I stayed with friends in Colorado for a skiing vacation when I was in my early twenties One morning at about 8 o'clock one of my roomies pointed out Crosby heading into a tavern in Breckenridge saying he'll sit there and get drunk till about 10 o'clock I just couldn't believe that Drs got a new liver for him after knowing people that were refused and weren't drunkards But I guess money can buy anything including Drs

I i think he probably hated sting, not actually the police. A lot of people didn't like sting. I actually like the police, they were deff something diff, which made them interesting. They had some really nice stuff - and some real rubbish too - I think the 1st 2 albums blew the world away. After that it didn't get any better.

Kind of odd I read and heard over the years that his band mates didn't think much of him either

Im a punker ,but i love Rainbow and Deep Purple....those 2 along with Black Sabbath are the foundation of my love of heavy Rock n Roll.

My older brother was obsessed with Joni Mitchell and playd her albums incessenatly. I grew to hate that nasal voice. I'm with Lennon. Other signers did her stuff better than she did. As for the songs themselves, when compared to Dylan or Lennon, meh. Madonna is a completely different type of tradition. I am not a Madonna fan but she is from the bubblegum pop line of music making. Comparing Madonna's dance oriented material to Mitchell's superannuated, self indulgent "progressive folk" style is at best apples and oranges. If sent to hell and given the choice I'd rather be forced to listen to Madonna for eternity than Joni Mitchell.

I was already thinking one of the bands he would admire would be R.E.M. from the 1980s. I knew it! I was thinking the same thing. I didn't get Faith No More, but they were huge in the later 80s. REM was/is/will be an iconic band. One of the best of all time.

Ritchie gladly played “Paint it black” by The stones as an encore throughout the early 70’s with Purple. They are too sloppy for Ritchies taste and Jeff Beck didn’t join the stones when asked to, for similar reasons .. but mainly because he would have been bored rigid. Who wouldn’t 😀 The only band I actually heard him in an interview say he disliked was almost as successful as The Police .. AC/DC . He liked them as people though. He doesn’t like straight ahead rock but famously loves ABBA .. everyone in Rainbow did as they found out one day when one member confessed .. then they all enjoyed listening to the secret cassette he had of the band. Jon Lord recorded a song with one of ABBA’s singers. Upstaged Ritchie there!

Where is YES?? I was back stage with Alex and Geddy for the Yes Relayed tour at maple Leaf Gardens,Toronto. He Questioned if Rush would ever be that exceptional? I asked him years later at a bands , Wireless, last performance at the Knob Hill Hotel East Toronto, Scarborough. ( Geddy was engineer on their album ) " Apples & Oranges"

There are many bands and artists in rock n roll whose music we don't particularly like but we respect them for their achievments, musicianship, influence, etc. What I don't get about Blackmores comment regarding the Stones is the fact he considers them "idiots" but respects them..... I'm 56, I have never respected anyone who I thought was an idiot.

I agree with Robert Plant. FNM and R.E.M were very good bands. I wonder what he think about RHCP? They also combined rap & rock

I respect Ginger Baker's work with Cream and Blind Faith. He truly is one of the best. IMO John Bonham is the greatest drummer of all time.
