    There is no AI Problem on Linux, Linux is used for AI. If AI is used on the desktop depends on the user. I guess many Linux users do not want it period.

    I dumped Mint when they dumped KDE (this decision meanwhile being reinforc&confirm-ed by their Ubuntu-dependency&quirks). Subsequently I halt&cancell-ed my switching from Win8.1Pro to Linux (KDE-Plasma). Instead, at Win8.1-EOL, contrary to longstanding intentions, I upgraded to Win10Pro (my Hw = Win11-incompatible). As things look now, when m$oft doesn't reduce Win11-Hw-req's to Win10-levels, I'll switch to MX-Linux (KDE-Plasma) at Win10-EOL, since my Hw will last me just fine much longer & I ain't ever got the budget within my ltd-pension for Hw-upgrade(s) anyhow. :_[ hYlkeW

    "what linux is going to do with npu" sounds like a nonsense question. Linux doesn't do anything with your computer, it allows you to do anything you want with it, that's what operating systems are for

    Bit of a correction, fashion mode makes the dock into a taskbar more akin to windows, not much to do with resources, just visuals. you can also expand the launcher to full screen, and you can integrate online accounts, its just hidden behind some settings

    mint is wonderful, the only downside is they don't provide KDE flavour by default. I know that you can install it yourself, but it'll so much better if it's there by default.

    There is something to be said about how many videos there are on easy to use distros or just linux in general lately. Its great to see people are moving to linux. I know these videos takes time/effort without crazy pay off but as a semi new user i still find these very interesting and informative. You sir are doing your part in contributing to the bump in linux market share. Helping new users get comfy and break that wall to learn! Thanks Jeremy! Keep it up!

    Totally agreed. When I decided to move to Linux when Microsoft was trying to force Win10 on me about 6 years ago, I tried live sticks of various distros, and Mint was the obvious choice. Ubuntu with it's screen full of giant icons, forget about it. Fedora, nope. Stuck with Mint Cinnamon ever since and still love it.

    I used Bluemail on my phone for a bit as it was one of the only email clients I had little issue with setup. However, then I started having issues with sending images in emails coming through as gobblygook, so went back to gmail on the phone. On my PCs however I use Thunderbird as my main client. This is for important stuff (like work and personal emails). I could integrate gmail if I wanted to, but for gmail I just keep a tab opened on my browser. My gmail account I only use for non-important social stuff that I generally read once then delete. I don't need to have an email client for those. The good thing about Thunderbird is how easy it is to transfer everything over from Windows to Linux just by copying your profile over (and making a full backup). Mozilla provides clear instructions on how to do this without plugins. Although after watching your video, I might give Betterbird. I didn't realise how many bugs Thunderbird had

    NPUs are new. Linux will adapt to it like any new hardware in time. Developers just need to get their hands on it i give it 6 months tops before we start seeing distros that can utilize them in ways not even windows can. Its just like a GPU. GPUs are processors designed to do certain things. We now use them for all kinds of crazy stuff from crypto mining to hyper realistic 3d simulations. NPUs are just another type of processor. Yes theyre designed to work with AI models but i garuntee thats not the only thing theyre good for. The issue with the stuff Microsoft is doing isn't the hardware its the spyware software and the fact its a evil company holding the reigns. Once open source devs start tinkering with NPUs we will get all sorts of cool uses for them. My concern with it is security. Requiring all new devices to have these things is kinda insane all it takes is 1 hardware exploit (which in something new like this is bound to show up) and every single system has a security issue to deal with. I think theyre gonna regret not taking their time with this and doing it right, but if a 0 day shows up in the hardware of these things we can probably implement a software fix like we did with that one that showed up in CPUs a few years ago.

    We kind of already have a variety of type of AI's on our system already. Most people don't realize your virus scan is like a very, very crude AI. Your TTS is a type of AI and definitely your speech dictation. These virus scans and then we'll actually need this as viruses get super powerful. We'll probably use this chip for things like that.

    From my own findings: 1. EM client for windows is my preferred client also how it works with caldav/carddav. 2. Second iOS native mail/notice/reminder/calendar apps. The interaction of 1 and 2 are without problems. 3. Kmail/Kontact, evolution and thunderbird are ok, but all have problems with caldav/carddav. The mail part is fine, though. 4. Claws, balsa and geary are ok if you don’t need DAV integration, you can export addresses that others accept. Z. The exclusion of Kmail is somewhat negligent.

    • @hermask815
      @hermask815 14 днів тому

      What’s with caldav/carddav? If you want more than one calendar, task list or address book you have to add them. This works with emclient and iOS as you expect. Create new calendar and it’s there. Evolution, Kmail/kontact and thunderbird(both windows and Linux) expect the calendar to be already there , login again and add it to the your lists.

    Leap is the solid and dependable,free business style version of OpenSUSE,Tumbleweed is the rolling release version which is pretty much like Arch but more stable than Arch. I started my Linux journey years ago with the original SUSE Linux and Mandrake Linux and boy have things changed since then. I am still using Tumbleweed without any problems as it is really stable.
