We love enduro and adventure motorcycles or anything that gets people outside and seeing the world including overland trucks, RV's and more. Here you will find gear, bike, and ADV setup reviews as well as videos on trucks and trailers for adventuring. In the near future, we will be doing more ultra-lightweight ADV builds on the KTM 500EXC platform and Suzuki DRZ400 platform. We will be doing an adventure tow rig/overlander build on a second-generation Toyota Tundra. Stay tuned!
Best Dirt Bike for Short Riders: KTM Freeride 250R Modified For Single Track
The 2015 KTM Freeride 250 R is an awesome and unique two-stroke dirt bike that is a hybrid between a trials bike and a full-size MX bike. It's also on the smaller side, so it's a great starting point for shorter dirt bike riders who need a lower seat height.
Sadly, in stock form, the bike doesn't run well, does not work particularly well in any particular riding scenario, and still has a seat height that is too tall for anyone under 5'6." This bike is being built for SourceADV host, Mark Jackson's, father so he can comfortably learn singletrack dirt bike riding because he is right around 5'6".
*The bike will be optimized for single-track dirt bike riding using the following parts:*
• 28MM SmartCarb

• Lowered & Revalved Suspension By EnduroSpec

• Scalvani Exhaust Pipe from Slavens Racing

• Goldentyre GT333 Rear Tire & Bridgestone M59 Front
• Tubeliss Tire System

The Morimoto XB LED headlights completely change the whole front end of the 2007-2013 second-generation Toyota Tundra for the better. Anybody make one street legal in TX?
So, how do you mod to leave the fog/driving lights on with high beams?
Not sure, still haven’t gotten around to it 😂 I think it’s called the grey wire mod
4th ain't bad! Great vid.
Thanks! Was a fun time that’s for sure!
Where is this ? It’s beautiful
Northern Arizona, starting by Cameron, you buy a permit to go west into Navajo Nation to the little Colorado river, then head north to Page, AZ
A much better look! Just added to my 2011 Tundra!
Did you try it without the reed spacer??
way to go man...is it also suitable to travel with it? sorry for the noobi question
Hey there I bought the alpharex lights a few years ago. i dont really like them because they have a zig zag line in the light of that makes sense. Do these these have a nice full flood light or a nice straight line at the top of where the light shines on the road?
You can see what it looks like while driving later in the video, take a look, not sure exactly what you mean
Έχω ένα ίδιο νομίζω ότι με εχει δύσκολέψει.το εχω 2 χρόνια.τη θα πρότεινες αλλο 150 tpi vs 250 exc κάτι εύκολο
150’s are really hard to ride, they have no torque and need to be revved a lot. I recommend the 350 four stroke to everyone now, great engine
If the KTM 500 isn't the most versatile light aggressive ADV bike, it'll do till one gets here.
Only thing close is the Kove 450
You could bring a small bottle of denatured alcohol to prime the MSR without any of the soot.
Tons of more money.
Got bike for $5k with one hour on it, sold it for $9600.
Who can afford $1,800 for headlights? Not me!
Whoa! That’s crazy they were like 40% less when I got them for this truck.
Awesome to see some actually ride and put to a use an adventure build. A lot of these tech savvy adventure builds are for Silicon Valley nerds with purely highway miles. Happy see some one putting down real miles on a solid build 👏 👏 Nice ride !
Thanks man!
You'll appreciate how it looks alot more when it's still firing up in 2050
Looks and reliability are not related.
what type TPS did you select?
so gnarly. mad props. great bike and great riding!!! 👏🏽🙌🏽
How long did it take you to get to the top? Are there areas to pull off so you aren’t stopping in the lane of traffic? Do they give you some suggested trails to check out at the rental place? I kept seeing these side by sides when I was in Sedona last year and plsnnin* to visit again in 2025 and looking to do this.
About 2.5 hours, plenty of spots to pass and lots of other places to explore and the rental places give you a map
@@SourceADV Awesome! Thank you!
@@cre8tivity06 sure thing!
Nice truck man! I am going to do the same thing to my truck and save money. Thanks for sharing!
DRZ's have a natural parasitic draw. It seems to be the dash / gauge unit
I have a 2002 DR-Z S that I've had since 2006
So this video was made 3 years ago, my question is, how well are the lights holding up? I'm searching for new headlights and I want to be sure that I'm getting a quality product before I drop so much money on them. Do they work well with an aftermarket bumper because my truck has a Road Armor. Thanks for any assitance.
