Pizza Hut literally invented "American Pizza" as we know it's flavor profile and appearance. It's not great pizza but, it's certainly real ;)
I've still got the Ring Raiders toys at my parents house, infact the Battle Blaster STILL works.
Very cool! Always nice to dig out those childhood things and be glad that you held onto them.
We had no home town pizza joints in our local big town (Dublin Ga) growing up. But we had Pizza Hut with a few arcade games in the early 80’s and it was my favorite place for any event as a kid … always my pic for a birthday party. Deep Dish was a favorite and the Personal Pan was a highlight of my youth! And we dined in as we lived too far out for delivery or to take home fresh. But as time passed, and I could drive and hang out at my two best buddies houses in town, we did get into the Dominos delivery and blockbuster rentals!! Thanks guys Love this channel and keep up the good work 👊🏻😎🕹️
@@tedadamgreen Thank you Ted! And thanks for sharing those memories with us.
As someone born on 1984 I have always considered myself an 80’s kid even though a lot of people argue that I’m more of a 90’s kid. It I feel that for xennials we resonate more with films from the 80’s (since those were the films that were more readily available on VHS first) and since 90’s films, however good were coming out as we were growing up the nostalgia (at least for me) is stronger with the 80’s
@@anthonynolastname8517 We happily embrace Xennials and those with a fond appreciation for the ‘80s to partake in any discussion on ‘80s subjects we cover. More the merrier!
Had some of the Stompers; never really cared about cars as a kid though. They are STILL being sold - though unknown if same name - I remember seeing the track sets at least as of last year, at wal-mart, in the KO/cheap chinese toy section. I had sooooo many of the Bone Age toys; definitely one of my favorites, and this video kind of made me want to go and see about purchasing them but the price tags.... ouch :D
@@Mustangman03gt Yeah, the aftermarket prices are a bit steep!
Nothing better than bagel bites and video games in the mid 2000’s at your friends place.
@@jaimecontreras6263 Can’t forget those delicious Bagel Bites!
Omgoodness I was a Pizza Hut kid. I mean literally my dad was a manger for years. I would sit in the back and make the boxes 😂 he even sponsored my little league even our uniforms said Pizza Hut 😂
@@battlehusky5812 That’s awesome! You have a rare perspective on this topic.
My 11th birthday was 1984. I don't remember any of these toys perhaps they didn't make it up to Alaska.
Perhaps. Some just weren’t on shelves long enough to get noticed, or in amounts enough to draw attention.
Pan pizza was the far better please when I started the pan pizza in 1980 a pan pizza started not looking and not tasting the same. It was basically designed after a Detroit deep dish I've been all the way to the edge of the crust edge of the pan and it was in my memory in the 80s and the memory of a friend who worked for them the the very early of the 90s they truely fucked it up after it's 10 year of success
Ahh, that’s unfortunate. Sometimes change is NOT a good thing.
I just finished the video. I Wathed the 1st half earlier now the 2nd half. I lke every comment, I share the video to people who are my age and will watch. I want this channel to be big! This is High-Quality content if your the correct age. I'm sure these a few younger people watching, probably a few older people too.
You’re the best Z Man! Really appreciate your efforts in spreading the word. The more smiles we can bring to faces, the better.
Pizza Hut was definitely the go to for take-out or eat-in fast food pizza, but when it came to frozen pizza. Ellio's was the only choice. Pop one of those bad boys in the toaster oven and you were all set for the night.
Not familiar with Ellio’s. But popping in a toaster pizza sounds good right now!
I had the green Manglor guy. He was cool for like 10 minutes. 😂
Ha! Yeah that was about how long it took to realize you’d been duped.
I remember the pizza hut baseball commercial from the ninja turtles movie in 1990!
By now the turtles and Pizza Hut are so intertwined that when you think of one you’re reminded of the other!
My mom always made a big deal of halloween. We decorated and dad put out speakers on the porch. They played a haunted house album. I think it was by disney Sll kinds of scary noises. We always put a big bucket of candy on the porch since we were always gone trick or treating. I bet the first group to come along got the whole thing😂
Yeah it’s not wise to assume kids are good at the honor system way of trick-or-treating. 😆
Such a fun idea! It captures the feels of being a kid in the summertime before school starts. I would do a lot of these activities, and add making soda floats too. I would love to see a 1990s sleepover video, if you can!
