Collecting Rainwater From My New Shop!!

We live in a tiny house that only has rainwater collection as the primary source of water. I do not have a connection to the local water company. For electrical, we have a connection to the utility, but it is only to supplement our solar batteries. In 2023, my wife and I had a 24x30ft two car garage shop built on our property. Tight on funds, I couldn’t get a rainwater tank installed as quickly...

      @@carolsisti7203 ha you must be new here. I don’t have any specific genetics. I catch what I catch, and I house them in my boxes. Some grow to be huge great hives that are generally gentle, some end up being brutal. But in the end, no treatments of ANY sort is ever done to any of my colonies, I do not do anything for them other than “split from the best, and combine the rest”. I’m not looking for little slow moving designer bees that are like little puppy dogs. Give me some mean ass wild colonies from a tree or abandoned building. Those are my bees.

    I can’t understand why anyone would keep any genetics in their bees that are that aggressive and defensive. By keeping bad genetics, you’re creating drones with the same aggressive genes and making things more dangerous for everyone in the area. Why not pinch that queen and install one with better genetics?

    • @brownsbeefarm
      @brownsbeefarm 9 днів тому

      Better genetics? Whats better than having bees that are varroa and beetle free, make awesome brood patterns and always overwinter? People have become accustomed to bees that aren’t even mean at all anymore. These bees are smaller, faster, more similar to tropical bees, and have virtually zero problems other than acting like bees (being a little defensive). They’re the best genetics!

    Why would you keep Africanized Bees? Why not re-queen the hives? Why not use gentle hives? What if your bee kill someone near you? This makes no sense…

    • @brownsbeefarm
      @brownsbeefarm 18 днів тому

      @@seancooper7179 these are just re-homed bees from my local area. I keep them because they’re badass bees. You’ll never see a mite, they’ll never catch a disease. They overwinter in small clusters, and explode in the spring and summer. They’re smaller (if you keep them foundationless like they were when you got em) and they’re very fast. Requeening just kills off the current genetics and it becomes an entirely different hive. It’s genetically no longer the same after that. So like I might as well just kill them and get a new colony, it’s sort of the same thing. Also, finding queens in hives like this is quite the grueling task

    Your bees are definitely bad and they are definitely hot bees but they are not fully Africanized or they would be far far worse than what I'm looking at they look like they're slightly African ized but you ain't seen nothing yet kid I will tell you what! I was taught many years ago so when you had a really hot Hive like that or hives then take fresh horse manure and put a little bit in your smoker and it will create a laughing gas. I'm not sure what but I do know that it will calm the bees down to burn some fresh horse manure in the smoker along with whatever you're using. Will you use pine needles but I will tell you I'm convinced that cardboard in the smoker will also help calm the bees it is a miserable smoke. I usually use wood shavings and dried up cow pies

    Why would you not have given them a new queen changing their genetics into something different than just Africanized bees? It’s kind of irresponsible of you to know you have that type of colony, and not make sure they don’t swarm. You’re inadvertently continuing their genetics by allowing them to live. You said you have other bee keepers 25 miles away from you, and probably some even closer. You just allowing that particular colony to be other bee keepers problems as well. If your too chicken to go in and get the queen, then kill the hive, it’s not safe.

    • @brownsbeefarm
      @brownsbeefarm 3 місяці тому

      @@Grimaceschaos06 I want them, why would I kill them? They came from the wild, and did great. Now back into the wild they go. It’s just part of it around here. People come across feral colonies. A company comes and removes them. If they moved into a tree and aren’t disturbing anyone, then they’ll get to live on and thrive. But if they moved into someone’s walls then they likely were noticed, and were removed. Not worried about other beekeepers as much as I would be the people where they show up. Beekeepers out here deal with these types of colonies here and there. It’s just part of Texas bee wrangling

      @Grimaceschaos06 3 місяці тому

      @@brownsbeefarm I’m sure other bee keepers, and anyone who lives remotely by you thanks you very much for that sentiment. You dropped the ball on a very dangerous species of bees. Now they are out on the loose, and can harm or possibly kill someone, their livestock, or even their pets. You have even put the person who will collect these bees in danger, and you could have easily fixed this situation a long time ago. You never answered my second question. Why did you not try and genetically modify the bees behavior with another Queen bee? You simply allowed them to continue the genes from an even worse and more aggressive queen. It just seems a little irresponsible for a bee keeper to allow a hive like this to continue and not make sure they are contained, especially since you yourself weren’t handling them very well, as seen in your own videos.

Talk in the video cause they would have covered whatever's recording as well. So I don't think those are Africanized but they are aggressive so he should not keep them because of the genetic line.

    I had been afraid of bees all of my life, having been stung many times in my childhood. After watching videos like yours for the past several years I have grown a huge respect for bees and now find myself no longer afraid of them. But I do have a question. I have asked it before on many other beekeeper's channels that I follow, but have never received a reply. So I will ask it again. When you take the frames out and then replace them and the hive cover, how many bees get crushed? And as a beekeeper, is the loss of individual bees acceptable to the business? I know it is unavoidable due to the sheer number of bees, but it is something I have always wondered about. Thanks!

    • @brownsbeefarm
      @brownsbeefarm 4 місяці тому

      @@michaeltriglehmann55 they don’t get too smushed. You go slow and gentle with the frames, but sometimes the bees are under the edges of where the frame rests inside the box. As far as the lid goes, you can kinda twist it on in order to get the bees off as best you can before putting the full weight of the lid down. So it’s not too bad, not enough to notice a hive decline!
