TV Shows From Our Childhoods We Loved To Watch After School
The Fly, The Blob, and The Thing are three of the greatest examples of monster movie remakes in my opinion.
You’ll get no disagreement from us there.
Cancelled all my streaming subscriptions a while back. Lost count how many times I browsed Netflix, Disney, Apple, whatever... and couldn't find anything I wanted to watch. Funny thing happened - I've pretty much lost interest in most new movies and TV shows. Just going back and filling in gaps. Also reading heaps more and getting more work done on my own stuff...
@@80sKid. All positive changes! We applaud you man.
This is so true!! I am constantly freezing when I have time to relax, surrounded by thousands of options. Thanks for the tips and great content.

The paradox of choice is a very real thing
@@ctbinary42 It absolutely is. It drains the joy out of so many things.

Got my first one in a box of pops
Did you dig for it right away... or were you one of the patient kids? LOL
Lol, when I saw the bookshelf at first I didn't realize it was stock footage and I saw SALO on the shelf and thought holy cow you have a wide, wide range of tastes going on. 😅
😆 Yeah we do like to think we have varied tastes, but that only goes so far.
Hot take. I never really liked the x-files.
We would say that’s more of a warm take. Not unheard of. 😉
According to people at Playmates, Skeleton Warriors was mainly produced and marketed towards us Hispanic folks. I'd imagine because of celebrations like Day of the Dead (Dia De Los Muertos) and an acceptance of darker topics within our communities. I bought them when they came out and was disappointed that the line was cancelled.
Maybe if the non-skeleton protagonists had been fleshed out (no pun intended) a little better, kids would have invested more into the line
I remember when new episodes of my favorite cartoons would only aire on Saturday mornings. Those were some of the most special moments of my life, I haven’t felt that type of excitement in a long time.
It is sad to think of how that brand of excitement is likely gone forever.
It was easy as a kid to maintain your entertainment choices. I sticked with what I loved (Nickelodeon, cartoons, video games, going to Blockbuster to pick out a favorite movie, watching certain sitcoms alone or with family), and not all this overload of streaming movies and TV shows to binge watch
Exactly! It was easy to know exactly what you wanted to do and when.
When I have a free time to watch a movie or play a game, I end up choosing the latter because I am a gamer. But back in my days I was also a film buff
This entertainment overload you speak of happens to me with streaming Netflix because of so many movies and shows that I want to watch but I can't pick one in the moment. There are nostalgic movies on Netflix that I want to watch again, but the reason behind that I don't really watch them is because I miss the days of physical media. I want to go back to the time of DVDs or even back to VHS cassettes. Streaming service is just not the same
It really is not the same experience, and feels a bit hollow sometimes.
Decision paralysis is a good word for it. I know exactly what you mean by the explanation. Thank You to everyone for another nostalgic episode!🤘🏻👍🏻🇺🇲
Thank YOU ZMan once again for your generosity and your support! We appreciate you!
Thanks, Zman!
For new tv shows binge watching takes the fun out of having to wait until next week to watch something. Also if you miss an episode now it's probably on that channels social media page or website
@@Jamessmith-xk3fh I agree
Did you happen to watch the TV show on HBO sopranos I think I waited 11 years or 12 years for that to be completed and the end was so strange I think they even took a year off and then they split the last season into 2 different episodes that you had to wait 2 extra years it was extremely long!
Thanks for a great, nostalgic episode as usual! This channel is great!🤘🏻👍🏻🇺🇲
So glad to have you be a part of these nostalgic journeys ZMan!
Great show Jon. I think the availability of media has (unfortunately) permanently changed how we relate to the basic choices we have. We just don't attach the significance we used to. It's like the currency has been devalued. Maybe there is a way to get the magic back. I'm going to try your movie night idea, that seems like a winner.
Let us know how your movie night plan goes!
Yes. You spend so much time figuring out WHAT you want to do that you use up all the time you had to actually DO it.
It’s a crazy thing!
Spot on analysis!
Thank you Jon!
We all got ADHD when it comes to our hobbies/interests😂 I love the chaos
It does seem like that doesn’t it? 😆
I liked Gravity Falls because it's schedule at times random, not to mention there were A LOT of fan theories about the show. That is why I like and appreciate TV shows that air one or two new episodes a week, it's something to look forward to and also talk about with friends.
Those weekly wait times fostered an anticipation that made it more worth the time!
What I've noticed about myself is how tired I get when I do go out to different brick and mortar stores, the movies, the mall, and restaurants. We love to get out and do stuff, but I'm ready to come back home so I can stream and watch UA-cam. We enjoy eating in, amazon, Ebay, books I already have. I'm 54, and that shouldn't be an excuse, but man, I am wiped out just the few hours we do go out. Especially if we go to Thrift stores, antique malls, record stores, etc...
Might be partly a result of the huge difference between the privacy of home and being out among the masses. Large social groups in one place can actually drain the energy of some folks, and they just need some time alone to recharge.
@RetroDaze I think so. It's weird how I get anxious. I never did before. Today, we went to World Market, the grocery store, a Japanese restaurant, and a thrift store. It wore me out!
@@sylviarippey6488I understand this completely. I call it my social battery, which runs down quickly lol

