Lob wedge is the most consistent club in my bag because I bought it for $5 before I had any other clubs and I would play a par 3 course from the front tees with just that club lol. I’ll miss every shot at the green with my irons but I can flop it up near the pin with ease after

I physically can get like 90-95 out of it, but if a shot is over 70 yards I’m not using it. A 56° with a little taken off is more consistent for me than really getting after my lob wedge

Golf is an onion, as you say it is multi layered. Just peel it away one layer at a time.

More classic Tiger mind games. 😂 In his How I Play Golf book back in around 2003, he recommended spot chipping.

Just been to driving range and average today was 186 meters or 204 yards. I like to play 5500 - 5800 meter tee's or 6000 to 6300 yards. with a good approach shot can threaten the green most times. So 200 yards on the fairway is always my target. Occassionally can get 210 metres but don't rely on it. 15 handicap but just need to brush up my chipping and putting

I dumped my 3 wood about a year ago. I use my 5 wood and 3 hybrid. My 5 wood goes around 210. Yds. with a lower piercing trajectory for running up fairways. My 3 hybrid goes around 195 to 200 yds. A bit more accurate and a higher trajectory to attack greens with more stopping power than the 5 wood. Each has a job to do

I carry both but no 3 wood. I found I hit the 5 wood as far as the 3 wood but need the 3 hybrid for those times when I want to keep the ball low. I’m an old guy with a low swing speed that likes help launching the ball high.

My pw is 43 I believe, so I have a 52 and a 58. This saved buying one more club. Now that my short fame has come along nicely, I think I will be going pw plus 3 wedges next year. Pw 50 56 60

I have enjoyed watching Tiger for years, and, as a fellow older guy I interpreted him as saying "I don't ever pick a spot [anymore]." Funny how getting older we can (1) evolve, change our minds from when we were younger; OR, on the other hand, it seems people of general importance see opportunities to (2) create mythologies about themselves, especially when on camera. The latter may seem cynical but I think we see this stuff all the time.

Good basics

My Callaway pw is 41… so I have 46, 52, 56 and 60 wedge. I use my 52 for chipping and my 56 for sand and my 60 for pitching and flop shots. 46 is for 120-140 shots.

All I have is a 56° wedge. I’ve learned to do everything I need to do with just that club. As I continue to get better, I might add a 52°.

I actually average around 310 though I carried a ball 300 and the grass was wet and it stuck made a huge divot and bounced a couple feet further and the range finder and app on phone said it was carried over 302 yards Ex baseball player here ^

I'll count my blessings that I've always hit the seven iron pre-consistently 150 yards with a Big easy Ernie els type swing not trying to Overkill it. It'll go 160 if I really nail it, still, as I have been playing this first summer of retirement at 65 years old. I've lost some distance on my driver since my earlier years but I'm picking that up a bit with all that I've been playing and working on strength and technique. Hit a decent three iron today 206 yd to the front of the green on a par four, after a 220 yd drive right down the middle.

that game where they throw the ball and say they play with their feet, has so many stop starts it makes golf seem like a speed sport

lifting weights did wonders for my lenght, i went from 270 to 320 within 2 years. (i mean just take a look at bryson for example)

I can only get about 75 yards out of mine. If I try to hit it harder, it just seems to go higher, not further. However, I very rarely hit a full 60* from anywhere on the course. Typically, I use it from bunkers and from around the green. For a typical 75 yard shot, I'm more likely to play a partial SW.
