I have been using MX Linux since version 19,used Mepis back in the day as well. This is a very good Debian based distro and it is fast and stable and just works.

Very nice walk thru. I have been partial to Linux Mint for the past several months, but there was a recent update that caused it to keep freezing on my latpop. I used Tuxedo Linux for the past couple of weeks and actually liked it. I decide to see what all the hype is about for MX Linux with it being the top distro on Distrowatch for a looong time now. I just installed MX a couple of days ago and so far I like. It is very customizable and appears to be very stable after just my 2-days with it.

Man I came on here to make a comment which is almost a carbon copy of yours. I'm a looong-time user of Mint but my Mint 22 -- Beta -- started acting wonky so I just decided to look into this MX Linux while I waited for a bit more stability from Mint. I am truly impressed! Too soon to tell if it's a permanent switch but, I'm not seeing a compelling reason to hurry back Lolz. Graet Distro.

@@WayneCaissie-armatechnicos After a month on MX Linux, I am still using it. It has been very stable with no issues. At this point I have no reason to switch back. Sorry you had problems too, but I am glad that I am not the only one. Hopefully MX will work well for you too.

How does the services (daemons) are handled without System-D less Linux systems?

MX Linux makes use of the simple, light, and very configurable SysVInit. The MX devs are kind of pros at getting SysVInit to do whatever they want at this point, and their experience with this init system shows. Also, in order to maintain compatibility with some Linux packages that rely on systemd, they also make and ship a systemd shim package which massively helps with that, so compatibility 99% of the time should not be an issue whatsoever. All that said, if you'd just rather not use SysVInit, you can change it in the MX Boot Options to just boot systemd and leave it at that too.

@@arnox4554 Thank you for the answer. is Sysvinit more efficient than System-D?

@@SouthFacedWindows ... You know, my knee-jerk response is definitely yes, but in the end, I'm not quite sure. systemd, perhaps unfairly, gets a very bad rap and it still has its supporters.

SystemD is more popular these days and has replaced SysVinit that used to be what was used before. The problem that AntiX and MX Linux has with SystemD as I understand it is how SystemD has feature crept it way into other parts of Linux that they don't appreciate. As stated on the wikipedia page: "Critics of systemd contend that it suffers from mission creep and bloat".
So while SystemD in theory is the better solution for starting up the system, has more features (like taking advantage of multicore/multithreaded processors) and is easier to use for the end user, it suffers from its own success. Other distros uses other systems to start up linux like Runit and OpenRC which has gained a following as they embrace new features and isn't bloated as SystemD.
So in other words, I'd prefer if MX Linux changed to something like OpenRC or Runit 😅 but SysVinit is preferable to SystemD personally even if it is slightly slower - at least it isn't running all the time like SystemD.