Dude, I just did a 6 hour drive from Sedona to Moab last night, they are still absolutely dialed and are a life saver for my terrible eyes. The only change has been swap the fuse for the DRL to double the amperage. (5 to 10 I think). The lenses look awesome still, DRL have no bad pixels and the light power is so much better for my shittt night eyes. Would 100% buy again. The height adjustment still works great for trailering too. I’m just as shocked as anybody, these things rock
All you had to do was swap the wires on the switch and then down is off up is on.
Not on a single pole, single throw toggle. The circuit is closed or open depending on direction. In the UK where this tower is from, culturally down is on, their light switches are even down to turn on. The switch needs to be rotated but you can’t because the tower is keyed to keep the switches from rotating.
Take a look at this video: ua-cam.com/video/TX6wg2Qg7YQ/v-deo.htmlsi=YC_4p7WU3NH7okAV
@@SourceADV well I totally forgot about that. I’ve been thinking about getting the rally tower from them for my 2024500excf. It’s nice for sure. Only problem I had was which lights to get.
Honestly, I’d look at rade garage or moto minded these days, much lighter and easier to install
Nice video, looks like we got a new fuel injected DRZ on the way!
Just getting up to speed on this kit. It appears to cost about $1.2k and still requires the extensive install?
It is a hefty install, there are more options these days. The moto minded and rade garage kits are really good
I like these but it's a tossup between the 350?
If it’s more single track focused, 350 all day. I race 350 XCF, favorite bike for aggressive riding. 500 can do it, but just feels a lot heavier
The compression is very high on these and they rev to stratosphere, but are they long term durable working that hard,I'm going to get one for the plate ,nothing with a plate is as good offload currently,I need a plate, ride here in Wash State on forests and DnR land.
About to rebuild my top end at 150 hours, A class enduro and desert racing. Really have beaten the piss out of it, curious to see what it looks like inside.
My story is I'm 62 and only owned Japanese Bikes riding for 50 years always have a few dirt and street, but nothing from Japan is as light as the KTM in its class and gas gas and husky too and Beta are just lighter,I want six gears and torque down fairly low ,I want Brembo and a hydraulic clutch and Mostly not over 260 wet...The 500 has a motor I would expect to last longer as it has less compression and lower rim with longer stroke,The key to more power is the modern fueling control and these outrageous compression ratio and wide bore short strokers, on a dyno singles that rev high are not very linear sometimes worse than 2 cycle.
An uncorked 350 (exc with Get Ecu/full exhaust OR XCF race bike) is the most linear and longest powerband bike I have ever ridden, BUT it needs to be ridden aggressively. It does not have slow speed off idle chug, the high compression makes it very prone to stalling without a lot of clutch in slow speed/low RPM scenarios. A stock 500 will stall a ton too, but once they are uncorked they will chug in low rpms shockingly well for a 4T, they just don’t rev out like the 350. The 450/500 KTM motor is bulletproof, have buddies with 400+ race/race practice hours on 450 XCF without a valve adjustment or top end, not advisable but they don’t torpedo. At 150 hours the 350 does not feel as crisp, definitely needs a top end. I am religious about Funnel web filters and oil/filter changes, definitely the stress on the motor is the factor. Cheers
What is the lift on this truck and tire size?
2.5 Fr, 2” rear - 285/75-17
The tank cap extending to high like a volcano looks stupid 😅
🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ - such is life. More gas in the desert and mountains is good.
Great video(s), is the video 4 of 4 coming out?
Sorry, this is all I have, hope it helps!
Something else to consider. If you plan on keeping the bike indefinitely you should buy two sets of spare components for all the specialty parts you put on it. Companies that make them or the availability of those parts tend to disappear sometimes very quickly or unexpectedly. If you plan to ever rebuild that bike you better have those parts coded lightly with oil and sealed with desiccant. Otherwise you might find that motorcycle to be completely unrebuildable should you want to.
Fantastic explanation thanks. The supplied instructions were lacking detail. Any long term issues or improvements you made?
Cheers, nope nothing else specific take care, enjoy
Awesome thanks for info just got my 2022 tacoma used but good price on it ! Its good to find much less momney ideas tnanks for this info ps my taco is black cant wait to do this !!!