That’s awesome Tyneisha! Glad you enjoyed it. And thank you for the suggestion!
Well it would be Domino's Pizza (It's a 2 block walk from my house properly go with a Meatzza Lover's Pizza. And since it is close to Sppoky Season, probably the Gate or a Nightmare on Elm Street. Watching Svengooglie spoofing on Dead of Night(1977) right now!
@@Rob-rx3jw You, sir, are doing it RIGHT!
@@RetroDaze My kind appreciation good sir!
I just ordered a personal pan pizza. 🍕
@@GodzillinLkeAVillain Talk about great timing! So… you gonna share then? 😆 🍕
In this small town growing up we had a Pisanello's. They had this huge rack in the middle of a walkway with all these DVDs to rent movies. They had an ice chest of frozen treats like SpongeBob pops, and for a short time they did soft serve. Of course they closed in like 2013 or so and they were the only people that would deliver to my grandmother's house being in the country between counties. I miss Pizzanello's, the closest one is a too far to drive for pizza.
@@AidanCaDrago Wait… a pizza place that rented movies!? You serious? That place should be a historical landmark right now!
yeah the Pizza Hut/TMNT combo was definitely iconic! It even extended into the videogame both in the arcade and on NES! (heck if memory serves some of the newer games based on that epic arcade version managed to bring back the pizza hut coupon to some extent!!) funny enough our last pizza and a movie night was just the other day! a chain we got here recently called marco's and studio ghibli's latest film just dropped on max, the boy and the heron! (maybe not a retro pick per se but ghibli does have a storied history of great animated films going back to the 80s) so got us a large pepperoni and sausage and half with veggies and stuff for the wife) and had us a fun night.
@@darktetsuya That is awesome! And we can appreciate a good Studio Ghibli film as much as anyone. Well done. 👍🏻
Spent so many hours building with constructs.
@@davidbelanger7278 There was just so much you could do with them. Endless cool things to build.
If I was going to bring a pizza home for movie night, it would be Pizza Hut. If I was going to hang out with friends, it would be Peter Piper Pizza; basically Chuck E Cheese w/o the animatronics. If I wanted to go to a real restaurant, it would have been a local place called Red Devil.
@@ReconViper1 Peter Piper Pizza sounds cool! They have arcade games too?
@@RetroDaze It did. It was equal parts pizza place and arcade. I spent way too much time (and too many quarters) there.
Star com had the best toys
@@matthewmattson7584 It was an underrated toy line for sure.
I grew up out in the middle of nowhere. Going to Pizza Hut meant driving at least half an hour to get there. We didn't get a VCR until 1986 when I was in college and the video rental store was also a trip, so maybe that's why I don't know this experience. But---going to Pizza Hut back then was always great because of the sit down style. It's the kind of place you would go on a Sunday afternoon, or stop by after going to the nearby mall. Getting Domino's delivery was out of the question because by the time they finally had one in the same town that had the Pizza Hut, we were still too far away for them to deliver. But ironically, that Domino's is located in the same building where there had been a Blockbuster Video.
@@gildersleevefan67 That is some bitter irony. If nothing else, that longer drive probably made those rare trips to Pizza Hut that much more memorable.
Pizza has been my favorite food my whole life, so I've had all of these many times. Though I'm vegan now, so I haven't had them in a few years. Some, if not all, of these chains have vegan cheese in the UK, but unfortunately not in the US. When I was a kid, I would enjoy going to Pizza Hut. What really stands out in my mind is the personal pan pizzas I would get with the Book It program, and also The Land Before Time and Casper hand puppets. Those were great. For delivery I always liked Little Caesars. But then Papa John's opened, and to me it was god tier and all I ever wanted from that point on. Throughout my life it's been a common thing to get a pizza for movie night, so none really stick out in my mind. Thinking of an ideal pizza/movie night though, I would choose Back to the Future or Ghostbusters. As for frozen pizza, up until a few years ago that was half of my diet. I've had all the main brands. My favorites were Tombstone, Red Baron, and Totino's.
@@JoylessPumpkin You’ve covered all the best of both fast food and frozen! Great picks for the movie too. Perfect combo. 🍕 🎥
As a kid, I loved Little Caesar's. Now... I view them as the "McDonald's" of pizza places (which is not a good thing). Pizza Hut and Domino's are my favorites.
