The (first) Open Light Seal for the Apple Vision Pro
I'm addicted to Open Interfaces for my virtual reality devices. In this video, I'm experimenting with an Open Interface for the Apple Vision Pro by customizing the default Light Seal. I'll be removing the fabric from the Apple Vision Pro Face Seal to see how it impacts the improved FOV and peripheral vision.

Will Tesla's Cybercab "Shepherd" Make Money?

At Tesla's recent robotaxi event, there was mention of a "shepherd role" or a person who could manage a small fleet of these vehicles. From my perspective, it seems like Elon/Tesla is using this concept as a way to offset and sell many of these vehicles early on. I think in the beginning, these vehicles are likely to be profitable because there will be such high demand for this new tool. But ov...

Should you learn Stenography?

After a few months of practicing Steno, I've familiarized myself enough with it that I think I'm able to speak to the base level pros and cons of the typing format. Hopefully this breakdown is beneficial for anyone first digging into the steno space. One day, when I retire to write novels, I'll dig out my Uni steno board and become the very best.

I just use the two rubber cushions atop each other without the light seal, adding 13° to the horizontal (up from 100°) and 6° to the vertical (up from 77°). Another option is the Air Cover 2.0 with its light blockers.
@@BXR_Archives so you rest it on your nose then?
@@JarrenRocks I use the solo knit band to tighten it against my face. It rests on my nose somewhat, but I don't feel the weight much. I may get the SoloTop clips to add an additional solo knit band, but the weight hasn't bothered me in the two weeks since I got the AVP. I paid $2578 ($2,790.78 after 8.25% sales tax) for a 1TB model with the official case and battery clip plus AppleCare+, and the 21W bands and light seal just happened to exactly match my Apple Store fitting.
Yea yea... try to write code... automation everythink... for faster live _)) Haskell and C/C++ will help _))
while this stuff is mildly interesting, it should never be developed to the extent that it can replace game developers

How do I turn off caps? I also don't know where to find out things like symbols and how to fingel spell in lower case.
I believe Plover has a legend that shows the key combinations. They also have a discord you could use to ask questions!
Not the best idea Ive seen I must admit. Was interesting to see the inside and how they standardized different face shapes with simple techniques.
It was better than letting it gather dust haha But I do mention in my pinned comment I don’t necessarily recommend this for people.
Hi Jarren, have you tried the Viture Pro XR glasses? It seems like what you might be looking for.
@@manthony6594 I have actually, and they’re impressive for the size, but are little more than an external display for another device.

@@ml1186 I have another video on my channel called should you learn stenography that will answer any questions
When he is talking about coherence, it makes me think of how this could be a demonstration of how sleep dreams work. When sleeping, perhaps part of what makes dreams so surreal is that the function of transitioning short-term memory to long-term memory is inhibited, resulting in things changing in our dreams as they come in and out of our frame of reference, similar to how this AI is functioning with field of view. That also tracks with why we have a difficult time remembering dreams, because our ability to move them from short-term to long-term is restricted.
You should check out immersed for productivity. It has much more flexibility for multiple virtual monitors
I just want it for internet as well. When I first used pass through and had the browser windows open I was amazed. Someday they'll get it i hope. In the meantime I have given up and I'm just waiting.
New subscriber, looking forward to AVP content like this. Thanks!
Glad to have you! I’ll have more like this along very soon.

