it in a backpack but that is inconvenient and causes friction in the process. I'm using a peak design strap with quick releases on lens then run the strap around the top shoulder straps of the bag and leaving it there. Camera is up front and ready and weight is centered but more strain on upper neck. 🤷🏼♂
Thanks for the tip. I'm actually leaning towards having my tele lens in the backpack. I will for sure miss a lot of wildlife shots. But I'm tired of having that hip bag swinging like crazy when I'm hiking. :)
Hej Thomas! Även Sala fick lite snö i veckan.

Beautiful conditions and great shooting! That little cabin is certainly photogenic. You need a nice springtime shot of it next :)
Hi Mike! Thank you. I will definitely go back there in spring and summer. :)
@@ThomasRaskPhoto It's a great spot. The fallen tree adds so much to the scene.
Hello Thomas. You have snow! There is no snow yet where I live in the United States. I’m looking forward to some winter landscape shots as winter goes on.
Hi there! Indeed I have. But it will not last for long. Warmer weather next week. :)
Very nice with the snow.🙂👍❄️ There will be snow where I live tomorrow ❄️👍
Hi Stig! I hope you can get out and capture it. :)
10:41 is very nice.
Thank you Jesse! :)