@@MOTU_CTR Little Caesar’s was a great choice for keeping on a budget. Still is, but yeah… the flavor can’t match the other two.
@RetroDaze Also, I remember one of the pizza places (can't remember which) gave you Cherry KoolAid packets with the pizza. So now in my head, KoolAid is synonymous with pizza and a movie. But only cherry flavor. 😅
@@MOTU_CTR😂 That’s a great idea too. Kool Aid was cheap, but it still felt like you got a nice bonus drink.
When I was growing up, we had a local pizza place called Marco's. The one we went to was the first. It has now grown to several hundred pizzarias and would be considered "fast food" I guess. When I was doing my MS, we had "Arnold Fest", where we watched ever Arnold movie that had been released up to that point. We had a constant stream of pizza coming to (and a lot of beer). One of the places had a 20" pizza, and it was glorious!
Sounds like a very “college” pizza and movie experience. Nice! Need to look up this Marco’s.
For me, it's a regional chain called Mazzio's. They used to be called Ken's, but circumstances caused a name change. They're all over where I live, more locations than Domino's and Pizza Hut combined. For chain pizza, they're awesome. But, we also have a badASS local Chicago style joint that makes the best pie you ever did eat. That's my go to when I'm really craving.
Best of both worlds all within your own area. You can’t beat that!
Always loved Pizza Hut as a kid. They had the tables with arcade games in them.
That was a huge draw for us as youngsters.
Jon I agree with you! Pizza Hut in the 80’s and 90’s was the best pizza for pizza and movie 🎥 night! Pizza Hut also had the best fountain drinks as well! Yeah you can’t walk into the local movie rental store and pick out your favorite VHS movie anymore, but you can walk into your local antique shop or flee market and pick out a cool vintage VHS tape and pop it into your still working VCR (Like mine) and relive those nostalgic Pizza and Movie Nights! Great Video!
@@cowboydiecastracing That’s a great idea! Close as we’ll ever get to recreating the experience.
This definitely brought me a back and I thought about having pizza for dinner but I got something else. Pizza Hut was definitely the number one place growing up. There was a Pac-Man arcade. There was Broken Wings playing on the jukebox..... There was the Bookit program. And the buffet which is rare to find nowadays at a Pizza Hut at least near me. The red cups and the chandeliers with stained glass that said Pizza Hut sealed the deal.
@@redmist78 Pizza Hut is definitely the place with all the memorable elements that remind us of childhood. Everything you mentioned is part of that list of nostalgic elements.
I forgot about the Noid? How, I HAVE NO IDEA! Thanks to everyone who helped create this masterpiece down memory lane. "Remembering yesteryear" HALLOWEEN IS COMING SOON! My B-Day is in October, maybe thats why Halloween is always in my memory as one of my favorites.

@@pickle4474 Likewise. I greatly regret the garage sale in which I sold most of my MOTU guys.
For me, the pizza parlor nostalgia is also closely tied to pumping an 80s pre-teen’s idea of a small fortune in quarters into video games.
@@rutherfordappraisal258 That does make good sense. So many instances of pizza and games were present in our youth, particularly Chuck E. Cheese and Showbiz Pizza!
i liked all 3 pizza places as a kid because we ordered from them all so no one pizza company was better. as for movies and video game rentals we rented from a store called pharmore. when i was teenager like 16 or 17 i mainly eat papa john's pizza and rented from blockbuster or hollywood video until they were gone.
Which of those two scenarios do you remember more fondly?
@@RetroDaze i remember them both fondly actually because they are tied to people i still now to this day especially the papa john one.
@@ViciouspikedThat’s awesome. Thank you for sharing the memories!
Pizza has gotten so expensive that I now buy frozen bread dough and make my own. It's cheaper and better but doesn't have the same nostalgic kick, so I think I need to lower the quality of my ingredients, lol. I stumbled into making a sauce that tasted almost identical to Pizza Hut's by adding sun-dried tomato paste, so I'm getting there.
Ooh. Do share! 😋
We didn't have any fast food pizza places in the town where I grew up so most often we would get frozen. Our brand of choice was Red Baron.