Love this Jarren. We think alike. Really looking forward to your comparisons of through the lens visuals and immersive experiences between Quest 3 and AVP.
BTW, also looking forward to hearing your impressions of using the Solo knit band on the Quest 3!
Yeah., I have a few interesting takeaways there. Surprisingly, there are a few times where I prefer the Quest III over the Apple Vision Pro. And will have a video about the Solo band on the Q3 soon!
@@JarrenRocks Awesome. It will be great to hear your thoughts on AVP vs MQ3 and how well AVP band works on MQ3. I've done a couple in store demos of AVP and came away impressed but other than obvious diffs, hard to compare without viewing same source material in each headset. I think MQ3 with latest v71 update has to be very close except for lacking the amazing Apple TV+ immersive experiences.
you can connect a blutooth keyboard and mouse to the quest
@@HiHi-of8nd I’ll be testing that for sure.
Walking into the snow was the most trippy, because it thinks snow is clouds and vice versa sometimes so when looking at the snow below me the new ground was actually above me since it thought I was looking at clouds, and then I was basically standing on top of a mountian with some corrupted snow landscape under my feet. Also it's possible to reach the Nether when looking at pitch black surfaces and opening the crafting menu a few times
Wow, open design would be a dream for AVP. Thank you for going that forward with this
@@raden9ka totally agreed! It was an interesting experiment, and now I have one of both depending on what I prefer to use.
NGL, your rant about window management made me realize that I actually really appreciate having the settings take up an entire screen. Sorry. 😳
That’s fair. I don’t mind that settings take up the entire screen. It’s just that they shouldn’t disrespect the layout of my other windows when doing so.
I'm curious, what's up with the 15 fps footage?
I record everything through multiple camera streams in OBS and I think something to do with the recording structure. CPU usage or export settings was messing it up. I’ll have to keep experimenting, but I think I figured it out in my most recent video. A few people noticed it.
This is kinda how I actually dream. Its so odd seeing it reproduced. I commonly experience voxel worlds that are fixed space that I can bend, phase and fly through to get around.
I was just thinking you should use some fabric scissors when you started out using a box cutter 😂 glad you switched to some instead of struggling with the knife 😆
oh btw i borrowed the fabric scissors 🫣

at this rate, in 1 month I'll have the Apple XRay Vision
@ soon as it hits FB marketplace I’ll get one as well 😅
@@BarelyAverageDude I'm pretty close to SF so it makes new apple products cheap fast, give it a bit and prices will drop. Honestly real value of this product + utility is probably around $1500 IMO.
@ I’m actually in SF 😅 But yeah I’m waiting for Vision Pro to hit like $1.5k before I try it out. If it could run more pro apps internally I would have gotten one. I Love VR and use Mac primarily so in theory it was perfect for me, but it just doesn’t do enough to justify the price. I already spent $3500 on a MacBook Pro 🤷🏽♂️😅
@@BarelyAverageDude That's wild! I'm looking for a place there in January. Located near Sacramento at the moment. I found this one for $1900 and offered $1700 which was accepted.
A few other notes: 1. Dark plastics are used to keep reflections down, that's why it's not white plastic. 2. Far more reflections from environment while using, but it's very easy to forget about. 3. I feel marginally more connected to my environment, maybe by 10% (vs the quest 3 open interface ~+30%) In conclusion, I’d not recommend doing this, it’s not increasing visibility “that” much. A product designed specifically for this would be better.
Crazy good video. Instant subscribe

