Dirtiest Condenser I've Seen Lately
YT272
This video shows when I was washing a condenser coil on a rack service call that was for a blown discharge line, that ruptured likely from running too high of pressure because of this dirty coil.
Let me know what you think about how dirty it is.
Have you seen and washed out dirtier coils?

    Is the filter/drier plugged? I've seen them start coming apart inside with age. With all the effort personally I'd throw a $20 NOS R22 txv on there. Even after the new cap tubes you're are still at a CR of 4.3, really should be under 3.

    Restricted cap tube. Also you need to nitrogen sweeping (shielding gas). Fixed meter system should not operate with much if any subcool. Superheat is based on wetbulb indoor and drybulb outdoor temp. TXV is what you pay attention to subcool on.

    • @mastertechnicianmindset2181
      @mastertechnicianmindset2181 11 днів тому

      @hvachacker586 yea, I'm familiar with the exact technicalities of the industry standards and best practices. I've worked with them for such a long time that I understand more about how the refrigerant is flowing through the circuit. Yes, wet bulb and in/out dry bulb are relevant when applying textbook precise readings, but subcool is also still relevant on a fixed metering device. Having subcool only means that liquid change has been completed. If you don't have much, or worse-if you don't have any Subcool, than you don't have a full column of liquid. If you have 0 subcool at a ground located condenser, than you for sure are boiling off on the vertical line set to the evaporator. We also charge txv systems by subcool, yes, but the TXV only serves one purpose: to maintain a preset superheat. So superheat is equally relevant on TXV systems.

    • @TofuInc
      @TofuInc 10 днів тому

      Every refrigeration system has to operate with some degree of subcooling, without it you don't get phase change in the evaporator.

      @bradmironik6137 I agree. That is one of the worst ones I've came across. What's stupid is that this machine has been warning them about this for a long time. When the scale builds up, it overamps and trips with a code 2. Probably also had the Descale light on. So, instead of getting it cleaned and acting on the Red Light, and calling for service to clean it, they just reset it. Over and over again. And when they finally did decide to call for service, if they had a good tech who recommended cleaning, the store just said, no, maybe next time. SMH, that's what they get

    No vacuum needed?

    • @mastertechnicianmindset2181
      @mastertechnicianmindset2181 22 дні тому

      @laginbro well, what kind of a vacuum? And, at the expense of what? We have to weigh the pros and cons differently as it relates to supermarket stocked cold cases where time is of major importance. On say, a 3 ton split residential circuit, where replacing a 163s drier could account for a large percentage being introduced into the circuit, possible 1%, 2%, 3% etc...(and im just making up numbers here, by the way, for the sake of the discussion), I would think that Yes , removing that two or three percent of non condensable gas out of the circuit before mixing it all up by starting it is critical and cannot be skipped. As it relates to a rack circuit, and the amount of volume inside that little piece of 3/8 pipe, In comparison with, let's just say for now, the circuit by itself, circuit 2B. We are way below 1%. Possibly below 0.1%. .But we also have to take into account that there's the rest of the rack with hundreds of pounds of refrigerant. I introduced perhaps 0.0001 non condensate volume to that rack, with huge Liquid Filter drier. I am not really willing to risk all of the food that's in that circuit, and in that case on that aisle for such a minor amount of non condensable. Maybe this approach is wrong , but it's just my way of doing it. Also, At 2 o'clock in the morning. I don't want to sit there and spend another 45 minutes pulling a vacuum. But if it was a large percentage of Jon condensable like if I was replacing an evaporator, I would never skip a vacuum

  • @bradmironik6137
    @bradmironik6137 23 дні тому

    Since you eliminated the 2 driers out of the circuit, are there means to filter the refrigerant system? Also, what size/type of brazing tip do you use? Learning thru your point of view.

    • @mastertechnicianmindset2181
      @mastertechnicianmindset2181 23 дні тому

      @bradmironik6137 yes, there is actually large liquid line Drier cores for the entire rack, that are located on the liquid line just out of the receiver. Additionally, these TXVs have serviceable screens that will catch small particles before they enter the txvs