A good choice, but not Tony’s! 😆
Fast food pizza & a movie is an awesome idea! It's been raining all week where i live. There's several pizza places near me such as Domino's, Pizza Hut, Little Caesar's, and others. Frozen pizza is good in a pitch i think, especially when you want pizza like right now. I like Sausage and pepperoni pizza. Movies picks would be the ones you mentioned in this video, along with some anime series and cartoons. Popcorn/candy, or maybe an ice cream sundae for dessert.
Ice cream is a great addition!
Great stuff! And, a good time to call in an order and rent a streaming flick.
Growing up we had a mom and pop pizza place less than a block away so we didn't really have fast food pizza on movie night. We did eat in at some and the only one I remember liking was Pizza Hut. I don't know if it was the advertising or what but they were the only fast food ones I enjoyed. For frozen it was Mama Celeste 😁 and I agree with writer Tony that fast food pizza isn't real pizza
@@ctbinary42 Fast food pizza is really kind of its own thing. Almost feels wrong to lump it in with other pizza. 🍕
I like fast food pizza...a lot! I remember being out of school for the holidays and going Christmas shopping with my family in Longview TX, then going to Pizza Inn for the buffet! It's the first time I remember eating until I couldn't eat another bite! I made myself sick! I must have been 9 or 10! I remember eating frozen pizza and watching bootleg movies at a buddy's house in high school. He had a room with floor to ceiling shelves on two sides. Good times!
Oh wow! We’d have been at that dude’s house every week! 😆
Before the internet UA-cam smartphones and iPhones back in the day whenever I would get my paycheck every 2 weeks during night time I will go to my local video rental store and rent movies and then I would call to order pizza from my local pizza joint in my hometown where I'm from and those were the good old Glory Old Skool days from back then when we had local phone books with yellow pages and newspapers in order to order pizza👍🏼 📼🍕😋
Yes! It’s crazy how memorable an experience that was, just some delivery pizza and movie rentals.
I remember how much trouble dominos got into in the 80s/90s for delivery pizza within 30 minutes of placing the order- drivers would speed/cause accidents run stop signs ect.
You would think that would have been in their minds when creating the promotion. 😆
I was a big fan of Round Table, though they have fallen out of favor. I grew up in the Silicon Valley, and I also loved Mountain Mike's Pizza, even though there was an urban legend that it was named after a cannibal. I say urban legend because I did a search on this and came up with nothing, so I assume it was something snotty kids made up to be gross.
What? Kids making up urban legends to tell their friends? Never. 😆
@@RetroDaze It's really weird, I did a web search and got nothing on Mountain Mike's being named after a cannibal Either I am mixing it up with another pizza place, or this is a Mandela Effect
@@Robalini1Mountain Mike scrubbed the net of his existence. He has that power.
I think birthday party at mcdonalds during the 80s is worth its own video
We’ve all seemingly had at least one there!
Digiorno pizza is fake pizza.
“If it’s not delivery, it’s fake.” 😆
Pizza hut: book club and the puzzles on pizza hut menus
Right! The little puzzles. 🧩
Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut is still good and the few times a year I eat it always reminds me being a kid again going to birthday parties there and Ninja Turtles because of all the promotions they had for the movies and Arcade N.E.S Game.
Turtles and Pizza Hut are basically synonymous, which is funny considering Dominos was the original brand in the first film.
My go to pizza joints are Domino's, Pizza Hut and occasionally Papa John's. (I do not like Hungry Howie's. 🤢🤮) As for what movie I would watch while eating pizza, either Back to the Future or the 1990 live action TMNT movie.
All perfect combinations!
The dope thing about Hungry Howies is the different flavored crusts but the pizza is mid.
Hungry Howie's is the bomb!!
Lenny`s in Bensonhurst was actually lousy!! I lived a few blocks away for years. Oh yeah... That`s the slice Travolta was eating.
@@GCMadej Oh so that was Lenny’s in the film? Cool!
@@RetroDaze Yup! Travolta was there a few years ago with the cameras rolling. They redid the scene. Lenny`s closed not too long after lol
I grew up in Bensonhurst too, but never went to Lenny's. Our favorite "special" pie was the white pizza from Totonno's. There was a place near there we'd get amazing lemon Italian ice too.
@@AnthonyJRapino I went to the original La Bella on 21st. Not the one at Bay Parkway. Much better!
Starcom are great quality toys
Yes they were! They were fun and well made too!
