  • PART 1 of 2 -- Installation -- The SmartCarb 2 (SC2) from Technology Elevated is the ultimate two stroke dirt bike carburetor for jetless fuel delivery. Similar to the Lectron, the SmartCarb uses metering rod technology and a sealed/pressurized float bowl to compensate fuel delivery for varying air densities and barometric pressures. Basically it's almost like fuel injection in practice, but a lot simpler in design. From what we can tell, the SmartCarb's proprietary venturi and sealed system make it a superior design to the Lectron, especially for single track riding. It's almost impossible to stall this bike now (GYTR flywheel weight helped too), the off idle response is incredible. It's perfect for these rocky/rooty Colorado hill climbs and technical single track. The bike's top end woke up more too (as compared to the Keihin with FMF Gnarly and JD Jetting Kit) with substantially more over-rev.
Take a look at this video to get a full understanding of the installation process on a 2019 Yamaha YZ 250X (same for YZ250 minus the reed valve spacer) and what to be aware of that is specific to the Smart Carb. Check out video 2 to go for a ride and have a full review of the carb after about 15 hours of riding.

This is an excellent video! It's very informative and thorough and we'll be sure to send future YZ customers on over for installation tips. A couple things to add: The airboot/shock spring contact is very minimal and only occurs at full extension as mentioned. The contact will only shine the rubber up a little bit - it won't wear through or cause any trouble. Removing the reed spacer is an option, though we recommend trying to keep it on if possible. If you're running a larger diameter aftermarket shock spring, spacer removal may be necessary. The contact in this case could probably be eliminated by removing the two rubber nibs on the intake flange that clock the stock carb vertical. Having them on there with the SmartCarb can and does ever so slightly tilt the carb back. Removing the nibs will allow it to tilt a little bit more forward or toward the engine which can help eliminate both the boot/spring contact and also help with the cable routing next to the frame.

Awesome vid! Very informative. I’m picking up a 2021 YZ250X this week and will be riding between 4500-10,000ft in New Mexico so this is very helpful in case I can’t get the stock carb to jet properly at my altitude ranges. Thanks!

Good video man. That was a tight fit on the hammer. Seemed to have plenty of room on the KTM/Husky bikes we have. SC2 are so smooth. Made a huge difference on our bikes that kame with Mikuni's.

Depends on how you have float level set and how far over the bike is leaning on the kickstand. With the These style of carbs the overflow can go into the engine through the jet... but you have to really really have it leaned over

Nope! It’s just the throttle position sensor that adjusts the ignition mapping, which the stock carb has too. Hope that helps!

I don't thing the fuel line will make the bend into the smart carb. It comes straight out and up from the side of the carb, so having more line to make that bend as gradual as possible was my thought. I played around with a few 90 degree elbows off the carb too and it made it so the fuel line would rub on my boot, which was a hard no.

    Hi! Greetings from Chile!
    I installed SC2 in my 2016 250x, but I don't get good results: it uses a lot of fuel/mixture. I also smoke a lot.
I have talked a lot with the Smartcarb guys through mail, but I have not achieved anything.
    Which may be?