@@radani80s So glad you found us! The more the merrier. A room dedicated to a simpler entertainment experience is an amazing idea. We’re 100% on board with that!
Truer words have never been spoken! I have been dealing with this issue for a little while now and had come to the same conclusion. I thought it was just me!
@@musichouse- Glad we are not alone here! Really feels like a thing that can be solved with a little creative thinking.💭
"When I was a boy, we didn't have these vee-dee-oh games. We made up our own games, like chew the bark off the tree! That was the way it was and we liked it!"
Classic SNL Dana Carvey. 😆
Kind of like doomscrolling...
Feels that way!
There's another factor I never hear mentioned: slavery & obedience to time. We were all submissive & subservient to programming schedules & release dates. And most of it was effervescent as well i.e. if you missed it, you missed it. And then you were stuck waiting for a rerun, a port, a different format. It's not just that we had fewer choices, but we had fewer options of when & where to view/play it. It's not that you wanted to watch it, you HAD to watch it then & there because that might have been your only chance. And a second chance might take so long to come around that you'll have completely forgotten about it by then. So you planned around it. You scheduled around it. Your whole day or week around this one event. Somewhere to be at a specific point in time. Because there was almost something magical about it. To be there, then. A moment not under your control. Something that will happen with or without your observation. Because time waits for no one. And I think this has actually changed us as a culture as well. We've created an environment inundated in immediacy & accessibility and it's diminished our capacity to submit to something beyond ourselves, beyond a lizard brain wanting a quick hit. Time has become one less master that we serve, but the freedom has in turn created a feral state for our minds to run loose in and does not want to be wrangled.
@@i-never-look-at-replies-lol Really well put, and definitely a huge part of how we view entertainment today. It was a major deal to schedule around these events and to feel a part of it.
Wow
Its understandable. So many choices that I become stuck in just picking what to choose. At least there few things once I start. If its good I finish it. But then there books I started and put away. 2 last month I completed. though I started one about year ago lol. Strange to me. That book I feels like I started few days go...
Our time is so occupied by these choices we lose track of it!
My entertainment is watching retro daze

@@tedadamgreen Thank you Ted! Appreciate the view as always.
Lately I've been testing a time machine method, I pick a year and month and limit myself to whatever came out that month with music and movies and shows and everything else. I've also been using something in the past couple weeks I'm really digging if I have multiple options that are similar where I put them in tournament brackets like they are sports teams going head to head and see which one makes it to the end, and that's my choice. Also, I've been getting into old CDs lately. I pick random ones up from the thrift store and pop it in my car CD player and lock in to that whole album without skipping tracks as if it was a fresh new album I really wanted to experience the entirety of. Today we can flip too easily between things, which can be cool. But sometimes you have to rachet your focus down to really savor the experience of a thing.
These are all great ways to narrow your focus and better appreciate things. Thanks for sharing this. That “Time Machine” method in particular is very appealing!
Great Video! You are so right my friend, today we have way to many choices! I’m an 80’s kid and it was always a special treat to go to the video store and rent a movie and get some movie candy from the video store! I always really enjoyed being outside and riding my bike or skateboard, enjoying the simple things!
Exactly! These entertainment experiences carried a greater significance.
This is the microwave era where quantity over quality is the norm and It's mostly about getting the bag instead of taking pride in the art you create.
Unfortunately it does often feel that way these days.
Can you do a video about Rawhead Rex?
Rawhead Rex! Another good one.
I had all of these. Lol
That’s awesome! Still have any of them?
@RetroDaze Sadly no
0:40 What's this from?
Hmmm. Actually not sure! Need to ask editor Alyssa.
Battle Beats are forgotten?! Huh, I didn't realize that. I have referenced then with my coworkers from time to time, and they knew what I was taking about.
As mentioned, this list was drawn from viewer suggestions. We would say whether or not they are forgotten is probably dependent on a lot of factors for each of us.
Army Gear seems like a precursor to War Planets.
Some similarities there. Also, really miss Trendmasters. They took chances on properties that other toy companies wouldn’t at the time.
The Stompers segment reminded me of "The Animal" monster truck which had monster arms that extended from the tires! I'd totally forgotten all about that.
Ha! We’ve had a few folks mention The Animal on this one.
I would have totally watched the Sky Commanders TV series if I'd known it existed!
It was a pretty well done series but the premise was a bit hard to buy into even as a kid.
A funny thing about me was I rarely got toys, but I frequently consumed the expanded universes if comics and animated series. I read the Starriors conic (I still have the whole series) and loved the Captain Power TV show! Though am I misremembering the series ending an issue early? Either way, now you have me wondering about these Starrior mini comics that I've never read!
I also watched the Robotman special, too.
Definitely check out the mini comics. Not sure how closely they tie to the comic series.
I remember ads for pretty much all of these, but didn't have any of them. My toy collection was predominantly Star Wars until the mid-80s, and predominantly Transformers afterwards (and to this day).
Neither is a bad choice for being the predominant line of toys in a collection!
I remember Grey-Gore. I had one and my mother hated it. I am 48 now and that was a mind trip to the past. Thanks!!!!
It was our pleasure! It’s funny that there have been multiple comments from folks on parental figures and relatives disliking the Gre-Gory they had as kids. 😆
Wheeled Warriors
For monsters I would say Meg Mucklebones from the movie, Legend. Actually, Darkness and Blix could go in, as well. Such amazing makeup work.
Yeah, there are quite a few characters in that film that would fit well in this list!
I don't play Christmas music, watch nostalgic Christmas commercials, or put up my Christmas tree until Thanksgiving nights when me and my son's watch home alone like that used to are every Thanksgiving night. the Christmas season does not start until Santa crosses herald square. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday
What a fun tradition! Very nice. 🦃
