In the video I say that I rank a high megapixel count as my number one feature on a landscape photography camera. Keep in mind that is my personal preference. If you have a Z6 and do landscape and you are happy with 24mp. Stay happy! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. 😊😊

In 2018, I bought the Nikon Z7, to this day it has been my companion (I still use some canon glass with adapter (canon glass on a Nikon body :D). I really love it, and as you, I have been struggling to find a reason to upgrade it...Yes Z8 is tempting, but I'm not so sure it would be an image quality upgrade...maybe down the road I'll get one. I really liked your video, and it has made me remember how much I love this camera. Thank you. Subscribed!

I haven't found a better one either, the Z7 II lets you clear the screen of clutter but that's about the only benefit for landscape photography over the original Z7. The Z8 and Z9 are too big and bulky and don't offer anything else and you lose the 5:4 aspect ratio. If they ever release a Z7 III I would like to see more aspect ratios e.g. x-pan, 4:3, 6:7, 5:7 and a few others. It would also be nice to be able to choose if the raw file is cropped or if the full 3:2 file with is saved with crop markers. In terms of image quality it's perfect and has a great lens lineup, just a few minor annoyances.

Another difference betweeen the 24 mp & the 45 mp cameras is that the 45mp sensors have no AA filters like the earlier D810. That would contribute to a sharper image.
I had a D850 and it was great for landscapes (and a lot of other photography) I recently bought a used z7 as a backup, as it was lighter, and had most of the same features I used in the D850. So far, I think I may end up using the Z7 and make the D850 my backup.
I did buy the Nikon Z8 which is a great inspiring camera with lots of improvements which I appreciate for different situations but I am keeping my Z7 which I have happily owned since shortly after it came out, for landscape, cityscape and for other situations where it's smaller ,lighter more stealthy qualities are nice ,I think the photo quality is the same .Like you said for landscape and some other things it has the necessary performance for that ,though the portrait orientation tilt screen is nice for almost anything, love them both.
I bought my Z7 with one of the used gear retailers for USD1,000 plus tax. It was rated "as new" and came with a six-month warranty. What a bargain. The main reason I wanted a Nikon high megapixel landscape camera is to pair it with the 12-120mm S lens. There is no comparable lens like this for full frame in any other system. Perfect landscape combination - that lens basically lives on my camera.
Thomas: What fluid head are you using? Now that I have a leveling ball, I am thinking of using a fluid head for my landscape work. Thanks for the videos, I love the mood!
I keep thinking you know I really could shoot the Z7. AF performance isn't an issue with how I shoot. Landscapes 99% of the time and some street. Maybe picking up a good used camera at lower cost would work.
Great combo! I have no experience with the D850. But what I can see from reviews is that it has vary similar image quality as the Z7. If you are interested in mirrorless cameras. A Z7 is a good choice. The EVF is a totally different experience. I moved from a D810 to Z7. It took me a while to get used to the EVF. But I don't regret the switch. I'm never looking back. 😀
@@terrywbreedlove FYI. I moved from the D850 and have a Z6II, Z7, and Z8. If you love your D850 ... the Z8 is an ideal match. Control layout is very similar to the D850. The AutoFocus system would be a significant improvement with your 200-500 on the Z8 over the Z7.
The Z6 is also a great camera! I have one and I use it a lot. Both for video and photos. But I can't crop my photos as much with the Z6. So if you feel like you want to crop more then the Z7 for sure is a upgrade. :)

I really do love my 7ii and at the moment can't see any reason to move to a different body. Although, I did buy a used Df a week ago :) I think a lot of photographers are waiting to see what Nikon will release next ie. Z6 III/7III? Who knows!

Not sure what my problem is but it will pass at some point. We photographers do like to talk about gear from time to time! :)
Without a camera, no photos. So it's only natural that we pay them some attention. :) I hope you get your inspiration back. Do you have a favorite photographer? Maybe look at his/hers photos. That helps me sometimes.

I go to Nikon Cafe for the photos and DPR for the gear talk :) I really like Thomas Heaton, Nigel Danson, Omar Gonzalez, Gary McIntyre, James Popsys, and a guy named Thomas Rask. I. think he's in Sweden ;) There's a few street photographers who's images I admire ie. Alan Schaller who shoots exclusively B&W with a wonderful Leica. Faizal Westcott and Samuel Hopf. There's not much street life to shoot around here so I never do but would love to try. Laura and I are contemplating a trip to Amsterdam later this year which would be a perfect setting for some architectural and street shooting. I need to get myself out of this rut long before then though Lol

Jag bytte från Nikon D850 till Nikon Z7 ii. Anledningen var att jag ville ha en mindre och lättare kamera och tillgång till en 14-30mm objektiv som tar vanliga filter. Jag har också nu mindre och lättare objektiv. Klarar mig för det mesta med 14-30F4 och 24-120F4. Har också ett äldre Nikon 70-200F4 som jag tar med ibland. Väntar fortfarande på ett lätt Z70-200F4. Det jag saknar är: * Skärm som kan vinklas även i vertikalt läge * Programmeringsbara menyer i sökare och skärm. Använder bara vattenpass och histogram. Vill inte bläddra förbi de andra. * En box i menyn där jag kan bestämma om kameran ska beskära bilden eller inte när jag använder andra format, t ex 5:4. * Gärna formatet 4:3. Saknar det formatet ibland när jag komponerar bilden. * Gardinen framför sensorn när man byter objektiv. Verkar vara en smart uppfinning. Fina bilder som vanligt. Själv börjar jag planera inför lövsprickningen i bokskogarna här nere i söder. Är nog inte allt för långt borta nu.

I still use my Nikon Z6. It deliever but I get the megapixel weakness. Then it seems I have good reasons for looking for a upgrade 😉

I compared Nikon D40 with D850 and I used the same expensive lens($2000) on both cameras
Conclusion: D40 sucks
