Nice job. always good to have the hive working with you rather then fighting the comb.

I've done rubber band cut outs with brood. Just a suggestion, if you dont have brood in the comb, melt it down and brush onto your plastic foundation you will have straighter comb. I'm tearing out all my cut out comb and doing that.

Yeah I definitely saved the comb, and just processed a few batches of wax! The time is going to come soon where I will definitely need to re-coat my plastic foundations

I'm curious if you think feral / slightly africanized are less susceptible to stuff like mites? And are you doing something to help keep your boxes nice and shiny on the paint? I can't keep the dirt off my boxes and it makes them look ugly.
That's really nice comb you are cutting there. Awesome stuff.
And got to love rubber bands. Can't beekeep without em. And also that colony for its size was pretty calm and gentle. Not perfect but pretty good. Way better than your other recent video of the monster hive.

Your brood looked horrible in those frames is that cause the colony is over run with mites, your queen was failing or disease? Just curious sir thanks for sharing

I thought when I watched your original vid of that hive you’d end up regretting not doing a cut out at the time which is a pity because now you’ve set them back again for a period, anyway at least everything is normal in that hive again for working them.

Yeah at one point I was thinking ‘I’ll just let them do their thing and never really open the bottom boxes.’ Then the reality set in that I needed some additional bees last year so I could make queens. So in order to actually utilize that hive for splits, I decided I’d go ahead and do a cutout on them so they’d be more manageable. Unfortunately that colony was unable to last through my recent winter. But it was a good experience!

@@brownsbeefarm bugger, mice viewing anyway, watching from New Zealand so always interesting to see how it’s done elsewhere. Don’t think I could handle your mean Africanised bees though, phewee they are feisty!

Hello again, Great job on the hive. I never saw you capture the queen. Did you get the queen back in there?
Question--what does you honey taste like there in Texas? And what is your main nectar source? Is it sour, sweet, tart?
Ours here in NYC comes from Linden trees which is an incredible taste of florals and sweet.

I never ended up finding her but she seems to have been in the hive and had no issues.
Honey where I am is very dark and strong, and comes from wildflowers in the spring followed by lots of tree flowers throughout the rest of summer. My main flow is the Chinese Tallow Tree, so I consider my honey tallow honey, due to tallow honey looking so dark. It is a very strong floral honey, most people are blown away by it. Overly sweet and strong taste of flowers.
But, I had a hive 20 miles from here that was super light colored honey and was very light tasting as well. I’ve never had tart honey from Texas. It all seems to be very sweet.
Mesquite is also a big flow about 15 miles south of me

@@brownsbeefarm Oh I would love to buy a jar from you one day. I have a flow hive, so each frame of honey has different colors and different tastes which is special. But our main flow is Linden, which is sought after here for its sweet floral taste and it is medium light colored. Thanks for sharing.
