Episode 51: The term code-switching gets tossed around often, especially among folks working in spaces where few people share their identities. In this episode of "DEI in 5," I'm joined by DEI consultant and middle manager expert, Caren Young (@theprofessionaladult ) and DEI strategist & leadership coach, Clarissa "Clo" Fuselier (founder of Inclusion.Logic), as we explore the complex nature of code-switching.

    DEI ensures less qualified people. Instead of picking the best from all people, it limits choices to a smaller subset of choices to ensure race/sex representation By definition (not assumption), DEI guarantees less qualified people

    As a brown person racism by definition is the discrimination, bias, or prejudice towards someone based on there race or colour. White black or brown doesn't matter its racism. My white friends gf family are black and they were racist to him cuz he is white. And also dont air quote anti white racism cuz racism is racism. And my white friends who get shit for being white like you cant dance your food is bland and everyone is racist are all stereotypes and that is racism

    Affirmation action programs are based on the theory of a conspiracy by white males to control and subdue everyone else at everyone else’s expense but their own A 5 year old understands “that’s not how the world works” But yet 50 years later we still have emotionally compromised adults championing conspiracy theories and when you ask them for the substantive data they are all standing their holding an empty sack and making emotional appeals “because I just FEEL like”

    What about DEI hires in the Secret Service? Is that even appropriate given what the duties are? Look at the responses of the agents at the Trump incident. The one female couldn't even holster her gun. She looked like she needs to be in a weight loss program rather than protecting Trump. Both female agents looked like they were lost. Was it an estrogen related response? Lack of testosterone was making their emotions take over? These are important factors.

    It's extremely rare for people to not have access to social and other governmental services. The bent of this discussion is odd. For the vast majority of people out there, if they need help and then spend almost any energy at all in the pursuit of assistance - they will get it. Perhaps the disabled and children might find it difficult... but not healthy adults.

    I'm lucky to I have started my career in fashion and contemporary art, so I always had my natural hair out and in whatever style I felt like. I think it was more accepted and seen as creative. Now did I lose opportunities or get stereotyped? Yes and that's not fair, but I wouldn't change a thing. I have also noticed when I wore a wig from time to time that was more 3C I would get more positive feminine attention, but if I wore a big 4C Afro wig I would be called. " Militant." It's a conundrum we should not have to navigate since this is a "not our problem" situation.

    It’s sad how many of these oxygen wasters ruin companies. DEI and ESG are, at their nucleus, not conducive to high performance. Companies, government and colleges need to be more exclusive, vs more inclusive. If you cannot perform what’s required of you at the highest possible level you have no place in roles that exceed your intellectual capacity.
