i appreciate that this video is posted at a time when i went to school would still be summer vacation. I've been driving kids to school on my school bus for that past 2 weeks! I personally never was upset using the paper bag book covers, i enjoyed customizing my book covers with my favorite band logos.
I loved back to school shopping! I typically didn't get new clothes- those came at Christmas- but I had a strange affection for brand new notebooks, pens, and those big packs of colored pencils ❤ still have, actually😂
I was great at school and enjoyed it a lot but HATED back to school because it meant I didn’t meet any of my aspiring Summer Hopes. So I’ll say this about this fantastic video … we have to take the bad memories with the good ones, and back to school time was definitely in the bad memories section, nothing even against the shopping and new clothes. Have a great weekend Jon and Team! 👊🏻😎🕹️
My 23 year old son was with me at Target. He looked at the school supplies and said "Thank God those days are over!" I agree with him 💯 I love Izod Lacoste (now just Lacoste) I've been wearing their shirts since I was 13. I'm 54 now and have Lacoste shirts, shorts, purses, socks, shoes, perfume, even underwear Lacoste. 😂 I still love the little alligator on the shirts. 😊
My husband would like to say "blue light special, aisle 15", or something like that when we were walking in Walmart. He had a deep voice so it resonated. It would always get people's heads to turn. I miss that about him, he passed away a couple years ago.
I hated back to school shopping. My school had uniforms so clothes shopping wasnt a thing. But I wanted to get folders and notebooks with cool designs or characters on them. You had to have a Mead Trapper Keeper and a Spacemaker box or you weren't cool enough. I always had to have college ruled notebooks and was very particular about my assignment books and my bookbag. The bookbag had to have outside pouches, space for a water bottle, the works. I remember getting stretchy elastic book covers, but they werent as easy to draw on. I remember gel pens being very popular too
This shows my age but KEDS were it! Red Dot KEDS Makes You Run Faster Jump Higher! My lunch box was Family Affair all metal with glass thermos. 😱 we didn’t carry backpacks we carried books.
My shoe of choice was either K-Swiss or Addidas and I used to sport allot of OP shirts (Ocean Pacific), Girbeau and Ginnera (sp) along with of course Polo shirts. Lets not forget the Z-Cavvaricci 😀
Living where winter is a thing, the plastic lunch boxes were terrible. If they got hit or dropped when it was below freezing, almost guaranteed to take damage.
I was always a huge Nike fan from Air Max to Air Tech Challenge 2’s from Andre Agassi to Air Jordans. I had the Reebok Pump Omni Lites and I still have the original box. I eventually got Air Jordan 7’s in the Bordeaux colorway and I still have the original box from those too. I enjoyed getting new clothes and some school supplies, but the novelty of the new supplies wore off by the time I was back in the classroom 😂
I had that same Hugga Bunch lunchbox shown at 10:40! I sold it on eBay for literally a couple bucks about a decade or so ago. Kinda wish I'd kept it...
The worst part of back to school shopping was when your mom wanted the cheap folders, notebooks, or crayons, but they were sold out. Then her penny pinching went into overdrive, screwing you out of some cool item you were going to beg for.
I'm a little older, being a 70's middle schooler, but I think the biggest generational change was shoes. When it cane to shirts, sure you wanted pop stuff, and everyone wanted jeans even though about half of the parents then were for some reason COMPLETELY anti-jeans and flatly refused to buy them. However shoes? Honestly no one cared, at least not boys. You hated new shoes because they were stiff and more often than not didn't fit quite right, but as for brands? No one cared. EVERYONE went to Payless and we all pretty much got the same "boy shoes." In fact it was considered "girly" to care about your shoes and if you displayed such abhorrent behavior other boys would make it their mission to stomp and scuff your new shoes at every opportunity.
The entire "super shoes" thing was invented by marketing guys around 1980 working for Nike, Reebok, etc, who all decided they weren't making enough bank selling shoes for school sports, so they pushed this whole artificial "shoe culture" on kids with blitz marketing to convince them regular shoes were "uncool". It certainly worked beyond anything they ever dreamed once they started hocking $300 sports shoes to every kid instead of just kids who needed them. The best part was(is) in 6 months when they outgrow them, parents will have to buy _another_ pair of sport shoes. Biggest scam in kids clothes history.
In my school, most of us didn't have money. We made our own book covers with brown paper bags, and we enjoyed decorating our own as well as adding our mark on our friends' book covers. One time I drew a little picture on the inside of a friend's cover and dated it; she didn't realize it was there until the end of the school year! (Surprise!) What fun!
The day I got my Lion King lunch box it was the greatest trip to Walmart we ever had 😅 Yeah I was about four maybe five. You can keep your arcades and scrunchies. NAAAWWWWWW win YAAAAA
@@isaacheres1354 It was a depressing yet also exciting thing… going back to school. Seeing friends again every day, at the expense of school work and teachers. 😆
i was born in 1972 & grew up in the 80's. i hated to go school shopping. my mom dragged me to go shopping at k-mart on her days off during the summer. i found boring as hell as a kid. after i graduated. i do pick on my mom about school shopping. when it comes to that time of year.
If I remember correctly, I believe I owned a plastic lunch box for Gargoyles. I also used to own a regular plastic lunch box from igloo. By the way, who's Vampire Robot? Do they have a UA-cam channel? If so, can you please send me a link? Thank you in advance!

I loved going back to school. I loved the summer, but I also loved to learn
Back to school shopping was bittersweet for me! I didn’t want summer to end, but I did get joy out of new shoes and notebooks!

1:50 you forgot actually going outside and playing with friends. Something people don’t do anymore.

I was a Bugle Boy! Loved that style. Unitl middle school when I would shop at a store called Utopia for all my Metal band shirts!
What were your preferred bands?
Reebok pump's bought my own at 15 when working as a carryout bag boy
XJ900 😂 I remember those. Anyone remember Skidz pants?
If you got a pack of smelly markers when back to school shopping, you had hit the jackpot.
Went to my private, Catholic skool but, still went shoppin for Swatch watches, Mead 5 $tar, British Knights shoes, Jansport bookbags, Coke/Pepsi letterman sweaters, Filas & Lottos sneakers, bomber goosedown winter coats, Kangol, walkman, smelly pens, sports, etc. 4 dis 1980's baby!!!😉😇🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽🌃🌃🌃🌃🌃🌉🌉🌉🌉🌉😼🇺🇲

I have 3 older brothers, and I am STILL wearing their hand me-downs.

Yes! It’s insane just how much we started to care about footwear!

Lunch boxes I remember: Kung Fu, Evel Knievel, and Happy Days. I’m OGenX.

I miss Payless and Kmart
As do we!
Truth. I had bobo azz shoes til I started making my own money!
Funny how much importance we placed on shoes in the ‘90s. 😆

Too much 90’s in your videos.
We try to keep a balance, with almost all videos having some or all ‘80s focus.