What if we train the ai to turn real life footage into game play
the thing i found the most interesting is that if you are in a dark place and you right-click the ground with your pickaxe in hand, it will place down a torch. it's like it doesn't know what a torch actually is, but it knows that people usually place torches when it's dark.
We got A.I. Minecraft before GTA6.
The beginning of the end for gaming.
Great video, I'd love to use the Quest native Remote desktop app more, and workrooms more. My biggest gripe with the native software is the latency. I can't for the life of me figure out how to make my desktop run smooth using either of the Meta remote desktop software. Its just not sufficient for anything other than very basic viewing, typing etc. I work with motiondesign, sometimes graphic design and the Quest 3 has been a great tool for spicing up the home office. My preferred go-to is Virtual Desktop, the pc or laptop has to be connected via ethernet cable and i make sure to stay within wifi 6 range. The response and latency is very good. Howeeeveeeer virtual desktop can tend to drift or reorient its windows. Sometimes it does sometimes it doesnt. You make a good point is the consistency, thats my main gripe with that app. I dont know how many times I've spent reorienting my screens after a short bathroom break/coffe etc. About crossover compatability, you can use a webbased chrome remote desktop app in one window , connect keyboard and mouse via Bluetooth directly to quest. The you can go between windows, also copy text from meta window to chrome remote desktop window. Really cool stuff.
+1 on the latency, even when I'm close to the router it drops and skips frames. I'll have to try out the remote desktop options, that sounds great.
If you use immersed you can use a USB mode which greatly improves latency.
minecraft on edibles
I'm pleasantly surprised by how much i can use the Q3 already for productivity. For me the best feature is using it standalone as a spatial android device. I can run a number of Apps i use for work natively on the Quest and have one remote desktop window for anything else. One of the limiting factors you just touched on is having a nice standalone bluetooth keyboard with a good trackpad. Any model i found so far is lacking a good mouse pointing device, so now i'm considering building a keyboard with a thinkpad style trackpoint to be able to work in small spaces with full keyboard and mouse capability. Either that or some kind of mouse(joystick/trackpoint device thats small and attaches to my hand in a way i can still type with, but i think thats too much effort before the next gen will have eye tracking, probably.
I really should explore toe android apps more. I use notion heavily, but all of their apps except their desktop website work poorly. I have a video where I dive deep into a keyboard alternative, but it requires macOS software, so I feel stuck when using other operating systems.
@@JarrenRocks yeah i saw that video, that was interesting too. i recommend sideloading the aurora store apk on the quest, it's basically an open source client for the play store that makes the quest 3 act like a regular phone and let it download regular apps. some dont work because of lacking google play services on the device though.
Is it bigger than Apple MagSafe battery (lengthwise)?
I don’t have one to compare it to, you’d have to look at the measurements, but I think it is larger, yes.
I came to the realization that since you’re able to upload a screenshot to play, you can feed back a frame from what you just played (you can download the video). Meaning, you can feed the last frame of your previous session, and continue what you were just playing. Almost like falling back asleep to continue a dream you liked
This will kill people
Hey as for using the quest local interface a remote client session, have you tried using parsec or remote desktop from google in the browser window with blue tooth mouse and keybaord connectec to your quest?
@@ChuckAsum I haven’t, I’m always using a local device with a mouse and keyboard connected directly to that device. I will very likely test using a mouse and keyboard connected to the quest itself in a future video if that’s of interest. I could try a remote session then.
This is a REALLY good visualization of an acid trip. Like, really good. There's something more here; even if it's literally minecraft.
Minecraft lsd simulator
I had to like and subscribe while watching this video. I bought the quest 2 in 2021, enjoyed it for a few months but productivity/passthrough was so janky. Enjoyed gaming for a bit but not a big gamer so it sat collecting dust till two weeks ago when I turned it on again and discovered how much better the platform is. Bought a quest 3 immediately and am now loving using it in passthrough. Like you I'm here more for AR than VR. Immersed, VD and Workrooms all have their strengths but Workrooms still seems to be the best of the bunch. Horizon is still quite buggy, but I'm hoping they continue to refine it. I also hope they improve the browser. The desktop mode is finnicky, and it's so annoying that the pdf reader extension doesn't work. Thanks for this fantastic video.
Thank you! And I will take a look at Immersed, and Workrooms as well. The OS will absolutely continue to improve, I think it’s this odd challenge of “how much do we refine a complex UI/UX on a less than profitable industry?” All I know for sure, is that productivity in AR/VR will get better and better.
Absolutely useless unless you show how to get it apart. Defo no screws anywhere and a sharp screwdriver just chews it up.
@@lesparsons2813 I have a comment addressing that exact issue from five years ago, hopefully that helps.
12:50 they want 100% AI generated game no hardcoded UI . Imagine that , “play Pokémon” and it just starts the game with no code.
My biggest issue is requiring a boundary when you're in pass through mode. This is just stupid, the whole point of having a boundary is to keep you from bumping into things when you can't see. If you CAN see, what's the point of requiring a boundary?
Completely agree. They should do away with boundaries unless you go to full immersive, and even then, it should automatically do it and just give you the option to modify it later.
Can you get the program to hallucinate some blocks into a horse you are riding?
I love the Quest 3 for productivity! For your primarily AR focused use case you should check out the Visor from Immersed.
The hardware looks awesome, but pretty far from production. I'm eager to see smaller headsets that do real tracking.
@JarrenRocks they should be shipping the first units in January with mass production ramping up for summer 2025 delivery. Obviously not an immediate solution, but something to keep you eye on. I'm excited to have 4K OLED per-eye with eye and hand tracking. Productivity is going to be next level! 😅Not sponsored, just like VR/AR
@ I really appreciate the comments honestly, you’re right at home here. I’m super passionate about the space too, so I’ll definitely be on the lookout!