The only vehicle that I've ever bought new from a dealership. Melted yesterday in a garage fire. I'm here to mourn...
Damnnn I’m so sorry
Dude, I'm copying your build. Great job!
Thanks man! Definitely a fun bike!
I completely disagree with you, this is not a ugly truck in anyway. This truck is beautiful and reliable can't call it ugly
It’s for sale, you want it?
For sale?
No sorry
After all the upgrades and what not would you say it's almost comparible to a beta 300rr? Price wise I'd think they would be pretty similar after all said and done
Yeah probably man, I got lucky and bought that bike for $5K with 2 hours on it so that’s why it made sense to build it up.
How have you liked it? I have a Lectron and was going to buy a smart carb because the Lectron just isn’t running like it’s supposed to and there tech can’t seem to help
Takes a little playing with the clicker and finding the sweet spot, but yeah, it’s awesome and delivers. Support team is great
I find the metering rod carbs are way more sensitive to tired top ends, do a compression test on your bike and see where you are at compared to spec.
@@SourceADV fresh top end
Sweet. Yeah Smartcarb is great, you might go plus minus a couple of clicks depending on temp, humidity, or elevation but that’s just if you are really picky like me and want pure crisp
You still might have to change the chain length with 13-49, as you are 2 teeth shy of stock. The ration is closer to 3 teeth in the rear than 2.5. I am just going to add 2 teeth in the rear, and keep the 14 tooth sprocket because more teeth is easier on the chain I believe, (one more tooth sharing the load). People who are really picky about their suspension/geometry can get picky about the axle placement. But I don't think that trumps gear choices.
Oof, I’m hurt! I love the styling of the first and 2nd gen! 😂
She’s for sale if you want it :)
@@SourceADV I currently own a 2008 5.7. I’m the only owner and have 294,000 on the ODO. She doesn’t get many freeway miles these days but I love her. As tempting as a second 2nd gen sounds, I don’t have the time or extra spread for a project truck. God speed!
She’s dialed dude! 130k miles, hahaha take care
How much hp and torque added with expansion chambers...I know the stock engine has 44 bhp?
No idea, sorry, never dyno’d the bike
That is a sweet bike!
Thanks!!
OK these look super bad ass. I hope you get something like this on my truck before winter.
They are sick!!! I have shitty eyes and they help so much at night too. Cheers!
Enjoyed you build! Im sure I know why I but the newest bikes I can find. Subbed your channel . Looking forward to some more build it ride it. Around Bend Oregon on 2 wheels
Awesome build! As I get older, I'm looking at lighter and lighter bikes to ride the BDR'S! Very interested in your setup but with a 690/701! I have a 23 500 6-days but I'd like to keep that as a trails only bike with minimalistic approach! Only advice I'd like to give is to NEVER mount your 500 with the kick stand down or use it as a pivot point! Your stand will definitely snap off! Great video though!
Is it bad that my 125 sound like this bike 😭
The frequent oil changes would be too annoying for me.
They’ll go 30-40 hours in ADV style riding
How does the DRZ do on the AZ highways? I live around Cottonwood and want something that I can get out and explore but need to put down a good amount of miles of interstate to get out there. I am really looking for a lighter do it all bike that I can also bring in a toy hauler without adding too much weight, that is the only thing really holding me back from a DR650 lol.
It’s not great too be honest, the transmission is too narrow so if you gear for highway speeds, it stinks on trails. The KTM 690 or 890 is a much better option if you want to do some highway
It says tubliss but there's a tube inside 😂 ? That's not tubeless on my mtb zero tube just sealent now that's tubeless
Which slime product is that? I have some of the emergency flat tire sealant. It's got little chunks of stuff in it. I am thinking the regular slime for bikes will be better. Oh I see the blue label. After a little research, I think all the slime has little dark chunks in it
Yeah, it’s the one that’s for ATV+Moto
